  1. screeding is a critical skill, not all workers manage it (some will idle). after screeding need sometimes to wait before laying the tiling (another idle in the work site).

after screeding, Thai workers do have enough knowledge and equipment to check the levelling never. they check the smoothness by eyes, not the leveling.

last year I re-tile my living room with huge 80x160cm tiles, each weight 25kg. the workers put a thin cement on the base, but not levelled. I saw how they work, and I was sweating. two tiles went wrong.

the FILM code notch PDF (your attachment) is a very useful reference too, thanks and I forget all about these ????

I am looking for indeed the FRAME NOTCH on different medium format cameras. on the internet there are many FRAMES available as a graphic overlay, but they don't refer to any of the camera brand.

  3. hi there

this evening I moved a 12-years old Samsung TV to my father-in-law. the TV was functioning perfectly at my place, but it doesn't able to scan local Thai TV signal via the RF cable from the fishbone antenna (in-between NO any converter). it doesn't able to register even one channel. I started from scanning the ASIA/West Europe, then be crazy and went through all other regions, no luck.

in the same house, I connect the Samsung TV to the TRUE VISION box with HDMI, all perfect. I also connect the TV to an android box via HDMI, no problem.

any hint on this troubleshoot ?  is it the analogy vs digital TV story ?

    thanks

  4. been used a Linksys wifi-to-wifi range extender, it works but with quite a bit of limitation. then later the best way connection is the cable-to-wifi extender, just reduce the load of the radio in the extender.

it was my fault laying out the router location. so eventually I moved the router location to a better spot. and I plan my devices as follow :

    - work related and need fast speed, then keep them within the sight on 5MHz

    - mobile devices, IoT, non-critical, all on the 2.4MHz, that has a lot better coverage

now, I don't use range extender anymore !

Yes, it is also about making merit for a deceased family member.  Which is what I saw while a monk in Thailand more than just about everything else.  But even then, most of the time it wasn't about learning more about Buddhism than making the family look good in the neighborhood.  Have you ever seen the bumper stickers on auto's, " My son is a honor student at John McGraw High School", same kind of thing.

ha ha ha . . . catch it !  this is likely the Asian family value and believe !

The mark you refer to? On the Neg or in Viewfinder?  I have Used Mamiya and Bronica and Yashica MF Cameras cant remember any marks.......... I Couldnt afford Blads and Rollei BTW.

good point, I refer to the frame notch on the FILM. in those days, all medium format and large format have marks on the frame, including Mamiya and Bronica (they are at the corners of the frame).

they call it NOTCH ?  with this as the search word, I cannot find the collection of notch on other cameras. I 'had' a photographic book in those dates that listed out all varieties of notch on the different brands. but I cannot find this book anymore.

my father-in-law has some very old 120 pictures that still print with the notch on the paper. I try to help him remembering what cameras he used for those pictures.

    thanks . . .

  8. hi there

in the old day (oh . . . my day), camera brands each made different signature mark that leaked into the edge of the frame. for example, Hasselblad has a triangle mark at the midpoint along the edge of the frame; Rollei has a different one, Sinar has another one . . .

what this signature mark called ?  could not able to find it in Google. I want to track some of the old pictures and identify which cameras took them.

    thanks . . .

To be honest with you, it has nothing really to do with Buddhism.  The main reason it became a thing to do in Thailand, was that several former Kings did it before becoming King.  Rama IX did it and it became kind of the thing to do.  The current King didn't so it will probably fade in time.

    thanks khaowong

good to know it is a Thai influence than a religious tradition !!  I thought that it is making a merit, or a kind of paving the way or RIP to the decease.

learn two more words ☺️ would Thai really care the difference between a monk or a novice monk, in terms of their respect to the monk and the religious ?

It depends on the age of the person they send to be a monk . . . I saw many young men ordain for a month or 3 months because of a death in the family.  Back 10 or 15 years ago, it was considered to be mandatory for a male member of a family to ordain for even a short period of time . . .

    thanks khaowong

yeah, it was about 10 years ago, the young man was about 13 years old, he just stayed for couple of weeks, and the family was proud of this.

what is the meaning of this in the Buddhism ?

  12. hi there

in the Thai family when someone passed away, they send a young family member to the temple and be a temporary monk for a week or so. my understanding that this is not a temporary monkhood (that the period of time may be longer).

    my questions :

    - what does it call in Thai and in English ?

    - what does it mean in the religious ?

    thanks

  13. Happy New Year to you all

my VISA end date Mar 1, I used to apply extension on first week Feb, and usually that process takes 4 weeks.  I have an overseas travel leaving Thailand on last week Feb, and coming back on first week Mar.

when I return, my passport has an expired VISA date, and it doesn't have the new extension new stamps on it yet.  how should I deal with it - apply earlier, express process, or different procedure on arrival ?

    cheers

I would like to know, after you return to your residence, it lists your check-in date and checkout date, what do you enter if you don't know your checkout date, do you leave blank or put any date in. Thanks

I read it somewhere, in the case we don't know the possible 'checkout' date, then enter the end date of the VISA extension ( the last date allowed to stay ).  then, while we come back from a trip ( domestic or international ), we fill in the new 'check in' date, and the same 'last date allowed to stay'.

if anyone have this experience or information, please share !

    cheers
