  1. I can understand you being annoyed, that`s natural.

I`d have to agree with GuestHouse post as being the best attitude to take, even if not easy and I`d be tempted to take the new air con that you have bought but maybe not worth the potential problem/expense.

Just look forward to enjoying your new home when you move.

  2. ok sorry if this has been mentioned before and it's not often I post here but I thought it was worth the effort to give a heads up about a food spot that in my opinion deserves a mention here

Limited menu which is not a bad thing, has superb fish and chips (best I've had in Pattaya in 9 years) other dishes including an absolutely astounding creamy chicken dish (sorry can't remember the name but easy to spot)

The guy that owns it (Liam) has been a chef all his life and obviously takes pride in what he does, he has worked in some top hotels here in Pattaya and decided to branch out on his own, he's got his business model right in my opinion - extremely good food but not at silly prices, a fish supper will cost you 100baht so work it out for yourself

I am in no way connected to this guy or his business but the food is terrific which is why I felt the need to mention it here

OK how stupid is this - I have never looked at the name but if you want to try it out it is on Soi New Plaza right opposite Janes bar if looking to the sea on the right, give it a try especially if you're on your way home and fancy some grub as at the moment he's open late - maybe 2am

Don't miss this gem - I've tried to talk him into doing deliveries so that might be a possibility going forward

    regards

    Hi

I was very near there today so recalling your post thought I`d give it a try, had the 100 baht fish & chips,, which they brought to a nearby bar I was in.

Food fine IMO, friendly owner and staff.

The name of the place is Fryday/s, open from 2.00 PM - 2.00 AM according to the sign.

I`d use it again and thanks for mentioning it.

  3. As others have suggested I would also conclude the 2nd injection was for rabies, which would account for the follow up injections.

For some peace of mind and even though it might not be what you feel like doing, any thoughts as to seeing if you can get the dog that bit your son tested? or at least looked at, whilst of course ensuring the course of injections is completed.

Not for the dog`s benefit, just your own and that of your son.

  4. I live in Pattaya( naklua) find it is generally convenient for many things, has plenty of faults also.

I`ve visited a fair few other places in Thailand, enjoyed them as well and no I wouldn`t judge Thailand just by Pattaya " standards".

Planning on seeing more of the rest of Thailand as well, when the time is right.smile.png

  5.

I like Rasoi Indian restaurant, near where Thappraya Rd. and Second Rd. intersect.  If you are going from Jomtien to Pattaya down Thappraya Rd., just after the overpass,  turn right on second road and you should see Rasoi on the right side (think it is across from a Family Mart on the opposite side of the road).  It has a/c and good food.  They are not stingy in terms of how much you get.  Vegetarian thale is good..........palak paneer..........nan.....I have never been disappointed.  Fairly friendly staff too.

Agree 100%. I have been going there since they opened, at least once a week (just went last night). The Thali plate is great, and only 180 baht, with coke get out of there for 200. Generous portions and all I could want in Indian food. Just maybe 50 meters away from Nova Platinum Hotel . There is a Family Mart across street, but there are lots of FMs.  Address is 385/5 Moo 10 Pratumnak Road (according to business card). I like to sit outside and watch the near misses on the road, but does have a/c. It is my favorite place to eat in Pattaya.

Thanks both of you, had never heard of it, will give it a try sometime.

if anyone knows approx what time they close ( or last orders time) I`d appreciate it.

    I tend to eat late.

  6. There is a shop on soi 12 naklua that has a sign stating Notary Public.( amongst other things )

About 5 minutes from the Dolphin roundabout( if driving/riding) soi 12 will be on your left hand side

They are about 5 shops up on the right hand side as you enter the soi, very near a motorbike rental shop.

I`ve never used them and don`t know them, just happened to notice the sign.smile.png

  7. Just another photo op and the other paper shows her and Banham wading through flood water, not too deep of course.

Although Yl has instructed this and that there is no suggestion the residents were given any explainations far less an apology for the government's failures and mis-leading comments especially those by YL herslef.

What a public spirited gesture by that old crawler Banham who voluntered to take care of Prachin Buri if YL was too busy ! He's trying to look good locally because his party has MPs from that province and of course YL will be too busy, after all she has all those parliamentary sessions and committees to attend and there must be another overseas trip due anytime.

You know what's really disgusting is the fact that these two are laughing and smiling in the camera. That's just a dispising disgraceful act towards the people who are suffering from the floods. They are laughing their behinds off.

