  1. Be aware that working on a Tourist visa is illegal. The chances of getting caught are rather slim and the chances of getting into trouble if the paperwork has been submitted are even less. We had a teacher on a tourist visa who got caught but faced no punishment because the school had submitted his paperwork. But that said, it is illegal.

It's my understanding, and I could be wrong, that the OP would have to get a provisional TL first, since he will not have taken the Thai Language and Culture course, which I thought was required for everyone.

Since it is the school that will probably be preparing the paperwork, you can expect delays.

Does your new employer know that you are leaving in September? There is a break in October and it might leave the school in a difficult position if you leave at the time when the exams and grades are being done.

I thought the Thai culture and teaching ethics course has to be submitted when applying for the second round? ( After two years of teaching on a provisional TL, good for two years)

Once the OP has started at a school and they produce the needed documents, I don't see any problems for the OP. I might be wrong.

Or let's put it this way: How many of us had started with a work permit? The OP will have to change his visa status by obtaining a visa in let's say Sawannakhet/Laos.

That should happen immediately and no problems will occur.

Then he'll be on a Non-B and waiting for the provisional TL.

    Welcome to the jungle.-thumbsup.gif

  2. The only way to avoid having to go out for another B visa is if your current school will cooperate with starting the work permit application process for your new school. They would have to agree for your new school to apply for the new work permit.

Then they would cancel your old work permit and give you a letter stating the date you job has ended. You would then go to the immigration office where you got your extension with the letter to cancel your extension and apply for a 7 extension.

Then before the 7 days are up you would apply for a new extension in Bangkok with your new work permit..

A change of the province usually makes your visa invalid and you'll have ti apply for a new visa in a neighboring country.

The visa was given for that particular school and in another province.

  3. There are a couple of vets in Sisaket that I know of. If you look at the Sisaket map post number 40 on this thread http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/63324-isaan-maps/page-2

One is located 2E on Thanon Thelpa same side as the post office as you head towards the police station. It's small and friendly.

The other which I know performs operations is located one street back and runs parallel to the railway food market map reference 4F. It's down the street off Thanon Khu Khan towards the school. The start of the street has a Charoen optics and home pro or home mart on the corner. This is a bigger vet with a large selection of pets and pet products.

    I'd reckon the second vet.

  4. " It was 750 baht for many years and is 600 baht now. Might have changed again...."

While working, it's a percentage of your salary, up to a max of 750 baht (for employee and employer - each = 1500).

600 baht a month would indicate one of two things.

    1 Your salary is 12k a month. 5% of that is 600.

2 The government is again helping the folks by subsidizing the amount due. They've been doing that on and off for the last couple of years.

    OP

" I told my girlfriend to fight them all the way, then leave after she wins..."

What will that accomplish? If they really do want her to leave, and she leaves, they win.

    ??

2 The government is again helping the folks by subsidizing the amount due. They've been doing that on and off for the last couple of years.

Seems your second point is right.

What really bugs me is that they give all foreign teachers a 14 digit number, that doesn't even exist. It usually shows age, gender, etc...but it's just made up.

Had a friend, who works at an Amphoe office, trying to "look" mine up, typed my number in, but doesn't exist. So he phoned the social security in Sisaket and they're lying about all and said that there'd be also my passport number on it Which is-of course- not true.

The reason might be the social security itself, as your Filipino gf would also be entitled to receive money for her child, as far as I remember 500 baht/month, plus paying for the hospital where she'll give birth. Did she tell them that she was pregnant before she'd started?

Something's wrong with the OP's story, sorry.

But I do agree with your last sentences, would like to add ten more question marks to it. Cheers-wai.gif

  5. My daughter's foreign teacher gave the class a list of short vowel words to learn. Can you spot the mistakes?

Cat; mat; leg; men; pig; dig; toy; cow; run; cup.

I don't understand your question at all. These are all short vowel sounds. Nothing wrong with it.

No vowel here does the sound as it would when you're saying the ABC.....Couldn't you Google it before?

Your foreign teacher was just using a,e,i,o,u vowels that are short ones.-facepalm.gif

  6. Sorry, electronic of cars, bikes is my favorite one. What does the ignition do to your ABS?

You might have to take the fuses out, but one by one, as corrosion could be a problem. If you can explain it a little better, I might have an idea.

Just take your old wiper blade into a shop and see if the have the right length. Shouldn't be a problem.

  7. Been getting 2kg Cheddar in Makro for ages.. 900bt

    totster smile.png

    IMHO...................

the Cheddar in Makro is tasteless, while the Gouda is not! biggrin.png

Makro sell about 3-4 various makers of 'Cheddar Cheese'. Don't write them all off. I prefer their ready frozen grated 'Cheddar Cheese' as it doubles up to make a lovely topping for pizza's. Their 'Mozilla' is crap.

Try to eat a pizza with the "real one." It's addictive. Cheddar is for Americans, as they don't know it better. And white enriched bread. Harr harr.

  8. Been getting 2kg Cheddar in Makro for ages.. 900bt

    totster smile.png

Had that so many times but it tastes like poo. ( Comparing with the Gouda) Might be a great idea to share such a big wheel of 4.5 kg with somebody, before it dries out.

