1. They are doing them the same day that you apply. You have to be at consulate before 11 am to make the application. And then pick it up a 3:30 pm.

This has been discussed on another Savannakhet topic.

Thanks Joe, couldn't see the topic on tvisa, did look, since you are well informed maybe you know...............the consulate I presume will shut on Monday 11th the recently confirmed Thai holiday, of course the 12th closed, however I believe that the 13th is also a Laos public holiday so I guess the consulate will be closed then as well.....................so for myself and others needing to go next week it seems its not possible until Thursday the 14th.However cant confirm this from the consulate website.

Just found another thread dated 27/6 where a member has contacted the consulate who have confirmed opening on the 11th and 13th so IF? this info remains current along with the new same day service that's a great help!!!

I did return today from Savannakhet. Did get a Non-Imm-O (Marriage) multi 1 year without any questions, easy and relaxed at all.

Didn't leave Thailand since 3 years, did make extensions in the past.

I did arrive 26.06 little bit late at 10:10 am at Savannakhet Consulate, no other customer only me showed up because of the late time. The consulate stuff checked my documents within 3 minutes, I was asked to pay 5,000 THB and they told me to come back the same day at 03:30 pm which was a surprise because I expected next day. I did receive my passport and visa at 03:30 pm and everything is fine.

AirAsia and the bus service from Nakon Phanom to Mukdahan worked fine.

Thanks to all for the info supported in this forum.

Thanks for this update, I go there next week on the 12th of August witch is the Queen of Thailand birthday so the Thai Embassy will be closed, hope I can apply next day and get my visa the same day so I only need to sleep there one night.

I read on another forum that a guy had been last month and the consulate were offering pick up for visas at 3-30pm for applications submitted on the same morning believe it was on <URL Automatically Removed>,a same day service, cant find any further confirmation of this on the net, also would presume they will be closed on the Monday 11th August as well as the 12 th in line with Thailand and are yet to move to the new building?

4. A 90 day visa entry dos not need to be cancelled, it remains valid if one stops working. Only an extension of stay needs to be cancelled.

Thanks for that Mario, so when this future scenario possibly unfolds for me in a few months I can simply leave anywhere anytime within the validity of the 90 days B visa and don't need to cancel it even if I quit or am fired after 1 week of the 90 days validity and can remain in country for its validity even if no longer employed!

That would be ideal.

5. So... If you say OK had enough of Thailand! And you decide to leave tomorrow - you are NOT allowed...???

I was at Mukdahan immigration a couple of months back with a non b extended visa which I assumed was automatically cancelled on departure, wrong wrong had not been informed by my company visa dept it needed to be cancelled before exit...............so had a fit with the first official who suggested I return 5 hours to my home town............then to a supervisor who confirmed the same.......................... so I went into meltdown and was escorted to the head of immigration and I put this very question to him.

If I was at the airport now awaiting a flight home would you refuse to allow me to exit the country and on what grounds? working on the correct visa but not cancelling it?

No he said and.he took the point and was very amicable and after a promise of an email from the company the next day, a cancellation stamp was put in the passport and back to the border to exit! same lady simply refuses me again..................then.buggers off, 15 mins later finally comes back and with an angry mob fuming in the line behind me I am stamped out of Thailand!

So at an airport you,ll likely be ok but at the land crossings when they probably rightly assume you,ll be quickly back, guess it becomes a drama!

Finally a question for the resident experts, if you are on a non B visa of 3months NOT yet extended at immigration, would you need to cancel that first before exit at a land border?

6. Have been working for an agency in a goverment school, employed by the agency and contract with the agency for the specific school , initial non-B visa was issued with all the paperwork from the school and my work permit has the schools name as employer.

10 months on now the agent is out of the picture and the new contract wiil be direct with the school,.

Am I correct in thinking that I can simply extend my existing work permit which has the schools name as my employer by taking my new contract from the school and health certificate to the labour office? and then take the work permit and contract to local immigration to extend the non-b for another 10months?

Or do I have to do the whole shooting match again and go get a new non-imm B fron Laos etc and new work permit etc?

Many thanks

7. In my experience Korat is the easiest place to find work and Udon the hardest with Khon Kaen somewhere in the middle. Buriram and Surin seem to advertise quite a lot. There are one or two 'decent' agencies that operate in these areas, Sine and BIFTS offer 11 month contracts with a bonus at the end.

Sine is a 10 month contract with just the first week of March paid for!!

You're ignorant. We're not typing our mobile phone models. It's done as default by the Thaivisa app.

