  1. his VISA O is not the retirement, is not the STV. months ago his girlfriend made a 5-pages photo album and asked amphur for endorsing the informal relationship. he told this album to the Thai embassy and told them this is a trip for marriage. Thai embassy issued a VISA O to him, for 90 days.

When he makes the appointment at his Embassy for his affirmation of freedom to marry, he should also have them take a copy of his Passport and certify it. Most Amphurs want a certified copy of Passport and translation, legalised by the MFA.

The Consular Affairs section of the MFA is located at, Department of Consular Affairs. 123 Chaengwattana Rd., Tungsonghong Laksi Bangkok 10212.

There is a translation office on the 2nd floor. He should have both his Passport copy and affidavit legalised and both translated to Thai. You can have these sent to you by return EMS post rather than wait in Bangkok for 100 baht.

they will be busy with the above process next weeks. thanks for the details ! ONE QUESTION - would the amphur need the translated / legalised certificate of divorce ? the embassy requests to check the document before issuing the affirmation of freedom to marry, but not ask for translating it. I read somewhere the registrar officer asked for it during the marriage registration ? ? ?

If his 400K hasn't been in the bank for the required 2 months and his 90 day permission of stay is due to shortly expire, once married he can apply for a 60 day extension based on 'visiting Thai wife'.

yeah, good idea ! I actually dont know there is a 60-days extension on 'visit Thai wife'. I never use it, or I never consider using it !

thanks, all suggestions are very clear.

There is not 30 day extension he can apply for. He can apply for a 60 day extension to visit his wife after he gets married.

He will be applying for a one year extension of stay based upon marriage that is not a visa of any kind. He already has a non-o visa entry.

No trip out of the country is needed to activate a extension of stay. It starts from the end of his 90 day permit to stay or the 60 day extension of it when they do the one year extension stamp at immigration.

thanks ubonjoe, very clear and precise !

    - arrived Thailand with an initial 90-days VISA O

    - last 30 days, [TM7] apply for 60 days extension - visit wife.

    - while these 90 days + 60 days still valid, [TM7] apply for one year extension - Thai Spouse

    - the one year extension for Thai Spouse is built on the initial VISA O = Non-Immigrant VISA O - Thai Spouse !

    quite straightforward though ! many thanks . . .

Best not to pay much attention to what a Thai embassy or consulate when it concerns immigration matters. They don't have a clue in most cases.

thanks ubonjoe, share the same idea with you !

we are quite familiar with the TM7 ????  now all things in progress :

    - TM30 done

    - setup bank account with THB400,000, done

    - affirmation of freedom to marry, next with own embassy in Bangkok

    - translation and legalisation, next at MFA in Bangkok

    - marriage registration, next at amphur in Udon Thani

    - TM7 30 days extension of stay, last 30 days, Immigration Udon Thani

    - TM7 Non-Immigrant VISA O - Thai Spouse, once THB400,000 x2 months, Immigration Udon Thani

    - TM8 re-entry permit, once VISA is issued, Immigration Udon Thani

    - leave Thailand to neighbouring country, and return (and quarantine again)

    - Non-Immigrant VISA O - Thai Spouse activated at the Immigration point, permit-to-stay 1 year

    BINGO !

You really need to confirm which Visa he entered Thailand on.

A TV will have granted a stay of 60 days.

A Non Imm O will have granted a stay of 90 days.

To apply for a 1 year extension you need a 'Non Immigrant' type Visa.

Entering TV he will need to complete the TM86 to obtain the Non O, but if he entered Non O, he can apply directly for the 1 year extension, subject to meeting the requirements.

the proof of address RECAP :

    - take a copy of the TM30 notification of foreigner residence,

    - signed by the Tabian Baan owner,

    - with copy of his Thai ID and signed,

    - he also has the phone bill with his name.

sorry for off topic discussion : apply for Non-Immigrant VISA O - Thai Spouse, my friend has a Non-Immigrant VISA O (not tourist, not retirement, not marriage), it allows him to stay for 90 days. it was issued by the Thai Embassy overseas, he told the embassy entering Thailand for marriage and for applying Non-Immigrant VISA O - Thai Spouse. he was told by the embassy taking the TM86 and change the VISA O into VISA O - Thai Spouse. the last part I was in doubt too.

