1. Thanks for the replies guys, I asked because I did not know if the rule was different for teachers here. My girlfriend called the SS office yesterday who said they would call the school today to talk to them.

To be honest we feel the school are trying to force my girlfriend to quit because she is pregnant. They have started by making her teach up to 62 (yes 62) grade 1 children in her class, which is outrageous. They refuse and make her pay her own work permit and visa, also refuse to pay the SS stating that she has to pay full amount. I told my girlfriend to fight them all the way, then leave after she wins...

  2. My Filipina girlfriend works for a government school in Samut Prakan, teaching grade 1 to grade 6. The school have provided visa and work permit which they made my girlfriend pay, today they have told her that they will not pay the social security fee and that she has to pay it. Please advise if this is correct. Thanks

I'm just wondering, what nationality does your child have? Do children born in Thailand become Thai nationals at birth if requested, or must one or even both parents be Thai?

I don't know, I'm all for tight immigration policies but children are innocent and do not choose where they are born and you can hardly be expected to be forced to give up taking care of him because of visa regulations.

Can anyone shed any light on the matter?

My son is Singaporean....at the time we were asked if we wanted him to be registered as a Thai citizen but my ex wanted him registered as a Singaporean.. it is very frustrating for me as leaving Thailand is not really an option at this time, my son visits his mum in hospital every weekend which is good for both of them, it helps her cope with her treatment.... there has to be something because if immigration dig their heels in and refuse entry, firstly how devastating for my son to not only be without his mum but also his father and secondly my girlfriend would have to stop working to look after my son, which might mean her losing her visa status....

  4. Hi all, I have posted this on the visa forum and also on ask the lawyer...looking for as much help/advice as i can get...

I have lived in Thailand for over 6 years and have been working legally since arriving. I lost my job at the end of February this year and had to change my visa status from Non B to tourist (i got a double entry from Laos). Also finding a new job is proving very difficult. I receive money from pensions i receive from the UK (about 20,000 baht per month), I am 43 years old.

The reason I stay in Thailand is I have a 5 year old son here (he was born here). My ex who is Singaporean (we were never married) has stage 2 cervical cancer and undergoing treatment (she lives here with her family), my son lives with me. He goes to school here and has never been out of the country.

My current girlfriend (who is from the Philippines and working here) and I are expecting a baby in December, we are registered at Sukhumvit hospital.

With the upcoming immigration changes, what am I able to do? Is there a visa I can apply for that can allow me to stay without this worry?

    Many thanks

  7. Yesterday I went to withdraw some money from my UK bank at an SCB ATM and saw the charge has gone up from 150 baht to 180 baht. I went to another banks ATM and was greeted with the same amount.

I am not sure when this fee was increased and I did not see any notice from the banks etc....

Anyone have any ideas of the best and cheapest way to withdraw money from overseas?

  8. Reporting anybody for anything in Thailand is often an exercise in futility and would definitely be so in this case.

The bit about charging you for receipt of SMS puzzles me, though. Like everyone else I get tons of spam SMSes but never been charged for them. What sort of plan do you have with AIS? And do you delete the spam messages without opening them?

I have a basic post paid package (200 baht for 200 minutes of calls), have attached a picture of the charges. and yes i delete the message without opening.

  9. Luckily I have never been in this position so it is difficult to know how to react if it did happen. My Thai girlfriend has just changed her first and last name as a fortune teller told her to be a successful artist she must change it as her old name was not right for her!!! Naturally my internal reaction was <deleted>!!!!! but my girlfriend truly believes it so I had to respect her decision...She is not crazy, just has very a strong belief in this, which a lot of people in Thailand do!

Now for your situation, there are a few things you can try:

1: Ask someone to dress as a Monk and go see your wife telling her yes it is a test and now the test is to get the money back!!!

2: Tell your wife you want to also meet the man because you feel it is the right thing to do as you want to see if you have any connection to her past (if she can arrange it make sure you have a few local Thai friends when he shows up, then, well, the rest is up to you)

3: Your wife has the guys account number, name and bank details, give this to the police. I am not sure if they can help but might be worth a try!!!

Through all of this you must give support to your wife (as difficult as that may be at times), because when she finally accepts she has been conned then she will need your support more than ever!!

I do not think your wife is crazy, she does not need a psych evaluation..this is her strong belief that was manipulated for gain...Karma will happen..

    Best of luck

  10. Bangkok -> Samut Sakhon -> Samut Songkhram -> Petchaburi -> Cha-Am -> Hua Hin -> Pranburi

Are you driving ? If so then there's really only one way.

Head out of Bangkok onto the '35' road, continue past Samut Sakhon and Samun Songkhram then turn left onto the Phetkasem road at the big junction and head south. This road takes you through or through Petchaburi, Cha-Am and Hua Hin on the way to Pranburi which is not far past Hua Hin.

Check out google maps - there's not many big national roads so the chances of getting lost are quite limited once you're pointed in the right direction.

Thanks but sadly no car, have to rely on public transport but have never been there before so need advice.

  11. I had it a couple of years ago, had to be admitted for 4 days to hospital. had to drink so much water and eat only white foods so they could monitor for internal bleeding. Definitely something I don't want again as recovery period for me was 2 weeks, no energy at all...and as previous posts mentioned a definite way to lose weight, albeit a horrible one!!!

    Hope you don't have it.

  12. Coming from the UK, which NOW probably has one of the most diverse cultures in the world, our children are taught different cultures and how they are celebrated. I think this is good from an education point as it opens the young mind to more than just one mindset. Letting a child experience another cultures way, for a few moments, can only stimulate and empower. As long as respect is always in the mind of the one's overseeing this then a good and much needed idea.
