  1. I have been afflicted by the bugs as well twice in the last month.

I had a fever and a cold with a bit of a sinus infection cleared up by itself after a week or so.

Then this week had a severe fever which I let break by itself without paracetamol. I had an absolute nightmare of a night never felt so sick except when I had food poisoning once before. Now I have a bit o a chest infection. Not sure whether to get antibiotics or ride it out.

I attribute it to walking around Pattaya. It hasn't rained for three months here and the place is putrid. Open drains everywhere severe motor pollution.

I am going to move outside of Central Pattaya in the future it is just too dirty.

Very similar to me, had a cold bug about 1 month ago, took maybe 10 days to clear up, it then came back on Thursday.

Not bad, just a little uncomfortable and will let time run it`s course

Also in Pattaya, might well be due to the dirt, dryness, recent changes in temperature etc ?

  2. I`ve never lived there but based on a short stay, found it to be a very pleasant friendly and laid back place.

I stayed at Gems Hotel, where there are some stands/booths selling gems on the ground floor.

That was fine, about 450 baht a night I think but they would do deal for a month, about 8K baht maybe?

Just in case you need a temporary base whilst exploring options.

    GL.

  3. They are building a new Makro ,opp the bus station on north Pattaya road.

    Interesting thanks.

That will be near the Tesco Lotus on pattaya nua then plus not far from where I live.

Never even been to a Makro.

Generally use Tesco Lotus, sometimes Big C and Foodland.

  4. I have bought it before at Best Supermarket, Pattaya nua/Dolphin roundabout, sometime ago, agree it is a good product.

One other that comes close/matches it is Boots " Essentials " shaving foam, thick foam, cost between 100-120 baht for a 250 ml can.

Bought about a couple of weeks ago in one of the Boots branches here, sorry forgotten which branch though.

  5. Any early news whether we're actually allowed to have a beer tonight in this great democracy?

I have some CHUMS here from England, so no interest in taking them down a filthy alley way somewhere drinking out of plastic cups with no music. We are not THAT desperate?

Legally it's game on again at midnight, that I do know..

    Hi

I was in a bar briefly last night ( on soi bukhao), sign there said no alcohol Jan 25 6.00 PM - Jan 26 6.00 PM so that would suggest OK from 6.00 PM onwards today assuming that bar got time correct and that there have been no changes.

  6. I realy love people with the only concairn in life is where they can buythere next beer.

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

people here are sharing information, it seems your only "concern" should be minding your own business if you have nothing constructive to say

go play with the traffic and do us all a favour

Thanks smedly, had heard there would be restrictions but you`ve confirmed that.

I`m guessing but it seems as though restaurants might be OK?

I was planning on a meal out and wanted to be able to drink wine with the meal.

I`ll take a chance, not a deal breaker if declined.

  7. On Pattaya Nua, a few metres from Dolphin Roundabout, there is a drinks distributor next to and owned by Best Supermarket, the latter retail Erdinger.

I have sometimes bought case lots of beer from that distributor at reasonable prices ( not Erdinger though )

Closed Sundays, open until about 7 or 8 PM other days.

Might be worth asking if not far out of your way.

Separate entrance to Best and they obviously supply bars in bulk.

Buy 5 cases or more, they`ll deliver free.

  8. The LAX consulate's visa form, which is the same form used for all types of visas, not just Tourist, also has that question about a guarantor on it. But I asked and was told to simply leave it blank (or put "NA") for a tourist visa. I've done that and never had a problem. I don't really get the part about your having had a non-imm O visa based on a GF(?), but suppose that has something - can't imagine what - to do with the letter request.

Just to clear up the confusion, the expired O visa had been obtained not through having a Thai GF but in the usual way at the time from a UK Thai Consulate, with no mention of a Thai GF.

I`m guessing here but I suppose at HCMC the consular staff member was wondering why I had already spent a fair amount of time in Thailand and was then requesting a Tourist visa.

That staff member insisted that my GF write a letter of guarantee, which she did and was also asked to produce a copy of her Thai ID card.

  9. Hi

Just in case of any use/interest I obtained a single entry tourist visa at the Thai Consulate in Saigon last week.

    Hardly any reports from there.

I have been staying in Thailand on a non imm O obtained from the UK for just under 15 months.

That fact was queried, fair enough, was asked if I had family in Thailand, which I don`t, my Thai GF was with me so merely stated I had a Thai GF.

I was asked to show my return entry in to Thailand, which I did not have with me and also asked to show proof of exit after potential visa from Thailand.

As time was short, went and got a print out of return flight entry to Thailand and a booking for an exit from Thailand from a nearby Travel agent.