I thought exactly the same when I saw the photo before reading any posts.

  8. I`ve only just come across this thread, same thing was happening to me, redirect to forex.com and then the cheaper car insurance site.

It only happened when I tried to access Bloomberg and barchart, the latter is US based also I think.

Drove me nuts, seems to be all OK now, just tried the previously affected sites.

No understanding of these things, wish I had read here earlier.

  9. You`ve had some bad luck of late, hope it`s all gone now ( the bad luck) and the dengue clears up soon.

It sounds horrible, I`ve been lucky so far, never had it.

Interesting I also prefer being unfussed over if ill, just rest/sleep/drink liquids and take any appropriate medicine.

Your posts almost always entertainingcoffee1.gif , shame about the circumstances for some of the last few.

    Chin up, get well soon.smile.png

  10. or fly to Satuk (Buriram) as that's only about an hours drive to Surin.

Thanks, tried that, flights for my dates sold out, rang Nok Air, left it too late for that.

    It would have been ideal.

    I hadn`t realised that was an option..my fault.sad.png

  11. Hello

I need to go to Surin early next week, planning to fly in to Ubon from BKK, likely morning arrival, just after 7.00AM, 2nd arrival time option would be about lunch time , just after 12.05 .

Could anyone please advise as to approximate travel time and cost for the onward journey to Surin ?

    train, bus or taxi ?

I have never been to Ubon, was thinking of spending just 1 night there on the return journey so 2nd question is any recommendation for a cheapish place to stay, say 500-700 baht, only need somewhere clean and preferably near a few places to go for something to eat in the evening, maybe a beer also.Anywhere central ? Guesthouse type place fine.

    Appreciate any useful replies.

Have had a search but time is a bit pushed to find information

    Thank Yousmile.png

  12. To Tiger7Moth

I would guess by classifieds here he means this :

    http://classifieds.thaivisa.com/ads/search/1/categ_id/23/currency/5/county/11/ord/price/sens/asc/

You could place an advert looking for a part time cook/shopper ? Might find someone, worth a try.

PM Online, I don`t know either

You could also try putting in a postcard sized advert in the Best supermarket( at the Dolphin roundabout) notice board, there is a small charge for this I believe, response might not me much though, if at all.

Good Luck, hope you get sorted.smile.png

  13. The most convenient airport would be Vientiane but when I looked at prices it was considerably more than flying to Udon Thani which I believe would be the next nearest and is how I went, sorry forgotten how long Udon to Vientiane took.

If crossing by land in to Laos you can get a visa there, it took me about 20 minutes, cost was I believe US$ 35.

Taxis waiting on the Laos side to take you in to town or the consulate, wasn`t expensive, buses also but would be slower and not sure where they head to.

Khop Chai Deu I`d second that as an OK place to visit if you have some time in the evening.

Forgotten application and collection times at the Consulate.

  14. Hi

I know nothing about the place but was handed a leaflet for Pongtep Gym in naklua near Moom Aroi restaurant., they teach Tae Kwon Do.

A couple of instructors with their pupils were handing out the leaflets.

    Classes Saturdays and Sundays.

One thing that struck me was how polite they all were, including the youngsters.

I`ve got phone numbers if of use, not sure if OK to post the phone numbers ?

  15. I am trying to plan a date to visit there not during Songkran.

    Thanks

    Hi

    I don`t blame you.

For the last 3 or 4 years there has been early starting of it in some parts of central Pattaya from as early as the 10th.

I`d suggest avoiding 10th to 19 th, with as already said it finishing on that last night of the 19 th.

  16. I live in the Wong Amat area and True is supplied to the apartment building I live in.

Whether it is down to True or merely the installation here I wouldn`t know but it is not very reliable and sometimes seems to take a long while to get an engineer out.

Thanks for mentioning AIS air net, had never heard of it to be honest, may look in to that.

Have an AIS 3 G air card I use as back up which seems reasonable, slow but does mostly stay connected.

  17. With regards to the last poster but 1.I live in Vietnam and have done so for 3+ years, before that we lived in Thailand 4+ years and Cambodia 1+ year.In my view Vietnam is catching up rapidly with Thailand in respect of infrastructure and amenities, and in a few years will be far ahead.it's hardly surprising that in the 60's,after years of war,the country was in a poor state, but, wherever you go now, there are road improvements, new bridges, ports and airports,as well as golf courses, marina's,hotels and condo developments .I think Vietnam now has 9 International airports.Tourism has started to take off,it's much cheaper in Vietnam for hotels and entertainment, and there are some exceptionally beautiful areas of the country. There are some downsides-English is not widely spoken outside the major tourist sites, and Vietnamese people can sometimes be rather abrupt, but generally speaking it is by far the best of the three countries we have lived in,taking everything into account.Well worth visiting

    Hi

    Thanks for your useful posts.

