And meanwhile in the real world....................

4 supercrooked Thai cops, who looted billions from the Thai people , were released on bail after less than 12 hours in the slammer!!bah.gif width=19 alt=bah.gif>

Ofcourse, they were a little better connected than the B2!!

We are all awaiting the trial of these super crooks. It is my contention, that despite what the big army man says, guys like these, and guys like the headman and his son, simply do not go to trial in Thailand. If you are worth over $50,000,000US, you are above the law. Lets see if they want to make an example of these turds. The fact that they were granted bail is astonishing. More than likely they have tens of millions of dollars already parked overseas. Nobody really knows the true extent of their thievery. It was massive, and to let them out on bail shows how not serious the authorities are about this, perhaps.

I don't think you need that much - 50m BAHTt would be more than enough to place yourself above the law 10m B probably.

So much for the 100% "perfect" case...

Looks like the rotten and corrupt RTP has some explaining to do smile.png

    Power to the people!

This would be a convenient way out for all though: The suspects 'committing suicide' is not a goer with the international publicity and a sovereign government being involved. Allowing these two unfortunates to crawl off back to Burma would at least take them out of the equation. Sadly it would also let the little F****wit who actually did it off scot free, but then he isn't going to be put in the frame anyway. The only people who would suffer from this scenario are the families of David and Hannah, but the authorities here couldn't give 25 Satangs about them anyway.

yes but you get your pound back if you return the trolley instead of abandoning it

No you don't. Not at Manchester. I was there in August - its not like a shopping trolley. you put your quid into a machine and that's the cost: i deliberately left my trolley in the bog to make them earn their money!

BTW OP you're not exactly being generous - at today's rates you're offering 24 baht in commission to take your shrapnel off you! When I had my pub I used to let punters spend UK coins at advantageous rates to get bums on seats. One year I took 150 quid back to UK in coins. Weighed ton!

This topic has been a tough one to moderate, however some posts that have gone a bit too far over the line have been removed as well as the replies. Any discussion of the Monarchy or members of the royal family in a political context will result in a ban. This includes vague comments that could be construed as referring to the Monarchy.

Some other posts baiting for off topic discussion and making personal comments on other members have been removed as well,

Maybe you should consider dropping the news forum altogether, Metisdead, as that to which I referred is germane, indeed central to the whole subject matter of this thread, How can we discuss the issue of military rule at all if all the factors that legitimise it cannot be discussed? It leads to a discussion which suggests that all members support the dictatorship. Which they clearly don't. Believe me, I quite understand your dilemma and the tightrope you walk, but if all viewpoints cannot be put, maybe it would be better if none were.

I would like to say something that I have noticed for many years now.

This probably reflects the education level, or the intelligence level, or the thinking process, or the lack of thinking process, of so many of the members of this forum.

    These follow up posting threads like this one could seem to indicate the following;

The thread opens with a news article. Many times having most of the pertinent data and info in the body of the story. Many times leaving out related information that would/could have added a lot to the information conveyed to the readers.

We seem to have an abundance of posters to either do not read he article in full or just do not comprehend what the article states, and then the go off on a rampage post about this or that, with glaring inaccuracies that were not stated in the article but may have been interpreted by the reader, based on his own bias and/or opinion. Some statements may be then posted that are glaringly wrong.

The next potential poster reads the errors and takes them as gospel and compounds and perpetuates them in his post.

On down the line we have posters ranting and raving about this and that , whats right and what is wrong, and very little of it was in the original article.

We get so much bickering and posturing based not on the article, but conjectured words that are then passed on and read by additional readers as the gospel truth.

Let me suggest something please, If you are going to comment and make a post on a thread, please read the original posted thread. I would think that to make a good sense. You can and are still able to make your point and stand known, but it would show a better level of intelligence on your part.

The thing is, Gonzo, my old friend, the kind of discussion and argument you talk about, is robust political debate and discussion and Thailand needs more of it, not less! One hopes the Thais are conducting the same kind of debate as we are having in their own language, on other forums.....hope springs eternal.

This opinion poll like all others conducted under military rule is utterly meaningless. conducted by semi educated university students amongst their friends in the Sukhumvit wine bars it does not constitute a view of the Thai people as a whole. If the result were to be against the military dictators, it could not be published under military censorship rules. Complete rubbish. Next!

Yes. I'm sure a professional polling company would conduct their polls in local wine bars and then tell everyone that they actually telephone these people all over the country.

    Who to believe?

'Professional Polling Company'??? You're in the wrong country..

It's not a problem PTP/UDD are not democratic element in Thailand.......

Whereas Gen. Prayuth and his friends who stole power at the end of a gun barrel are of course, consummate democrats?

What about a political party would use illegal means to control totally the country, to govern for a convict fugitive person and not for the well being of the people, to try to destroyed check of balance of institutions for their own profit.. I call this an anti democratic party

You've been reading 'The Nation' too much!

Ha! Ha! Same old, same old! Some of you guys really thought the military stole power to get rid of corruption. I posted at the time of the coup and before that they merely wanted to restore the proceeds of corruption to the rightful owners! Thanks to Prayuth's dad for showing us how sticky fingers are still stuck in the till!!

You do realise that the land was sold 18 months ago, don't you?

And no one has actually been able to suggest what corruption took place with the sale. Do you have anything new to add?

I think Thaksin's defence in the Rachadapisek land deal was that no corruption took place. As the general stole power at the end of a gun - apparently to end corruption, perhaps the onus is on him and his family to justify large land transfers at a time when there is no democratic accountability.

  10. As everyone is saying the larger birds are in Rimping and are substantially more expensive than Makro. Gonzo runs a business ipso facto he needs to keep costs down. So if anyone sees 9Kg turkeys in Makro, do post!

  11. I knew a guy (wealthy) who brought several thousand cigarettes in from Dubai and paid the duty on them simply to avoid having the packets with the photos of dead people and blackened lungs on. If you smoke though, why be squeamish - its the reality. I honestly don't know if the fags at Swampy have the photos, but the ones in Dubai don't. As to whether its safe to buy in duty free here. I don't know but be very careful if you do.

  12. Fresh Salmon fillet - almost anywhere - they run out and no-one cars. keep searching

Grapefruit - almost nowhere. Try Pomelo the nearest Thai equivalent. not a tart as grapefruit, but the same consistency

Celery - 'Goon chai' Thai celery is available on every market stall. tastes the same but the stalks are thinner. Western celery is available in Makro, Villa, sometimes and Tops sometimes.

  13. If you have an ASEAN driving licence you can in theory drive on your domestic licence. Getting a Thai driving licence is one of the easier tasks to accomplish in this country. The centre on Sukhumvit soi 62 should be able to rustle up an English speaker. Within 2-4 hours and after a few rudimentary tests (almost impossible to fail) and the payment of 550 baht you should walk out with your Thai licence. You get 1 year in the first instance then 5 years renewable. I went there for my 2nd 5 year licence earlier this year.

  14. Ciggies are about the only thing that is cheap in Thailands grossly corrupt duty free business: King Power lost their monopoly franchise a couple of years ago but then paid off the right people and were reinstated. They may be slightly cheaper than Abu Dhabi duty free, but at least in Abu Dhabi Duty Free you don't run the risk of being 'arrested' for 'shoplifting' and only released upon payment of a large 'fine' as has happened at Suvarnabhumi in the past couple of years. If you have to kill yourself cigarettes are roughly 95 baht a pack duty paid, 70 baht duty free at Swampy, and 80 baht in Abu Dhabi.