Sent from my Nexus 5 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Thank you for your observation of my alledged ignorance, however I was asking a question if you read my post!..................... is it mandatory? clearly by your answer it is!! its an automatic part of the application, which seems totally pointless! and incredibly annoying just like.........some ...................well never mind!!

9. How do you think the other poor farmers feel? Those in the south. Those that grow other crops.

I do feel sorry for the rice farmers but they have received preferential treatment

Sent from my Nexus 4 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Sorry, but I don't see how that is relevant to the current topic. Have those farmers not been paid for their crops as well?

They get paid for their crops at the low international rate.

However, just like the farmers up North, many are still waiting for the bonus subsidy (for fertilizers) that was promised just a couple of months back. Why was this promised ? To stop them protesting and blocking the highway (sound familiar). Plus, just like their Northern counterparts, they all queued up pretty dam_n quickly when a free handout was put on the table.

Next time you highlight part of my post, highlight the whole sentence and it will change the context dramatically smile.png

My bad.

Im in need of an update on my internet forum savvy.

Well in 20th century style I,m bug##ered if I see the point of it!!

10. A couple of my colleagues have been offered teaching positions in Saudi via a middle eastern agent who has suggested they need to return their home countries to obtain the visa and medical certificates.......... but as they are located inThailand it would be so much easier if it could all be done in Bangkok.

Have any members been through this process in BKK and can offer advice?

Many thanks.

11. Assuming a single entry Tourist Visa.

If ...

• your friend has the correct documentation,
• you have submitted the correct supporting documentation and
• there are no complications with the application then, if submitted through the VFS,

the time taken seems to vary roughly from 5 - 10 business days ... including postage ... for a yes.

A no takes a lot longer ... ermm.gif

Thanks for the quick replies guys, yes genuinely enquiring for a Thai friend I am not an Aussie, but knowing both parties the no answer longer timeframe seems more likely.

12. I have an non imm o visa mult entry valid until Nov 11TH and a permission to stay stamp until 13TH Nov.

Just received my new passport back from HK and clearly need to do a border run before the 11th Nov to get my final three months entry permit with this visa.

I am in deepest Issan, can I just do a border run to Nong khai where all will be sorted on production of both old and new passports or do I need to visit my nearest immigration office in Khon Kaen first to have the stamps transferred first? whats the official requirement at the moment.

Sorry about the typos, using an air card is about the slowest connection you can get and with that moronic channel7 in the background the brain gets fuddled!!

as I said in my previous post, when it comes to the real time exchange rate, should you transfer in Australian Dollars via netbank your money will be converted to baht at the Thai end, lets say the Bangkok Bank, the rate you receive is at the going rate on the day,

Therefore, If you did your netbank transaction right now to the Bangkok Bank in Oz Dollars you would get a rate of

Bht 27.14750

if you carried out the same tranaction with HSBC you would get

Bht 25.9938

Both institutions have websites where you can check this for yourself

http://www.bangkokbank.com/Bangkok+Bank/Pe...tes/default.htm

Interesting re commonwealth bank net account, I have some funds in a colleagues account with this bank and required a couple of transfers recently,

First time 3500 aussie dollars but unfortunately sent in Thai baht and converted first, flat fee 22 dollars money went to Standard Chatered Bkk first who took 600 baht before it arrived the next day in my Kasikorn bank account who took about 300 baht..................the difference in the exchange rate used by CWB and Kasikorn bank was outrageous lost about 7000 to 8000 baht.

This time yesterday 3500 dollars sent as DO NOT CONVERT sent in Aussie dollars flat fee of 22 dollars charged to CWB account.

BUT money was sent by net bank CWB to another Aussie bank first who took ANOTHER 60 DOLLARS and then sant thte balance 3439 to my Thailand account Kasilorn bank who converted at the best TT rate this morning.

So Commenwealth Bank Net Bank have charged 82 dollars to get the money to Thailand...................f****cking outrageous!! an additional 60 dollar undisclosed fee on top of the original 22 dollars.

Really couldnt believe it and was tearing into my KK bank customer services who shut me up by sending me copies of the swift bank invoices showing the further deductions before the money reached Thailand.

Is there any recourse ??

Regards from one very angry bunny!!

Sorry to hear your story and i don't blame you at all for being irate.

Its disgusting what these !#$%^&* banks do to us, they have no morals or fair business play whatsoever. They know their overseas customers have little choice, therefor we are open fairgame to any crap they want to throw at us.

My bank now have a long list of checks that you have to tick each time you make an international transfer using net banking. If you can be bothered reading it you will see they give us no choice but to agree to all the terms, basically allowing them to use the shortest and most easiest route for them while incurring us with the maximum fee.

