Please no TROLLING on this post.....
My Filipina girlfriend who is a teacher at a government school in Samut Prakan has started her maternity leave today. She has a work permit and Non B visa. The school are refusing to pay her Maternity pay, even though the law states In Thailand, an expecting mother is protected under the Labour Protection Act of 1998. Women employees are entitled to the following:
- 90 days of maternity leave
- Full pay: 45 days from the employer and 45 days from the Social Welfare Fund
http://thailand.angloinfo.com/healthcare/pregnancy-birth/maternity-leave/
We have called the Social Security helpline who advised to call the Ministry of Labor, we called the ministry of labor who advised us to call the ministry of education, we called the ministry of education who gave another number saying it is a representative in Samut Prakan, we called the number but they cannot speak English and hung up the call.
Who can we contact as we are being given the run-around.
Thanks

As mentioned it was just an observation, seeing a farang working in a food court is something you don't see on a daily basis...in fact its the first time in the 7 years I have lived here.

Whilst at immigration the other day I went to the food court for lunch, as I walked around the small food stalls I passed one stall with a farang cooking and also serving the Thai immigration staff.
How can he get a visa and work permit for this?

At the end of August I went to Laos and got a 3 month Ed Visa, I have to report on the 25th November to Chaeng Whatthana to extend. My passport needed to be renewed which is currently underway in the UK. What documents do I need (UK Embassy etc) to take to immigration to transfer tge Ed visa to my new passport?

PCM means per calendar month, and yes have been offered a commission only job in Thailand with a financial company in the Asoke area, they said the job comes with non b visa and work permit but its worrying as they only pay commission (not sure if allowed to say company name so you can Google financial company asoke exchange tower)
-
How do companies like financial advising organisations get away with only paying commission to their foreign employees? The law states it is 50,000 pcm for a British national.

In regards to having to produce your passport after the 29th, what about people that have or will be applying for a new passport from the UK? The process currently takes about 6 weeks and we will be without a passport for that period!!! An original passport must be produced....THIS IS GOING TO BE INTERESTING!

Samran I agree that the majority of people in Asia don't give a toss, this was never about that, as stated in my original post this was about my personal belief....
-
This thread was about my dislike at the way animals were slaughtered under halal and supermarkets stocking halal products as a majority product. I have been called a bigot and other interesting things. I don't want to buy halal, simple. Now let me ask this, if halal products were removed from the shelves to cater to the non halal (majority) group, would the Muslim community accept this and buy non halal foods or would they complain? And if they complained at being forced to buy non halal products, would they be called bigots?
-
This is a personal belief of mine and not meant to cause offence, but if it does...well go read another thread!!!
I have been shopping at Tesco for a number of years here in Thailand, and over the past few months have noticed more and more products having the "Halal" logo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halal). When I say more and more products, what I mean is so F***ing many!!!!
Halal...foods that are permissible for Muslims to eat or drink under Islamic Shariʻah.
I am a meat lover and respect the humane way animals are slaughtered in the west (https://www.gov.uk/farm-animal-welfare-at-slaughter), and I am not sure how many of you know the way animals are slaughtered under the Halal process (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAQJ-FZo1cA) WARNING...THIS IS DISTRESSING TO WATCH...
My question, why is Tesco and other supermarkets selling the majority of their products under Halal? is Thailand a Muslim country now?!?!.....why am I being forced to buy foods, drinks etc that are processed in a way I do not agree with and is only relevant for Muslims?!!!
An extract which is disturbing..... According to Islamic law, sex is permissible and limited to between those who are married, between a man and his female wife and between a man and a female captive in wars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halal)
I dont expect you all to agree with my view, and I know some will be thinking just shop somewhere else... the trouble is most supermarkets are selling Halal products which makes it difficult to find products that are not Halal....

I went in person and confirmed the information very carefully....the language school is:
-
<script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>
OP are you *sure* that you have to do the language test at MOE every 90 days?? I have never heard of this and have my 90 day extension tomorrow at Chang Wattana and my school haven't mentioned it and tbh the logistics of setting this up would be ridiculous....
Just passing on the information I was told today by the language school....am searching for it online....
-
Hi all, just thought I would pass on the following information which I was told today by a language school in Asoke.
I have decided to go down the Ed Visa route, the school I will be attending in Asoke advised that from July 1st the rules changed (apologies if already covered). It is now a lot more difficult to obtain an ed visa, and even more difficult renewing it every 90 days. From 1st July, each student on an Ed Visa must visit the MOE (Ministry of Education) every 3 months to undergo a Thai language (reading, writing and speaking) test. If you pass they issue authority for the next 90 days of the visa to be issued by immigration. They will also be doing random visits to language schools.

