The Africans have certainly done a lot for lower Sukhumvit...a lot of people no longer go there because of them.
'The Africans'?? What are you on? so all Africans can be neatly bundled together can they? Actually I really like soi 3. The Arabs and the Africans lend a unique atmosphere to lower Sukhumvit. One of their great attractions is that they drive away the dog tossers. Which your comments tend to suggest is a group you are amply qualified to join.

The main question I have is: can you get a beer on these new trains?

"The Africans taking over my grandparents neighborhood in Miami comes to mind, but that actually took five years+ "
Are you sure that KKK stands for Khon Kaen Kowboy and not Ku Klux Klan. Pathetic racist post.

Does anyone know if the SME bank is included on the list?

Correction ,just checked, you are right the BBC are channels not listed on Expats web site but the channels are on my service from them, maybe its a legal issue. Why dont you email them, they are usually very fast at replying. All the BBC stations are on air at time of posting
I don't know why they dont list them either. I was renewing with Expat TV and wanted to change the package and I asked them to confirm that they have all the BBC channels and they conformed that they do and sent me a link. no idea why they dont list them on the main site....

Someone should import some Christmas Crackers - never seen them here they'd make killing
Haven't seen Sausage Bob's (Tower Bridge) mince pies anywhere yet. An thoughts?
I'm not bothering with Turkey this year. Cold meats and Salmon for us as the boys like that better.

Thank you all for your posts, my colleague had to wait a considerable amount of time for her re-entry permit, which is fine is you are not working, but she is! Understandably many people simply don't trust immigration so don't want to leave things to chance at CM airport, even though most people seem to thing its safe to do so.

Does anyone know what the queues are like at Promenada now that the Airport office is closed? I have a colleague who needs to get a re-entry permit in the morning. Thanks for any advice.

Well they haven't got round to removing the water hyacinth from the Ping in Chiang Mai which I overlook form my condo. So as usual its only Bangkok that will benefit.

All imported beer to LOS is a rip-off due to protectionist taxes...period.
I know I'm being pedantic, but its the spiraling duty on beer as much as the import taxes that has hit all booze prices in Thailand and starting to make the country expensive on cost comparison sites like Numbeo. You know you're being hit for 6 when you are asked to pay 1,020 Baht for Bombay Sapphire in Makro and 300 Baht in Tachilek duty free! The government are making a killing.

We were told that the restriction on political activity was because the situitation was 'unstable'. So, after 2 and a half years in power, is the situitation still 'unstable'?
If so, then the military have failed miserably. But it really has nothing to do with stabiity, it has everything to do with power and control. That, and the end of democracy in Thailand.
Absolutely correct. Thailand is light years away from anything approaching an open democracy. They should look to Burma for an example!!!!

I couldn't agree more.
Red Buses are great during the day for short trips around town, but it all falls apart at dusk, and/or for slightly longer trips.
I don't agree. We've always managed to get a Songthaew to take us back from town to Nong Hoi after midnight. We pay them 100B. They are happy. If they take us right to the door of the condo they get a 20B tip. Far prefer Songthaew to tuk-tuks but will try Uber.

Is that an app Millwall fan?
GRAB is an app. Yes.

WE used GRAB taxi regulary when we lived in BKK. Fantastic. Prior to GRAB's arrival we had to go through the hassle of negotiating off meter prices all the time - and had to get a moto taxi to the end of our soi as taxis rarely cam up it. After GRAB turned up we just had to plug in our details, offer a small tip to increase the drivers interest and we always got a cab to the door whenever we wanted one. I haven't tried it yet in CM, but will do at some point.

Quite often, more often than not red cars will not accept 20 baht for a fare , Tapae gate to the bus station and they usually ask for 100 Baht , although , if you ask enough of them, you can get it for 50 Baht .
Don't ask them how much it is or they'll assume you want a private hire. Tell the driver where you want to go, if he nods get in and give him 20B when you get out.

For a decent range of imported beers to drink at home, try Horeca on the super highway. They're the same people that own Beer Republic. You have to buy by the case though as they're a wholesaler
-
Archers has Olde Speckled Hen on draught. Number 1 has bottled Blegian beers, Beer Republic has a pretty good range, but the absolute best place for craft beers is Namtons House Bar on Chiang Mai-Lamphun rd opposite the Gymkhana and close to the electric company offices. He's always got 8 to 10 draught craft beers from around the world. It aint cheap though, minimum 250 Baht a pint some are 350 Baht or more. Worth going for a treat though. The food is a bit iffy.

I tried to Google this research - which Coconuts has no link to, to look at the methodology, but couldn't find it. According to the comparison site 'Numbeo', Bangkok is one of the more expensive cities in Asia. My bet is that the That Trip Adviser didn't include alcohol costs which push Bangkok way up the price league. As most people like a drink or two on holiday, booze should be factored in.

One of the problems with counsellors/psychologists etc in Thailand is that many are not well trained and pander to the Thai expectancy to walk away from any consultation with a bag full of drugs - often quite powerful drugs. As Dante says, Suan Prung hospital would be a good starting point.

I applied to join the Culture Course at Far Eastern University in Chiang Mai due to start on 2nd December, but they have just cancelled it and said I will have to go to Bangkok to do it. As this is the 3rd time I have attempted to go on this course, they say they may exempt me from it.....or may not..... Utterly ridiculous!

Is the following of any value https://www.citibank.co.th/en/investments/investment-retirement-plan.htm#mainWrapper
Surely Mrs millwall_fan is a self employed homemaker without a need for financial record keeping wishing to make a voluntary investment at least once a year.
Now that looks like the best bet so far. I will look into this. Many thanks

Wait awhile. Once things have calmed down, wiser counsel may yet prevail as it already has in some areas.
