1. Thai's with masters degrees are making less than 20,000 thb per month in this field or US $600 a month

You would need to have some incredible skill they don't have here to maybe get into a positioning managing a bunch of these guys if your education and skill is high enough

Realistically the chances are very low

Years ago things were different but now high paying expat jobs are like winning the lottery

For each person you find on a full expat package thousands of others are not

  2. There is a nice small cheap fishing shop near Dreamworld

I bought some really nice rod and reals for about 600 baht each (nice)

We have tons of fishing ponds all around Rangsit

After a local showed me how to make the (What I call the potato bomb bait) a fist size mixture of rice flour and something else that goes about a foot above the hook, and we use bread for bait

You can catch all kinds of fish everyone

PM me if you need any details

  3. Returning from a trip to Vientienne yesterday they are no longer offering ANY multiple entry B VISA's

The best you can hope for is a 3 month single entry

After talking to 10 expats in the visa pickup line, the story was the same for all

One expat was denied a tourist visa for the reason as having too many

Some patrons needing to apply for a tourist VISA showed up 20 minutes before noon on Friday to be told the VISA office was closed and they would have to come back Monday; even though posted hours were 12:00

Vientienne is extremely dusty and dirty from all the construction

The prices everywhere are skyrocketing out of control and every Tom, Dick and Harry is trying to swindle every baht or kip they can from you

  4. Without huge sums of money, these police officers cannot move up through the ranks to the top positions

Their salaries are much to small to allow this so they look for money in other illegal activities already mentioned

There is no such thing as a merit system for the good honest police doing a good honest job

They are swept aside when the reshuffles come up for those officers with lots of money

Money is power in Thailand

Not just the police, in any field

Why is every single politician in Thailand a multi-millionaire?

Same reason

Without money you are nothing and have no chance at honest success.

To make money you have to have the power to control illegal activities which it seems is where these people get the bulk of their wealth

  5. big golfing developments

What is your definition of big golfing developments?

Golf in Thailand is extremely well developed, hosting major mens and womens tournaments each year

A few Thai players are in the top ranks of the European PGA and play in the USA PGA

    Many women stars are well

There are 1000's of golf academies, junior tournaments etc trying to replicate the next Tiger Woods whose mother was from Thailand

There are an abundance of excellent golf courses all over Thailand

I fail to see how a long distance driving tournament could bring anything to a maturely established golf industry?

Maybe as a pre-event to a professional tournament?

    As a potential sponsor?

    Hard to say.

You need to do your homework, I am sure all the facts you need for the Thailand Golf Industry are on the internet

  6. A long line in indicative of a process that does not work.

The process does not work because someone has not used the prior years of hosting this event to fix the same faults from the previous years

Just hosting an event is not being responsible to the patrons

They all deserve a happy and stress free day for the money they are paying

  7. Friend the Thailand that you are describing has long been gone

    I came here in 1984

I remember a much different country

Phangan, not a week goes by you do not read about some foreigner arrested for drugs

There is trashed dumped along the roads everywhere

It is over commercialized and every single person is looking to make a buck

For a family it is not the place to go AT ALL

Try Koh Chang on the East Side of Island

You can still find what you are describing

There is no development at all on the east side of Koh Chang

Last week the beaches were empty even on the developed side

  8. There is always 1000 opinions about work permits and the law

Thai Airways regularly has engineers or specialists come from the USA and the UK to work on the aircraft at Suvarnabhumi Airport

GE, Rolls Royce, Pratt and Whitney are a few of the companies that send support here almost every single month or anytime a specialist is needed

They do not have work permits or get work permits

They get security level 6 pass at the airport which is the highest level to come and go as they need

So there must be some other cases where a WP is not required?

  9. Rates have recently risen and I was told will rise at a rate of 5% per year for quite a few years to come

My electric bill in my home is always over 4000 baht and going up

There is an easy way to visualize what is drawing the most electric

First of all shut off your main circuit breaker box and you should not be using any electricity

Then turn on the breakers one at a time and watch which one spins the meter the most

For me Air Con # 1, clothers dryer close # 2, 50" Flat screen TV is 3, water pump 4, washer machine 5, PC with 24" flat screen 6

Something along this order when I test recently

About 3 months ago, additional charges were started to be added if you use over a certain amount per month from what was previously used for me the additional charges are adding 1200 to 1500 to the bill each month

Single stand alone 3 bedroom house

  10. It seems all the new people are the first ones to jump on the I am going to buy a condo here in Thailand

If you do your research you will change your mind

This subject has been beat to death over the years

However condo owners not maintaining the buildings, glutton of new condos every year and the fact that most thais do not buy used housing means you have no investment at all

The other thing worth anything here is land

You would be 100 times better off buying a house in you need a place to live with land than a condo

The condo won't help your case one bit

  11. The Sofitel Hua Hin has it's own nice beach

I do not know when you plan on going but I just called for room for July 10 and most places with give 40% discount off internet rates because the hotels are all empty

You can make your own deal

The other thing is once you get to Hua Hin look around

There is such a vacancy you wont have any problems getting a room anywere

Holiday Inn Cha Am is nice as well, only about 12km from Hua Hin

  12. Agree Wii is the one for kids. Huge availabibility of games in Thalind from 60 baht each

My son has 250+ games and the house has become afterschool neighborhood play center

    Thai kids love this

    Wii Sports is great

PS3 cannot get copied games for

  13. A Condo is the worst possible investment you can make in Thailand

You are much better off to move just to the outskirts of Bangkok and buy a 3 bedroom house where you own the land.

I can be to downtown Bangkok in 30 minutes.

3 bedroom house in my Moo Ban with gated security if you want to rent are only 10,000 to 12,000 a month

This is a home with a garden yard, trees, driveway etc.

The problem with the condo is when the owners of the building decide to do a less than stellar job taking care of the building your investment becomes worthless

That and a glutton of condo's on the market and the fact that Thais rarely ever buy used housing