I live in Thailand, have never been to Vietnam and looking on line was considering Da Nang for a 5 or 6 day visit next January.

    Have you been there?

If it is suitable for some day time sightseeing then out in the evening for a nice meal( preferably international/continental ) followed by a beer or two, I`d likely be more than happy.

Difficult question I know but if you`ve been would appreciate your thoughts.smile.png

  18. Why is the name of the bus company always missing from these "news" stories? Seems like that is pretty important info, especially when choosing which bus company to travel with.

The answer my friend is you avoid all of them. I like many on here are sick of seeing a reading this everyday.

I sold my car some time back now so when it comes to the 90 day visa trip I hire a car.

I rent a car which always is very nice car for a 24hr period for 1500 baht. I even put my motorbike on the ferry and ride to Suratthani to avoid ever being on a bus. I can also arrange car to be delivered to the port if I wish at extra 1000 baht.

I have not traveled on a bus in over 10 years and this will remain the case for as long as I am in Thailand. (Which at present I am not)

I tried to do a campaign to alert travelers of the dangers of buses to put them in the picture of how many were killed on the roads in Thailand. Of course nobody who I try to enlighten has a clue that the figures are what they are,and also if you have done your homework the figures of 27,000 Is alarming, but unfortunately those figures are only the half of it.

I did several in depth searches and found that the number published is only the dead at scene. In this tragic case above it states 1 dead,if any of those 25 injured die it will not show in the stats.

You also then have to take into account that approximately 50% of the drivers do not have any licence or insurance,so if the deceased at scene has no insurance it also does not count. The more realistic figure is 87,000 killed on the roads in Thailand.

Of course this means that in general Thai roads are a disgrace and should be avoided at all costs, but this is simply unavoidable not to ever use the roads whilst either living in Thailand or here just for vacation but I prefer to know that I am in control of my vehicle myself, and will take my own risk and not put into the hands of a Yaba Drug crazed Thai driver who don't give a monkeys to his passengers lives.

I gave up my campaign because the people I was trying to educate and maybe save their lives looked at me as being depressive when I would mention that another bus has crashed and X amount of people have been killed. The only news they wanted to hear was "Whats the weather going to be like"

I gave up.... Simple as that, getting told I am depressive from so many people got to me and I thought you know what <deleted> it!! You try to be helpful and the only thanks you get is people talking behind your back saying here he goes again.

But I am sure you have all (you tubed) what goes on in Russia!!! Now that's a place I don't even fancy walking as a pedestrian never mind driving... If you have not viewed what goes on then you should they simply have not got a clue and makes Thailand look pretty normal.

Long post but I did actually read it all.

If you feel passionately about something, keep on posting.

You`ve put your viewpoint across well enough and I agree with most of what you say, no idea on Russia.

Doubt you`ll get any thanks but you might make some people think about how they travel.

    Nothing wrong with that.

    IMO.

  19. So crime of the century, i would happier if they cleaned up some more important issues

    I agree with you.

I have never been on overstay here, not even 1 day.

I make the effort to comply with the law/rules but a few people overstaying doesn`t trouble me.

If they`ve fallen on hard times, maybe that is their only choice

Serial over stayers/scammers etc., a different matter.

Someone could be here legally and be a " bad " person or someone could be here illegally and be otherwise OK.

Thai rules and they should be observed but yes, not crime of the century.

More important issues need sorting out as you say but perhaps that doesn`t make for such a good headline as" bad" foreigners staying here too long/illegally.

  20. Had email from hull last night,£20000 in my Lloyds e-savers account ,was not good enough, for multientry O visa (I am over 50), I have had this money in this account for the last 5 years and have had a O visa for the last 5 years,I have had to transfer money into my current account .....now, not sure if I will get visa as they may say it has to have been in account 3 months ....<deleted>...

    Hi

I am sorry to hear you may have difficulty but am grateful for you posting.

I will be in a very similar position(more than sufficient money in an esaver account) but at least have time on my hands, won`t need another multi O until next year.

I can understand your frustration, it should really make no difference whether the money is in an instant access esaver account or a current account.

    Good Luck
