  1. Another reason why the English teaching results/situation has never changed, unfortunately even decreased, might be their hiring policy, regarding English teachers.

Schools do not pay more to foreign English teaches, than they did 12 years ago, while the cost of living has dramatically increased.

100 baht was pretty much similar to 1,000 baht now, back in 2002.

For those who do not send money to their relatives in their country of origin, and try to feed a family in Thailand, it can be pretty hard to live on a teacher's salary.

Buying a car, or even thinking about having your own house one day seems to be a dream for most, who came to this country without savings.

More and more nonnative English speakers from, a member country of the upcoming ASEAN community, are "teaching" a language they're not really familiar with.

Thai head teachers and coordinators keep on hiring them, as they don't even understand how poor the majority's level of English really is.

.They pay them less money, let them make boards, clean classrooms and other "useful" activities. I have only met two in almost ten years of teaching who spoke a real good English, with excellent writing skills. Unfortunately, there're some good ones, but in the minority.

So when you see the Thai English teachers with their mostly questionable command in English, then add some teachers to it, who're only a little bit better in communicative English, you’ll have such a for all involved difficult situation.

Then change some laws, make it impossible for those who'd already shown in a period of 15+ years that they're capable of teaching English to Thai kids.

Add the fabulous agencies, who send qualified and experienced native English speakers, (some have a Turkish, Russian, German, Romanian, etc. passport)) and send them to a school to teach English, an hour a week.

Then let all students pass, even those at a high school, who never attended their English class and just come to their "tests." Some schools set up an "immersion camp" for three days and they'll also pass.

Finally put all of them in a blender, stir them well and you've got the result, so many people are complaining about.

It was never my intention to step on somebody's feet, just some points what's going wrong here.. Damn, now I've lost my face.-facepalm.gif

  2. After their arrest, Cohen and Shea said Knudsen owed them a million baht – B380,000 for a big bike and the remainder in interest – and had paid them nothing. Earlier a court confirmed that they were entitled to the sum.

620,000 baht for "interest", The shooters were entitled by a court for that sum, that makes my day. Of course it wasn't about some drugs as well.

Could anybody please confirm, if the two Aussie Tattoo dushbags are still in the Phuket biker/tattoo scene?

As far as I remember, they didn't even get deported, right?

The Danish freak should rot in hell, together with the tattoo freaks. The Dane for killing his girlfriend in front of two kids and the Aussies for human stupidity

. And they're allowed to take their mopeds with them.

  3. For those of you wondering how he could possibly be a canadian, the clue is in the photo.

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

I've had a look at the photo ... his eyes, his nose ... I don't see anything that screams out Canadian.

He is wearing a short that says Canada. Are you suggesting that he must therefore be Canadian? So anyone I see wearing a shirt that says "Missouri State Uni" (or similar) must be American? Interesting - I never knew that. Far more Americans around than I ever knew. What about people wearing "Coca Cola" t-shirts? American too? And I guess all those dark-skinned, black-haired, Thai-speaking people I see wearing Chelsea FC shirts must be Brits.

I've got Monika Lewinksi, smoking a cigar on mine. Does that mean anything, professor?

  4. Even if the kids were doing that for quite a while, the American- if guilty- shouldn't have taken underage boys. If he likes that sort of stuff, why not in a boy go-go bar?

Something smells very fishy here and the boys might be back on the streets again, doing the same business. Who's protecting them? Cops?

That's also a part of why i hate Pattaya so much. It seems to attract all sorts of perverted and weird people. Full of sick people and criminals.

" Fun city for pedophiles drug addicts, falling in love with a bargirl foreigners, guys who "accidentally jump off balconies",and those who made the mistake to travel with their own wives, soon divorced and in deep shit when back home.?"-w00t.gif

  5. Doesn't make much sense. If he'd have done that, why did he not go away from this country?

Yep, the hang him high bs, if the cops place a bag of drugs in your luggage and you get caught, reporters write your full name with the pointing finger on the photograph.

Even when it turns out that you're innocent, you'll usually be f_ck_d..

Let's just wait and see any evidence.

  6. Found something funny out

    Most xx size working

    When you put a m.

For mobile access instead of www

It's also a diffrence , when you enter the link direct, mostly not work

When you search same link on google often it works!

No joke try it out !

    Try the Google translator, please.

  7. Thanks for all the replies above!!

@Bpuumike post #15: the problem occurs when I start up the laptop after it has been off for 8 hours or more, so it does not shutdown just because of overheating.

@NeverSure post #17: my laptop battery has been 'dead' for months already. I took it out just recently to see if that would make a difference re the shutdown problem,

    but it did not.

I've had this problem for about 2 weeks now.

@Sirchai post #21: I don't get the 'safe mode' option, only the 'repair option' and 'normal start-up' option.

I did the repair option today and after about 25 minutes it concluded that it could not 'repair the system automatically' and asked whether I wanted to

send a report to Microsoft or not. I choose not to, after which the laptop did continue with an uninterrupted start-up.

I tried to do a disk defragmentation analysis, but after 1 hour it was still only showing "1%" so I cancelled that.

I think I will first get some external hard drive and copy all important stuff on it and then take it to a shop.

