SURVEY: What are your biggest issues in Thailand?
Toscano replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
For me and I believe many Ex Pat retirees living in Thailand , it is the need to apply for visa extension every year and report every 90 days . I'm British , before coming to live in Thailand I lived in Italy . After the first 3 months one has to apply for residency , if granted one is given 5 years before reporting again to extend . All being well one will be granted permission to stay in perpetuity . It is a pity the same doesn't apply in Thailand .- 249 replies

" It Takes Two To Tango " ! It is easy to criticize men as not being good performers , not pressing the right buttons . I am elderly now , but in younger years have enjoyed very good sex and intensely loving relations with my former American wife , English and Italian lovers , all of whom were sexually passionate . I am married to a beautiful educated Thai , now middle aged and retired former head teacher . We have been together 18 years and have a loving relationship on a practical day to day basis . In younger years our sex life was OK , but one sided , without any hot desire on the part of my wife . I am of the opinion that to many Thai women sex is just a function like going to the toilet , quick quick I must take shower to clean up afterwards .

Thai government maintains “neutral” position in Ukraine-Russia conflict

It would appear that any stranger could also enter the property ,if the dog is loose at home , clearly it is a guard dog and not a pet , people should NOT be able to enter without prior request of the owners . The owners of this Pit Bull should realize they will risk serious prosecution if a member of the public gets savaged .

I am changing my name: impact on title deed
Toscano replied to alyx's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
I cannot see the significance of the name change relative to the land registry office . As I understand foreigners are not allowed to own land , so purchase of land would be only in your wife's name . -

Moving to Thailand - is bringing furniture etc worth the hassle?
Toscano replied to SunshineSeeker's topic in General Topics
I would not recommend bringing antique furniture to Thailand , because the heat and climatic conditions ruin the joints . To bring a lot of household furniture would be very expensive and antique furniture of style inappropriate in Thailand . In Thailand you need far less furniture than in one's own country . There are some very good furniture shops and workshops that make beautiful sofas and chairs and classic wooden furniture of every kind at not vast expense . I brought only my artists studio easel , books , video tapes and dvds , lightweight clothing and flat bed sheets . Domestic appliances such as fridges and washing machines are best bought in Thailand . -
Thai govt urged to ease rules on condo transfers for foreigners

For all the Thai government urging wealthy foreigners to retire in Thailand , truth is they don't want foreigners at all , only their money brought from abroad . -
Thailand ranked among the top 6 places in the world to retire
Toscano replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Many Men retire to Thailand for all the wrong reasons . I have been living in rural Thailand for 16 years , Thailand has good points and bad points . Thailand is trying to promote itself to top end retirees , but if I were one I can think of places I'd rather be . Thailand doesn't really want foreigners retiring to Thailand , but can't wait to get its hands on their money or their make a large investment . The scrutiny of immigration lasts for as long as you stay and can be a real pain in the ass , having to report every three months . A probationary period of say five years with residency given thereafter would male us feel more welcome and secure . The warm climate is good and a low overall cost of living is good . I would advise anybody thinking to retire in Thailand to visit for several years to suss the place out . Don't get mixed up with the women , thinking to marry and settle down , they only want you for your money and some will rob you until you have nothing left . -
First , Motorcyclists are not properly trained , where I live youngsters 12 to 14 year old's race along the road past our house in a totally residential part of the village . Many motorcyclists see no need to obey the rules of the road . It is no excuse blaming the roads even it they are in bad repair , many motorcyclists are what I call Death On Two Wheels .

Thailand's healthcare system ranked among best in the world
Toscano replied to Jonathan Fairfield's topic in Thailand News
I'm British and lived in Italy before moving to Thailand . In Britain or Italy , having a good doctor is very helpful to getting the best medical services , I have been fortunate in both countries . In Thailand I'm fortunate to have health insurance that covers everything . I have had a heart attack 6 years ago and three keyhole operations at a government hospital , I had the good fortune to spend a week in intensive care , where the nursing is second to none . Prior to discharge I spent a night in a passage outside an intensely overcrowded regular ward , where desperate family members were doing the basic nursing . My regular doctor at the hospital is the same one who does the rounds in the intensive care unit , I am prescribe the very best medicines . With the danger of COVID-19 I am advised to stay away from the hospital , where outpatients is very crowded . I haven't seen my doctor since January 2021 , the hospital mails me my medicines COD at next appointment time . For minor ailments I can walk into our village hospital any time , the doctors and nurses are excellent , it has a laboratory , XRay , Pharmacy and emergency room . I hear from friends in Britain having to wait 5 days for a local doctor appointment , patients unable to have operations until months ahead . When I first came to Thailand I didn't have insurance and paid for my medicines that were not too expensive and to last three months . My recollection of Britain is that doctors can be very casual and under prescribe . -
is there a risk of (western-style) child support?
Toscano replied to BananaBandit's topic in Family and Children
If you are over 50 years of age , have a retirement visa , if you are pressed to marry a Thai woman the regular Thai village marriage will suffice , no need for an Amphur registered wedding or registering a wife at the US embassy or making her a US citizen . In the event of the relationship failing you can pack your bags and leave with no ties , don't buy a house in her name unless you can afford to give it away . If you are worried about the woman getting pregnant have a vasectomy . While you live in Thailand your are only subject to Thai law on child support . -
When my Thai father-in-law was alive and 89 yrs , he suffered from kidney failure and wouldn't eat any of the Isaan food his family prepared for him . As I stood with all the family who were tearful around his bed , I thought maybe he would eat porridge . I went home and made a bowl of porridge added honey and milk mixed well and took it to him . He ate the bowlful all at once , thereafter sometimes asking me to make porridge for him 3 times a day which I did , it helped to give him 5 more years of life . When he died I had just bought a new supply of porridge oats , so decided to eat porridge myself . I am 84 yrs young and have a big bowl of porridge for breakfast every morning , it's my favourite meal of the day .