I have just gone through the whole process to become the legal parent by Thai law to my 2 children. I am not married and have been with my long term Thai partner for about 9 years.
I contacted an International law firm in Bangkok to ask how much the process would cost me going through the court system, I was quoted around 85,000 baht for each child (not including additional fees for correspondence ect...) absolutely outrageous amount. So I decided to visit a few local law firms in my town, the first one had never done the process before so I moved onto the second law firm. They spoke limited English but that was not a problem as my Thai girlfriend translated anything myself or the lawyer could not understand. He quoted 20,000 baht for both children (10,000 baht per child). That was the price for everything from start to finish, no hidden charges.
The first step was for the lawyer to contact the local juvinille/family court where we had a meeting arranged to meet with the equivilant of a welfare/social worker. Myself, my girlfriend and my children had to attend along with my girlfriends mother. First my girlfriend and I were interviewed, they asked what employment I did in my home country, yearly income, how long I had been with my girlfriend ect ect.....they asked my children informally if I was their dad and a few other questions. After that my girlfriends mother who had been waiting outside was interviewed alone and was asked similar questions to what my girlfriend and I was asked. Everything matched up so that was fine. All in all we were there for about 2 hours in total.
Next we were given a court date which was about a month away. My girlfriend, children and I along with a close friend of my girlfriend who could vouch for us that we were telling the truth to the court attended court with my lawyer. The judge asked me around 20 questions relating to my income in my home country, where my children were born, dates of birth ect ect....no akward questions, asked my girlfriend the same questions and then her friend and that was it. About 3 weeks later the clerk of the court phoned my girlfriend to say the judged had approved and signed the relevant paper work and we collected it.
Last thing, with paper work signed by the judge in hand we went to our local amphur office, presented it to the lady at the desk, in less than 2 hours they had changed my son and daughters names by law to my surname on their birth certificates and various other bits of paper and I am now the recognized legal father of my 2 children by Thai law.
(P.S. my son who had just turned 7 years old AFTER the court case even got his first Thai I.D. card with my surname all in the same afternoon). The local amphur were very efficient and friendly. The whole process was painless and took about 2 months from start to finish.
Could you PM me the lawyer details please...many thanks

There have been reports on this forum of it costing as little as 15,000 baht to get your parenthood legitimized by way of a Thai court.
You should have a look at this topic. http://www.thaivisa....ts-as-a-father/
My lawyer has quoted me a substantial amount...i called a few other lawyers who all quoted even higher than mine...I am not Thai so dont know the process involved or the paperwork needed..... Do you have any links for the costs of 15,000 as unable to find on the link you provided.
-
If you and the mother are not married then you are not classed as the legal father (http://www.thailand-family-law-center.com/thailand-paternity-rights/) and you will not be entitled to a visa on this ground (i am going through the same process)... The link explains the process you need to follow....the cost....anything up to 150,000 baht...

I am in this exact situation now (lost job in Feb) and currently on a double entry Tourist visa which will come to an end at the end of August, I will then go back to Laos for my next (hopefully) double entry....

I asked my sons (he is 5) school to stop making him sleep as he cannot sleep until at least 10pm every night, they said it is Legislation for pre school children and he must lie down....so this is a government policy.
-
This is simply disgusting and must be dealt with immediately. Report to the school head, the police and also the education minister.
If this happened to my son then I would inflict the same punishment to the teacher just 100 times worse!

I hope you have known this lady for a couple of years, be very careful as a lot of Thai ladies are professional scammers. I agree with previous posts, buy a condo in your name, don't be another "bought girlfriend a house then she left me" TV poster!!!

Urgent Advice Needed

Well the latest on this is the school told my girlfriend that they do not receive funding from the Government for an English teacher, the money comes from the parents of the students. They said they have had to employ another teacher (who is THAI) to now teach English and use the money to pay her, because of this they have no money to pay the 45 day maternity pay... DOL not really interested, nor social security or ministry of education....Any advice on who we can approach now?
