The OP's question:
what do you think Thai people think about the westerners living in Pattaya?
My answer:
Most Thais, but not all, seem to be unable to distinquish the decent westerners from the dross.

Not quite sure what kind of non snarky help you want.Your friend is working here without a work permit and is breaking the law. Any input from posters here that in anyway condones what she is doing is merely aiding and abetting her law breaking.
If an alien was breaking the law in your home country what would be your attitude then?

Seems to me that many of these owners of football clubs are fairly brainless. We have new owners at Liverpool, who seem to know nothing about the game and hopefully they will soon be persuaded to be rid of their current useless manager who ought to have been sacked already. Now we have one of the owners of QPR saying he wants to replace the current manager who has done brilliantly.
-Seems to be many of the fans/supporters of these clubs know more about football then the owners!

The other week or so I got caught in the rain going to Pattaya Immigration to do the routine 90 day reporting.Just out of my curiosity, could I send an agent to immigration to do the report etc on my behalf?
What if I wanted an agent to do the one year retirement renewal on my behalf? Presumably that is not possible as surely I need to attend as there is an "interview" and my photo is taken?
So what is the position?
Thank you in advance.

So out of curiosity then, if you all had you're way ( which seems to be Sacking Hodgson ), who is your choice to replace him ??
Well they could do no worse than put Dalgliesh in temporary charge, who is tried and tested, has the background and record and has Liverpool in his heart.
Maybe someone should have a word with the new owners who have just spend hundreds of millions and getting rid of Hodgson would be loose change to them.
A short term boost is needed.
Hodgson has shown he is toxic and a liability and is simply not right for Liverpool and the results confirm that.
-
You Liverpool supporters should be shouting and screaming to get rid of the idiot Hodgson. Clueless, useless, out of his depth etc. He is quoted as saying Liverpool dominated Everton even though we could all see the home side were sound winners at 2-0.

Have to say looking at the pictures, the place looks like a monstrosity.
Who in their right mind would want to live there?

I do agree it does seem petty taking away the water fountains at Tony's. I was there the other day and other members who did not know what was happening were expressing annoyance and amazement that no "free" water available. Can understand why the towel facility was removed as unfortunately according to the gym a significant minority of members were stealing them. Can also almost understand turning off the air cons in the night time.
But this latest cost cutting measure is mean spirited, counter productive and does nothing for public relations bearing in mind what ought to be a comparitively minor expense for the gym is greatly outweighed by what was a benefit to the members.
Many people including "life" members joined Tony's on the basis of free towels and water being part of the package etc., so have to wonder what else is going to be changed?

Many thanks to everyone who has taken the trouble to reply to my question. Please take this general thank you as individualised.
Have to say the Montri rings a bell, so that surely is the place. Must be mistaken about being on perhaps the 8th floor as remember it was at least 5 or 6 + years ago my last trip to CM so my memory may be defective on the floor number. I do remember looking down on the traffic below so must of been the top floor i stayed in.
If I can get a room for 800 baht there now, that does not sound unreasonable.
That said from my internet research and talking with a few locals from CM here in Pattaya seems prices generally in Chiang Mai have increased a lot in the last few years?
Is that so?
And welcome any further input or recommendations on centrally located places to stay.
Whilst on the subject be glad for any ideas for day or night activities/place to see or visit, and be glad to know of any suggestions for a decent gym locally for a day or weeks membership.
Chok Dee!

I live in Thailand but last visited Chiang Mai about 5-6 years ago. On that last visit I stayed at a reasonable/budget hotel @ about 600-750 per night. The hotel is near Tapae Gate(ruined wall) . it has many floors as I remember staying on a high floor, perhaps 8th floor, and there is a small reception on the ground floor with safe boxes behind the counter. As part of or near to the hotel is a restaurant/coffee shop afronting the main road and has a cake shop.
I have racked my brain and researched the area on the net but I cannot remember or locate the name of the place.
Things may have changed since my last visit but can anyone familiar with CM tell me the name of the hotel?
Many thanks in advance!

Thank you OP for the interesting posting. I have been looking for an apartment or house to rent in the central pattaya area for around half a year and my experience is the same with landlord/owners and agents seeking ludicrous rental prices when it is clear supply greatly exceeds demands. Fortunately for me I am under no necessity to move until the right place comes along at the right price.

I have no idea if he is guilty or not, which is for the Thai Courts to decide.
Not referring necessarily to this particular case, does anyone know if the Thai Authorities do background checks upon persons like retirees/long stayers to discover if anyone applying to be in Thailand long time has a criminal record in their home country?
And if not, why not?
If a check is done and it is discovered a person has a record such as for child abuse, then surely that person should not be allowed to be here?
If he is allowed to be in Thailand despite having such a known record, the Thai authorities ought to bear some responsibility if he commits a crime whilst here.

Have to say some sunday morning teams on display:
Greece, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand(despite the draw) to name a few.
They are more suited to Wimbledon Common!
What a farce when one consider the teams not in SA such as China, Sweden, Ireland etc

Watching Brazil they show tremendous confidence and arrogence, and play with a swagger that England ought to exhibit instead of behaving liked rabbits caught in the headlights:

Pattaya real estate: supply massively exceeding demand.
So I hope that owners/landlords will negotiate realistic rental prices.
Message to tenants: do not be fooled into paying nonsensically high rents!

Well Tq1 was an awful place. Not only a 'clique', but the females seemed to be mainly grandmother types. The time I went to the place I and those with me lasted barely one drink.
Does anyone know if criminal charges will be laid against the owners for the fire there?

I looked at City Gardens, and even the property agent admitted to me it was a "chicken warren" . From my research I discovered that no one with any sense wants to live there.
City Gardens, is in the same street as a place called The Urban, which is next to another new monstrocity calling itself the "Nova Avenue".
People are now calling the area:
Soi Ghetto.