Hopefully the laptop will breakdown not just yet, before I have copied everything.

    Thanks for all replies!

A good solution would be to download "YourUninStaller pro". Free a lot of space, get rid of unwanted programs that always leave parts on your system.

A very good program to check your hard drive's health is "Hard drive sentinel". Try that, if the hard drive seems to be okay, then get back to this forum.

    Good luck!!

  8. Withgwrmsn subtitles amazing!

Critic society does not mean destroying !

It's helping to rebuild our destroyed nature!

The pollution of smoke is so strong, that the ocean wind streams transport the smoke of Asia in black ashes inside the ice of Antarctica over the half globe where is no civilization!

Was a interesting report on German tv!

Good to read you, Sandman. Please see attached photo of a dog we bought in Buri Ram. Something's wrong with it.

  9. I will make some enquiries with the guys in Surin. Eivan of the Oasis Norwegian Bar Is a regular in the private hospital, for example and he will be familiar with proceedures.

Good news, I know a German organisation in Bangkok, that might help as well. But it won't be a mistake to inform the tourist police. It's basically one of their responsibilities,

    Keep us informed, please..

Never seen a tourist policeman in Surin.

I have put a message out locally that many farangs will see.

    Will keep u posted

    Dave

Just give them a call. 1155......got it on my tourist police volunteer shirt: Your First Friend. Will call a female officer who's working for Sisaket area.

    Keep you up to date.

  11. yes, the environment is a grave concern - however, the largest part in pollution (on planetary scale) doesn't come from western countries, it comes from developing countries, including China, India, etc.

I see a similarity to Isaan farmers, who only have the opportunity to watch the daily soap operas about the rich guys, with big cars, houses, guns and more.

Yes, the similarity bears the same dangers: destruction of a functioning society by welfare or destruction of a functioning society by green policies.

The best solution I see is to slightly revise voting rights - i.e. every person who pays more tax than it receives from social transfers should be allowed to vote. Net welfare receivers should not be allowed to vote for 2 reasons: first, I think it is not healthy when the beneficiaries of welfare can themselves influence how much welfare they receive, and second, I think it is a bit awkward to ask people who aren't able to sustain their own existence their opinion about how the country should be run.

"however, the largest part in pollution (on planetary scale) doesn't come from western countries, it comes from developing countries, including China, India, etc."

Where most product for the west are produced to feed the profit of the west?

You might consider to have a look here, as it's not in America's interest to let people know what's going on.

By the way, the steel for some American bridges are being produced by China, instead of giving jobless people in the States an income. One of the projects is steel for the San Francisco bridge.

The excuse is pretty weird. They don't have anymore steel factories that could do that. Why don't they build some????

And why do companies such as MAC ( Apple) and many others choose China to get their stuff produced?

Why are German sneakers and other goods produced in Thailand, China, etc..? And that goes on and on and on. M O N E Y.

Sorry for the link. Actually meant "stuff", not staff.....

  13. I'd assume that some TVF members are living in Surin and could give a helping hand.

I was in a similar situation, but my wife was there 24/7 for me.

If that's not possible, the tourist police should help him to sort things out. Their phone number is 1155 (toll free)

Hope he'll have a speedy recovery and gets his problems sorted out.-wai2.gif

  14. A friend of mine, who's got various computer shops from Surin to Sisaket told me once that little animals like ants are causing many problems.

I had aclean up at my notebook a few weeks ago due overheating issues and you wouldn't believe how many ants there were.

They blocked the cooling system and a clean up was 300 baht. That doesn't explain the shut down. A bad contact of the memory card(s), virus(es), Trojans, etc could be the answer. Can you boot it in save mode?

If so a system restore could help you.

  15. I was married to a girl from Korat and she died (over ten years ago). Her family who I have no contact with now kept the death certificate. I now need a copy of this to remarry. I will have to go to Korat from Pattaya but will be alone and my Thai is not good enough to explain myself. Do any of you local guys know of a translation service who could go with me and also where I have to go. This is in Korat city. Thanks in advance.

Some people never learn through bad experiences.Could you take somebody who's better in Thai than you and get that from the Amphur office?

  16. Shouldn't the rainy season already have started by now?

    Yes, it's late.

    totster smile.png

Mother nature works in mysterious ways some years. You can't always set your watch by her can you.

I know it when more and more ants walk straight into our house that it will rain soon. Ants can't be wrong.

  17. Hello and Sawasdee khrap,

This year seems to be special for my family and me. I jumped over my shadow and actually bought a 4.5 kg wheel of Dutch Gouda cheese at Makro for 1,950 baht.

For those who're not good at math, please let me explain.

450 grams of finest Dutch cheese for 195 baht. 45 grams for 19.5 baht. Was only possible to buy such a big wheel of cheese as I'd quit my job to make more cheesemoney from now on.

Delicious on pizza, toast, on any noodle dishes, salad, on a steak, sandwich, etc...

I even take some cheese and house (Haus in German) salami (1 kg at Makro made by TGM ( Thai German Meat), some decent bread to school, as my lunch.

Better than any Somtahm I ever had, please give it a try.Hope my post wasn't too cheesy now.-facepalm.gif