Puzzling but my GF was asked to write a letter acting as guarantor for my visa, it was actually asked for on the form.

I did also show my UK bank account with significant funds, appeared to be of no interest.

By the rules, firm/hard but fair IMO.

Applied around 10.30 - 11.00 AM, collected visa next day, hardly anyone else there.

  10. I`m sure that the last time I was at the Rompho complex in Jomtien, quite some time back there was a shop called " OK burger"

I fancied a quick snack so ordered one.

A friend asked what it was like, answered " just OK "

It was neither particularly bad nor good

  11. Any amount over 10.000 Euros has to be declared to ukba or can be confiscated whilst you then have to prove the origin of cash is legitimate .

in UK the currency is GBP pounds sterling not Euros

hence the law is that you can take 10,000 GBP out of UK without fear of confiscation or proof of origin or declaration to UKBA

however this does not apply here as wineman wants to take his money back to UK

Sorry but( some) EU law applies to the UK, it is 10 K Euro, not 10 K £

You cannot take 10 K Euro out of or in to the UK without risk of confiscation if you cannot prove it` s origin.

You can get questioned on less than that.

UK border control/customs really don`t like cash.

  12. ah brilliant, would you advise using a company? or can I just make my own way on a regular bus?

    thnx

    Hi

For your first time, I`d suggest using a visa run company, a decent one will take care of paperwork etc and make it hassle free.

    Choice yours of course.

I`ve only done visa runs from Pattaya so can`t help you with Bangkok specific recommendations.

Yes, as said as a UK passport holder you will get another 30 days visa exempt entry for Thailand.

  13. Has anyone tried this place?

    Volare Rest cafe & friends

While I'm not a fan of tripadvisor, I pass this place regularly and the people look happy.

People commenting the pizzas are great.

Photos of two of them on the link. One of them has a promising CHAR. The other one has some serious LEAVES action going on!

    http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g293919-d3948817-Reviews-Volare_Rest_cafe_friends-Pattaya_Chonburi_Province.html

    Hi

    Yes, twice.

First visit had a salad, cold cuts platter and tortellini, all very good.

    Service good, house wine OK.

2nd visit, same starters followed by a prosciutto pizza, the pizza was fair to good.

I thought the prosciutto could have done with being slightly higher quality

    I will go again sometime.

  14. It`s in the soi next to me, from what little I know, appears to be trying to help to provide a better future for some.

I spoke briefly to a lady that was taking some classes there.

    Massage, languages etc.

    Fair play to them.

  15. All in all, western food - both to buy and in restaurants -- is better in Camb than in Thailand IMO. Much better. There are other things wherein Thailand has the edge but Western-food wise Cambodia wins in my book by a large margin, I always stock up on groceries and indulge in eating out when there as one of the big pluses.

Not much to be had out in the sticks of course, but that's the case in Thailand as well.

    Interesting thanks

Based only on one visit to PP and eating western food in restaurants I got a similar impression.

Service had an edge over Thailand also IMO.

More than happy with the western food there and one Italian restaurant I went to beat almost all that I`ve tried in Thailand so far.

  16. "Cooked into the sauce..." LOL...gotta be one of he all time classic responses from a dingbat pattaya restauranteur. I would have told the guy to shove it as you are right there should have been fresh basil leaves on top of the pizza!

I did not buy the response and that feeling was clearly communicated. Say no more. coffee1.gif

I make you right and the restaurant wrong.

I may try it sometime but it is off putting when what IMO is a genuine comment/ complaint gets brushed aside.

  17. I`ve got to ask how much you regard as " expensive" ?

Where I stay if you lose the card I think it is either 200 or 300 baht, don`t think that is bad, in fact think it is fair, maybe I`m wrong or you`re being quoted way higher.

    Should be higher really.

    Just curious really.

    How much for replacement ?

  18. The only thing that I have found which eliminates the ants are ARS ANT KILLER traps. They are sold in all of the supermarkets.

A photo of the package you will be looking for can be found at http://www.amazon.com/ARS-Killer-Bait-Eradicate-Ants/dp/B008MLAF7C

Spread them around anywhere where you have seen ants and in 24 hours, the ants are gone.

Are they sold in supermarkets in Thailand, or do I have to get them from Amazon? If the latter, Amazon may not ship to Thailand.

I buy them at Best Supermarket at Dolphin Circle, but I would imagine that Foodland, Big C, perhaps even HomePro and HomeWorks will sell them.

    WaywardWind

Thanks for mentioning ARS ant killer, I`ll buy some time time I`m at Best, don`t get many ants but a few so should help.

    Cheers.