What concerns me is the politicizing of vaccines , especially Chinese Sinovac or Russian Sputnik V ,none of the vaccines are perfect , some have had very serious side effect and people prove positive after full vaccination . I have had Sinovac followed by A Z , I had mild after effect following AZ , very deep sleep , headache and possibly mild fever . I would have chosen Sputnik V which I believe is as good as any other vaccine just to spite the Americans , who treat the whole exercise as purely a money grabber .
-
It is no good condemning the government over vaccines , all the vaccines are much of a muchness similarly effective . Pfizer , Moderna and Astra ZeniKa have serious side effect problems , what really grates with me is the politicizing of vaccines , so that Sputnik V , that seems to be as effective as any , is blocked by countries when it was readily available . Some European countries have had to wait an unnecessarily long time for desperately needed vaccine . I live in an Isaan rural Amphur village , our hospital has engaged a team of expert vaccinators . All the over 60s were summoned to be vaccinated irrespective of nationality , my wife and I will have our second shots tomorrow whether Sinovac or AstraZenika . My wife and I were not really wanting to be vaccinated , but when our local community is so well organized we would be foolish not to take up the offer . I would have preferred Sputnik V .
-
Perhaps we have been extraordinarily lucky a team of expert vaccinators came to Huaimek village hospital on Wednesday . My wife was alerted the day before that all the over 60s were to be vaccinated , there was no discrimination that I was a Falang , it was a community effort to safeguard the village people . About 220 people were vaccinated by midday , we were all vaccinated with Sinovac . I wonder whether any other communities will also have a team of vaccinators , no pre application fill in the forms there . I was sent to see a doctor to check my heart medicine , but all OK .
-
I have already had the first shot of Sinovac , the second on 1st September . I wouldn't have pfizer on principle because the US has been pressurizing countries to buy it , Europe has been really messed up by political pressures for one vaccine or another . I would have chosen Sputnik V had it been available .

Thaksin would be warmly welcomed back in Isaan , Changmai and other northern and rural regions . My recollection is that Thailand thrived economically under Thaksin governance , with good international connections . A man with a flair for business is likely to enrich himself , and Thailand prospered too . Under Thaksin , better education , improved living standards and jobs were extended to poorer rural communities . The elite in Thailand who enjoy most of the wealth and big business , rely on northern and Issan people as cheap labour to insure bigger profits . Better educated people demanding a better income is not considered in the best interest of Thailand's economy . Since the deposing of Thaksin the heart has gone out of Thailand , people have turned introspective and have lost all interest in the government and how the country is governed .

Never mind Pfizer !!! Sinovac , AstraZenika , Sputnik V , will serve just as well . I have been reading on Thaivisa that Pfizer was being reserved for foreigners , perhaps Americans resident in Thailand . I'm British 84 yrs , when my wife asked a nurse friend if I could be vaccinated along with her and her school teacher colleagues , she was told foreigners have to wait for Pfizer . We live at Huaimek , Kalasin . Two days ago my wife was told tomorrow there will be vaccination for the over 60s at the hospital . Yesterday my wife and I went along to the hospital , we were shocked by so many people and nearly went home again , but we stuck it out . I am of the opinion that our excellent hospital had brought in a team of expert vaccinators . My wife filled out the forms and the whole process worked so smoothly , though formerly reluctant we were both vaccinated with Sinovac and will have the second shot on 1st September . About 220 people were vaccinated by midday . I would like to think that other small village hospitals could do the same , including all their community irrespective of whether foreigners or Thai . I congratulate Huaimek hospital !!!

Ponte Agli Stolli near Figline Valdarno , about 40 minutes southeast of Florence Italy by train or car . I lived there for a number of years and made many friends . Though physically fit and very active , I'm 84 yrs and the traveling might be a much for me now , complications like travel insurance .