If he entered on a Non O Visa that is the correct type for applying for a 1 year extension.

TM86 is only required if he entered on a Tourist Visa and needs to change the Visa status to a Non O as a prelude to applying for a 1 year extension. (Check and confirm)

The 400K must be deposited in a Thai bank for 2 months prior to the date of the extension application.

Once married, he can apply for a 60 day extension if he requires more time to season the 400K for the required 2 months.

His current priority is to file a TM30 asap.

Deposit the 400K in a Thai bank.

Obtain an affidavit of freedom to marry, then register the marriage.

thanks Tanoshi, I have the exact document you attached. that is a very complete document from Immigration Bangkok.

TM30 already be filed, but not the new one. the suggestion of the Tabian Baan owner signing on the TM30, with his Thai ID should be doable. the affirmation of freedom to marry, Kor Ror 2, Kor Ror 3 and the 400k deposit all in progress. now he is counting days on that 400k for 2 months !

just wonder if this is correct :

Non-Immigrant VISA O (not sure if it is a tourist VISA - TR) from overseas > marriage registration + 400K deposit > file TM86 and apply Non-Immigrant VISA O - Thai Spouse ?

mine was decades ago, I believe the process may be different.

  6. thanks guys . . .

I already informed him and his in-law family the TM30 (the reporting of a foreigner's residence) by the HOUSE OWNER. his concern - IF he could take the TM30 as HIS proof of address, while the TM30 is a paper of the HOUSE OWNER ? I am not sure neither.

TM86 - change of VISA type. he came in with the Non-Immigrant VISA O (stay 90 days), issued by a Thai Embassy overseas. he is now preparing the marriage registration and the THB400k deposit. he was told to use the TM86 to change the VISA type to the Non-Immigrant VISA O - Thai Spouse, once all requirements are fulfilled.

  7. our little creature - woralut, still enjoying his/her time in the garden !  recommended by a Thai friend, we get a big guy (he is a fireman, off-duty now parttime) and help to catch this monitor lizard. but he hide himself deep under the structure of the deck/terrace, in an hour of effort, nothing move. we all gave up.

my wife, she suspects that this creature is not alone ? in the rain storm another day, she saw one maybe a bit smaller. ok, ok, ok, we will have a small lizard farm very soon !

    thanks and cheers !

It is worrying, but not as worrying as you might think as in Thailand everyone with positive test-results are hospitalized. This is also so even if you have mild or no symptoms. I am pretty sure the majority falls into that category.

What I really like to know is how many tests they have done and the positive ratio from those. I fear the numbers of tests done are limited and the positive ratio be high.

    WB

YES, this is exactly the point !  these 1,543 are tested and found, there are UNKNOWN not been found !  the crazy reality, they start COMING BACK to Bangkok in next coming couple of days ! and back to the society as usual !

they could be someone in your distant families, someone in the gym you go everyday, someone in the office just a desk away . . .

  9. thanks guys

two years ago we had a big one 1.5m+ monitor lizard in the garden, it walked through the gate feely. yet my wife recognised this was the same baby one two months ago, and it grows up a bit today. I had not much a problem if monitor lizard, snack or else just come or go, kind of the nature, but my residing in the garden.  now it hides under the deck that is NOT POSSIBLE to reach.

will call the "assorted creatures" wrangler for help !

  10. 'From February 28 to April 9, a total of 537,380 doses were administered in 77 provinces. Over 470,301 people have received the first dose, while 67,079 people have got both doses. Most of the inoculated people were medical personnel.'

with this momentum, say rounding it up to 2,000 people receiving both doses per day. Thailand population is 70 million, and the herd immunity is about 49 million. we may see 24,000+ days to reach this target.  did my calculator miss something ?

  11. hi there

this is not our pet, this is not in 7/11; we found an one meter+ monitor lizard who hides under the desk in our garden. we saw it two months ago and hope it runs away by itself, but not and we found it again this morning, and security could not able to catch it. this is in a mo baan with 1.4m high fence at 4 sides, assumed it could not climb over the straight wall.

we have small kid and cat in the garden, our serious concern ! HOW we could chase it away ? or make it not residing in the garden ?

    thanks for any help !
