Wow, those waiting times have come down. Looking like 5-6 weeks, which means we might get news before I head out.

Have been feeling relatively relaxed over things, but starting to get twitchy now. All I want or Christmas is my missus here..........!

Just looking for a bit of re-assurance I suppose. Embassys closed for another day & still no sms. They phoned my Wife twice on Tuesday, the 2nd time asking about her son & who was taking care of him. Might it be this reason that ours is taking a while longer. My wife has 2 children, 1 lives with my Wife & her mother & the other with her ex's mother & father.

Just getting a bit anxious now, I've been fine until my Wife got the calls.

Hi bryangiggs, just so you know sms's generally get sent about 10am Thailand time.

It's not unusual for the embassy to ring multiple times, they ring when they are unclear about some of the detail provided.

Did you apply for visas for the children ? Do you intend to in the future ? The embassy probably want to be clear on this point as who has sole responsibility for care of children plays a big part in deciding if settlement visas should be granted for them.

My wife applied for her son at the same time she applied for herself and providing evidence of who cared for her son on a daily basis was a big part of the application.

Your wait should be over soon though.

Just for the record my wife was sucessful. Good luck to those all still waiting, now I will have to go on another topic to find out which one we have been given but think its jsut start again from beginning and do 27 months until have to pay the next wack of money, unless of course they change the rules again which is also likely during these timescales, whatever happened to restrospective!!

In fact, most applications are successful. The figures for 2009/10 have yet to be published, but in 2008/09 in Thailand out of 2,775 settlement applications, 2,385 were granted; thats 87%.

See Entry Clearance Statistics 2008/09; Thailand's settlement applications are on page 75.

The success rate for family visits (page 37) was 90% and for other visits (page 52) it was 91%.

A look in the archives (2001/02 to 2004/05 and 2005/06 onwards) will show similar results.

Which indicates, to me at least, that provided one prepares properly, obtaining a UK visa, visit or settlement, is not as difficult as some would have people believe.

Had a phone call this morning from channel islands immigration.They have received the referral for my wife and will process it this week,they couldnt tell me if it was a yes or a no but said its generally a straight forward procedure and will call me if they need any further information.....so fingers crossed everything will be ok and i'll keep you posted on the outcome:)

All of the old check lists seem to have disappeared, perhaps they are now outdated or inadequate.

I have attached the check list that my wife used when applying for a tourist visa just over a year ago.

Not 100% sure yet chiang mai as we don't have a full years data but I suspect you are right.

Yes I agree Suhari the vague message is a killer but it is sent from VFS who have no idea of the outcome, only that the application has been returned to them for collection.
