I miss scraping the ice from the windscreen in the morning. But, I suppose I'll just have to live here without that stimulating habit; sometimes, life really sucks!
What stops you from scraping the ice from your windscreen every morning in Thailand ?

France is a democracy and the govt is elected by its citizens? It is the French government who makes the policies which allow these african muslims or chinese or others to easily migrate and become French citizens?
The origin of this matter of fact is a law known as "regroupement familial" which in 1976 when Giscard d'Estaing was president, allowed foreign workers from some countries (french ex colonies) to make their families come and live with them. The effects are that their children, as they born on the French soil are french... easy to understand the humanitarian reasons of the law, but uneasy to forsee the consequences, mostly in the present geopolitical context...

Met her in 2009, then she came and stay with me in Paris for 3 months as legally she couldn't stay more than 6 months on a period of 1 year, then back to Thailand and back to france 3 months and so on for 2 years. Good to learn to know each other but anyway i decided to trust my intuition. Married in 2011. Still together living in Paris. Meeting her is the best "thing" that has happened to me.

What a friendly comments on here so far. Quite disgusting actually, especially taking into account the average looks and bodyweight of TV members.
You can warn people that obesity can lead to serious health problems, but that doesnt mean you should also try to insult obese people and assume they are dumb/stupid.
I agree 100%, why being so mean ?

When you realize it's been a year or more you haven't fight or argue with your wife about problems that don't exist...
Very big change comparing with our farang ladies (or at least the 2 I married and -thanks god ! - i divorced)

After my first stay in Thailand I knew I wanted to stay there for good and when back to France I started to on thaikiss where I met a lady. I went and visit her in korat and I was about to set up file to make her come to visit me in paris when I found out (too long to explain) she was in Phuket with an other Frenchman !
So I went on thaikiss again and started a chat with this nice woman from ubon.
We are now married for 8 years happily living in paris waiting to go and settle down in Thailand when I will retire. She's one of the best human being and for sure the best woman I've ever met. I thank Buddha everyday for putting her on my path.
And having red so many bad stories on Thaivisa, I realize how lucky I have been to find out the truth about the korat lady... when I think about it, oh ! gives me the creep ?
Cheers

Very true.
We had a visit two days ago from some relatives of my wife.
With them a 3 or 4 yr. old boy, parents away for working, in custody of granny as so many.
He started exercising his Thai boxing/kicking skills on his grandmother and then my wife.
Some helpless tear away and asking to stop action.
I grabbed him, turned his backside up and gave him three mild smacks.
He was crying like hell for almost 10 min.
Must have been a first time experience.
Essentially I have given up caring about child education here.
The granddaughter in the house (17 yr old): happy to see her leave next year.
Always walking after her, turn off the lights, close the doors, clean up, closing/covering the washing machine etc. etc. Useless.
Maybe this murderer was also one of the "granny childs".
Year after year he got all he cried for.
But now...
About the 17 years granddaughter, not a thai specific matter. It's exactly the same as my 15 years old daughter, full westerner born and raised in france. sometimes i feel like i want to...? her.

My wife changes place of things without telling me so i am always looking for things that were somewhere before but aren't there anymore.
Pretty annoying.

She has to work to survive
Welcome to the real world, too many Thai women think they can live of the backs of farangs.
If i was rich or wealthy enough i wd be happy to support my wife and take care so she doesnt have to work. But in a way i am glad she works and earn her own living and have a social life of her own. She started to work from the first month she arrived here and never stopped since. She seems happy with it.

I wd like to thank everyone for your answers and for sharing your experiences and feelings about what is after all a very intimate matter. Your answers give me a line of thoughts about it though every story is unique. Our decision about moving there is made already and i think i will have to face this guilt feeling and learn how to live with it.
Thanks again
Cheers

Hello everybody,
My wife and I plan to come and live in Thailand as soon as i'll retire, in a few years from now.
I have two daughters here in France and they will be 21 and 25 when i expext to move to LOS. So far, i never felt like i would miss them thinking that skype would help to maintain relationship at a good level and that they wouldn't need their dad to be around anymore like they did when they were children.
But now, i have a doubt about beeing so far from them though i know if that i st.ay in Paris, i will see them once a month or so, and they will have their own life of young adults to live without their father around whom i hope, they will not miss.
I would like to know how you guys, who now live in Thailand and have children from your former life deal with this feeling. I feel a little guilty about that. Do you ? What is your experience about that ?
Thanks for your return.

Oh the French....l'amour non-stop. The rabbits of Europe.
Though i am french, and very honoured to be considered as the rabbits of europe (except that in action, most of us last a bit longer than rabbits), i wouldn't call the behaviour of this old sickoe "l'amour non stop"...

Taxi Driver, nobody has ever filmed NYC so well, the Godfellas and almost all Scorsese movies, great director;
Hitchkock and Truffaut movies too.
Truffaut was a great fan of Hitchcock and Scorsese is a fan of the 2 others and i am fan of those three.

Hello everybody,
I like very much those yellow lemons we have in europe especially those from around mediterranea, big and juicy
But here in thailand i have only seen the little green limes which are good too but... not as much to my taste
Have you ever seen yellow lemons here in the markets or supermarkets ?
Do you know if this specie could grow here ?
Just a question i was asking myself as i am pretty much boring in my bkk hotel room waiting for taxi to airport
Someone has any answer ?
Cheers

Thank you Sheryl for your answer yes it looks more like a classical "turista"
This does not sound remotely like typhoid. Sounds like food poisoning. Take rehydration fluids and you'll likely be close to normal by the time you get home (of course if fever and vomiting recur and persist, see a doctor). Can you please explain what were the symptoms apart from pains ?
I had a severe fever and vomit and diarhrea all night long in railay last week and still feel very weak
I go back europe on wednesday and will see my doctor there but i worry now
The cardinal sign of typhoid is a high fever that persists for a long time (i.e.more than a week or two).
It is actually not widespread in most of Thailand any more but sounds like Samui may be an exception.
I had it several times in the 1990's in Phnom Penh at which time it was hyper prevalent there. They have since completely redone the city water system and it fortunately is now much less common there.
First time it happens to me here in Thailand...
I will check out at home
Cheers

Ghost appears in ambulance as victim taken to hospital, says Thai media
in Isaan News

I don't believe in god nor in ghosts as i've been raised in the educational system of an occidental developed country but my wife strongly believes in ghosts, she told me she actually saw one at night in her village many years ago when she was a youngster. I respect her beliefs and I imagine it would be fun if there was a whole entire world of ghosts that we can't see but who would live their own lives among us, have their ghost police and thieves, ghost football teams (though some of you .would say that PSG is already a ghost football team in CL...), ghost Nigerian scammers and last but not least ghost bar girls hanging on with ghost expats... how funny...