The Pepper salami is nuts, please try their "Haus Salami".A good German Rye black bread with Gouda and Haus salami is always "lovely", together with a fresh brewed coffee.

If you can't find this cheese or salami at let's say Makro Sisaket, just tell them to order some, takes three days.

And there're people on this forum who badmouth Dutch people. Their cheese and wooden shoes are unique......thumbsup.gif

  9. It should be 50 - 50. Nowadays the contribution is 750 baht. Whoever I know pays this much and the school pays the other half.

I believe she has encountered a very "hungry" head teacher. Schools are one of the most corrupt institutions in Thailand, so I am not surprised that they try to avoid paying their share.

It was 750 baht for many years and is 600 baht now. Might have changed again....

  10. Khao (Cow) - Could be white, knee, leg, mountain, rice and a lot more....

    Pak - Pack your stuff

Gai (Guy) - Gay, far away, or near, depending on your amount of teeth...

Moo - Pork ( Pigs don't Moo...) could be village too/

Goong - Prawns Gong in a temple makes that sound...

Pla - Fish Bla, bla bla.on bar stools..

Boo - Crab ( If somebody says some weird shit in Sisaket, just say Boo.Can also be a sort of surprise, or maybe a crab.... .)

Talay - Seafood (mixed) ( misunderstood by you, the seafood is Talee, doesn't mean mixed at all...

Khai - Egg Could be my eggs, somebody, or who......

Pad - stir fried Pad has big boobs, could also be short for iPad....

Tod - deep fried Tod is short for Toddler. Please don't do that to your child.

Yaang - BBQ Not yet ready/done,

Tom - soup Tom was on a 12 year overstay, got deported to the States, but came back after only two weeks. Then cooked in a soup in Indonesia.

Soup is actually Guai Giau.....( with noodles)

You're' trying to give advice but most words are wrong. You'll have to put a cloth hanger inside your nose and say the words you came up with that a Thai would understand you.

    Thanks for the free lesson.facepalm.gif

  11. I'd like to apologize to all the Brits, Aussies and other nationalities, ( don't even know if America has a football team, as they only play soccer) when it happens again.

Honestly speaking, I do feel sorry when Germany beats -again- the <deleted> out of these teams again. Please buy enough tissue, or use toilet paper for your tears.

But please don't be upset about the truth. You might have a chance, once all people in Thailand are able to communicate in English. No foul play now, please.-w00t.gif

  12. Apitha called on Thai students to urgently improve their English language skills.

Taught by Thai English and other Asian teachers with a poor command, spoken and written. I've taught too many grade six kids, who were better than their teachers. Upps.

He said the main reasons for the low score included the emphasis on translating English, students lacking clear objectives, a fixed teaching pattern and a fear of failure among students. As a result, he said the academy had introduced the "TOEFL X-CHANGE" tablet, which had eight language-learning applications to allow children to practice English anytime, anywhere

What? Translating English to Tinglish and vice versa, but using Tinglish as the command language doesn't help, guys.Yes, students lacking clear objectives,as their teachers do.

A fear of failure, you gotta be kidding me. TOEFL X exchange tablet sounds similar to World Class Standard High Speed Trains, and other nonsense.

Totally Outdated English Failure Language X CHANGE

  13. The government won't make it a requirement to have a BEdu, if they did they'd need to adhere to the same standard for Thai teachers as well.

The degree in education requirement has been a requirement since 2003. See 'Teachers and Educational Personnel Act BE 2546 (AD 2003)', section 44, paragraph a2. The Act applies to both Thai and foreign teachers.

Yep. But they obviously made the wrong decision. It seems that they're planning to change it- again-, as they've cancelled the tests.

Would be great to know how many foreigners who've got a teacher's license are on fake degrees. Next joke is how many are "teaching" on an ED visa.

Last but not least those who are on an overstay and just continue to work without a work permit and visa..

And ASEAN pops in next year in December.

The online degree offered by a university from the Philippines, with their "headquarter" in Bangkok and accredited by the TCT is only a better joke for me. Same university also employs teachers? No, it's not a money making institution.

Would such a degree really make anybody and I mean anybody in Thailand to a better teacher? How efficient are Turkish English teachers who work for an agency in Bangkok at a school in Sisaket?

I didn't see any improvement, coming from the Thai educational system. Most of the "new batch of Thai English teachers" who graduated this year and started to work in May as English teachers can't have a simple conversation with somebody who speaks fluent English.

Then you hear the "not losing face excuses" that they are good in reading and writing in English. Give me a break, please. You "study" English for 15 years to be finally able to read English comic books, but you can't speak it?

My Co-teacher, who teaches Thai is way better in English than all the English teachers at my school. How comes? Okay, she's married to a Dutch guy.

Holy buffalo, what was the MoE and the TCT in Bangkok doing all these years? Only new laws to make old shit worse.

By the way, this is from a good lawyer, you can buy a doctorate a “real” one, if you put 500, 000 baht on, aeehh under the table.

    I had a dream...........................facepalm.gif .
