  1. I do not work.

I have sent Millions of Baht to Thailand a couple of years ago (from an account in my name) that I want to send back abroad (home) to an account in my name.

It says I need a work permit and a letter from an employer, <deleted>? The lady in the local branch told me bluntly I can not wire money from Thailand to my self without these documents.

So how do I get around this ridiculous situation ?

I am not concerned at all about reporting to the Gov on the other end or need to send it in small amounts to avoid this, (as seems to be an issue to many reading other threads here).

  2. Something to be aware of, things are not as cheap as they may seem.

A condo in a city in that country with some "western" luxuries like AC, hot water etc is extremely expensive. Upwards of $1500 USD (45,000B) a month for not much at all. The same would be about 10,000B a month in a place like Chaing Mai or the Pattaya sest pit.

I presume supply and demand but not really sure, (as supply and demand is thrown out the winder regarding pricing in Thailand)

There is plenty of info on this site in the sub forum.

  3. You pay at the border, 2 years ago it used to be cheaper in USD, not sure about now.

Just get kip there, no problem with that.

I added up the van from the airport to the border, bridge crossing tuk tuk, tuk tuk to hotel, hotel to consolute rtn both dasy and reverse, Why don't you give the ad to the right at the casino ago, includes that, a nice room, a massage and 3 meals a day. The numbers add up.

  4. That's what I wonder about. When you land, do you cut it off for customs?

This is not a problem at all, in oz they happily cut it away with a smile. The chap even made the comment that BKK is well knows for theft last time I went through with lots of food to declare in the wrapped bag. The wrapping was 700grams in weight, weight it before and after on the same scales at the wrapping boy. Several at BKK on departures near the entry doors.

  5. I mean this in all seriousness, you sound like you are in the middle of Nakon Nowhere, probably lots of cheap land sitting around doing nothing, grow some crops, like sunflowers & make vegi oil and what it in your diesel gen set during the day and use a UPS like Crossy has in his house, that will run everything by night that is also charged during the day.

Delibratly moving to some where without electricity is just asking for troubles. You have to give and take. If you want 19th century technology you have to move to part of the world that at least offers that. Chances are high that the solar will cost you more than the land many times over !!!! I am trying to be constructive here and think about a reality check. It will be interesting if there is a a good solution offered.

  6. There was no hissing, no smell.

The compressor I though was sealed? The fan and the cooling metal fins around the compressor out side is clean to look at.

Inside, the filters are clean regually but yes, there is a big of crap in there on the fins and the rotatory fan blades inside. I have seen much worse though. It would be time for a annual 'deep clean', the 2500b job.

I thought the thump came from inside, but I honestly do not know, as the compressor is on the wall out side, and there is a window under the inside air con that a big bang noise could have come through the window.

    The breakers are set OK.

If the compressor died, wouldn't there still be power to the actual unit?

I will go look for this : As said normally units will be protected by a breaker located near the fan coil inside unit so perhaps that is all you heard and if reset will work?

    Thanks.

  7. Hi, I am looking for any tips before I get ripped off form the air con man !

It is a Mitsubishi split system, a small one about 12000btu. While running during the night set to 27' it made a thump and died. It shows no sign of any life now.

Any tips, is there a common little safety switch or something in them I can try?

    Thanks

  8. It is 14 rings deep (each ring abut 1 foot deep about) and it is 1.5m diameter.

In wet season it is naturaly about 9 wings full of water and dry it got down to about 4 rings full of water. (This after pumping it dry and looking in the next day.

We are not using it for drinking, actually we are only using it for the garden and I used it over the dry to stop the ground from drying out to much, I would like to use it for house hold water including showering, washing up, toilet. Not drinking.

It is a faint stagnant smell. I bit like when you have a vase full of roses and the water smells after 3 days.

When it was first dug, I left it untouched for about 7 weeks, it was really smelly then, it is just a faint smell now, but I can't rid the smell. Chlorine didn't work.

    Just after some ideas

  9. I have had a well 14 rings deep in fro about 1 year, it did not dry out in the wet, it is in white sand.

The water is clear to look at, but just has a bit of a smell to it. After daily pumping it for nearly 2.5 hours to a very low level for months, it still has a little smell. I also split the hose and a small hose goes back into it to, to air rate it.

    Still smells.

I put in powdered chlorine and left it a few days, after that t took a week of daily pumping and all the smell of that went, and it then smells the same.

I was told to put in some bacteria like I do to the septic tanks. I am like <deleted>?

Does anyone have any experiences with this?

  10. There is allot of information leaking out of Susi Air, the company which killed Ian (Blinky Bill) since the crash.

Unfortunately everyone in the industry doubts anything will change. Here is a leaked report that if Blinky Bills employer knew about, well this thread would probably not be here now.

If the law and basic standard were followed this thread would defiantly not be here now.

It is chilling. It is Damning. Blinky Bill did not need to die.

It was written and presented in January 2012 regarding the Susi Air operation after 2 fatal crashes and before their 3rd in less than 9 months.

-> “It is clear that Susi Air does not have the required personnel under Part 135”.

-> “That the only course of action is to suspend operation of Susi Air until all required post holders are recruited and put in place with full authority to act as necessary.”

-> “There is no safety manager and therefore no oversight of the safety of the Susi Air operation.”

-> “Susi Air has issued some certificates for a very questionable PC 6 Porter Type Course in 2011. My understanding is that the instructor had never worked on a Porter PC6 or done an approved course.”

-> “The Susi Air Safety Management system is totally dysfunctional”

-> “If nothing is done to control this company the risk of loss of life is probably now extremely high and beyond a level which is acceptable in any risk management system.”

Above is what my attention, but many more details as well.

    Report summary:

    http://www.gogoflori...rter-pc6-crash/

Industry insiders are saying the likely cause is fuel contamination, whichincidentallyis a previous issue with Susi Air who have had malfunctioning engines in 2011 due to excessive water added to the fuel tanks on a Caravan.

New Australian Embassy Warning on the Airline:

Fatal air crashes involving the Indonesian carrier Susi Air occurred on 9 September 2011, 23 November 2011 and 25 April 2012. Australian officials in Indonesia have been directed not to use Susi Air for official travel until further notice.

RIP Ian, Lets hope enough people are pissed off enough to make it not a death in vain.

Oh this is really sad, Ian if he is the guy who I think he is was a real nice guy.

He had defiantly seen plenty of the world. I hope his family are managing OK.

It really makes me angry seeing these little airlines and corruption killing people for greedy $$$.

I hope his family or boss sues their butts off.