As you have seen, you bank has used other agents to make it easier for them, therefor the agent gets to charge whatever fee he wants, your bank still get their same extortionate fee, THEN a thai bank gets their cut (the only resonably priced one!) and then...well, everyone is happy except us. Unfortunately theres little we will ever be able to do about it.

I would think some of the fees you have incurred from the other agent have been calculated on a percentage rate instead of the flat rate of $22 per international transaction that most banks charge. Sometimes they like to charge a percentage fee on larger amounts..suprise suprise

How to beat them??

1. Maybe check that your bank only charges you the one off $24 transaction fee and dont tend to use outside agents. The ANZ seem OK in this regard.

2. As you already know, ensure the cash is sent in $AUS.

3. Maybe try to avoid sending large amounts like you did. I exchange $1000 at a time and buy more as they exchange rate goes up. It may cost a little each time, but it saves the likelihood of getting ripped off big time on a large amount. Also you might make some spare change if buying on the up, but i guess that is not applicable now.

Personally, i try to save my baht banknotes by using credit card wherever possible, at supermarkets, travel, hotels, ect.

They will still slug you 3 percent and interesting to note they NEVER disclose the exchange rate on statements..just another sign of the ba_stardry

I think it matters not, they will get you no matter what way you go.

I dont think you have any recourse as you probably already have agreed to all the conditions they've put you through anyway.

Using the ANZ TT to Kasikorn this week i recieved 29,200 baht in my account for AU$1000, so this is the best ive had for a LONG time.

On a positive note, be glad that you have exchanged now, when the rate is good. In years past we were buying baht at 22-26 to the aussie.

Thanks for the reply, It was interestingly ANZ bank who were used by CWB as the sending intermediate bank.

They charged two additional charges 25 and 35 dollars and some odd cents so an extra charge of 60 dollars on top of CWB initial 22 dollar charge,

Do you know how much ANZ charged you for your 1000 dollar transfer.??

We,re going to contact the customer lack of relations department for an explanation,..................... 60 bucks extra for ANZ plus 22 initially for CWB seems just plain crazy!

Regards angry of Issan!!

15. Thankyou all for your wonderful empathy. sympathy and practical understanding of my plight I was overwhelmed Lol *****************************

However after a border run that involved empathy and sympathy and 100%no risk of awaiting a new passport in another country, with some general kindness and talking softly to the right person I now have another 90 day stamp !!

I would like to write a full detailed trip report because its fairly informative however if anyone is really interested you can ask for details, incidently I didnt pay a satang in bribes and was even spared a charge which would have been quite legit!!

So yes I will answer my own question as seems the norm on here YES , discretion can be shown!!

All the best

16. You will not be left in nomands land, normally you would be allowed to enter the country you last visited and be processed from there.

Some countries require only 3 months or less validity. Hong Kong is one of them, so you cna travel there with no problem.

Hong Kong:

Passport required.

- Passport and/or passport replacing travel documents must be

valid for at least one month after the period of the

intended stay.

http://www.delta.com...ation/i

Seems you can get into HKK but no immediate service, potentially sit there for three weeks ass it iss all done by post

Website suggests you dont need to send your passport just a copy but app form says send in old passport.

Also asks for countersign for the photos by a professional Uk person who has known you for two years,,,,,,,,, right my doctor is here in the village in Issaan with me what a coincedence!!

Re the border run if you have exited LOS but refused entry to Cambodia or Laos and sent back to Thailand how exactly will they process you? armed police car trip all the way to the immigraation detention centre in Bkk followed by deportation or given a permit to stay agin aand a bollocking e the validity of paasport!// who knows anyone out their a clairvoyant or speaks from experience?

Thanks for the advice so far

17. Returning to the Uk would be a very expensive option for me buying new ticket there and back,.

If I send my passport off to HONG KONG or go to Bkk and they still send it to HK it could be a month to get back, leaving me without a passport just a copy and oversstaying my 90 days by maybe aa few weeks, if something happens with the boys ib brown I guess an immigration prison job aand deportation without a paasport what a mess!

If I thought I could get into HK with the validity on my passport I could fly direct and do the job all legally without overstaying but dont think will get into HKK without six months on the passport.

Have heard in a couple of forums that people have been allowed in at the BKK airport with less than six months where they are meant to be strict, had a notion that there may be a tad of leniency at a land crossing as well.............would you just be left standing in no mans land between Cambodia and Thailand if you exited Los but couldnt get into Canbodia or back into Thailand??

Yes a mess a terrible oversight on my behalf!
