  1. I happened upon their presentation at the Central Festival Mall last weekend and with the way they are spending money on promotion it is going to be huge

As another poster said, no matter where you buy in Thailand you can never tell what is going to be build adjacent, on top of, or near you

See for yourself what they are planning

  2. As a U.S. citizen you have a very easy solution available to you. Instead of using your bank accounts to verify your financial ability to live in Thailand, go the the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok and obtain a letter from them certifying your annual income. I do that every year with no problem.

Send me a PM if you want more information.

    Simplest solution to the problem

If you have some "moral qualms" then look at it as YOU are funding your retirement via your savings which equal at least 65,000 THB per month which you state to the Embassy and they just say that you stated it

This is probably the ONLY time being a US citizen pays off. NO proof required

  3. thanks to everybody, i did the run again and checked the cars again. The camry won hands down, so I just ordered the 2.4. It comes loaded and is really roomy and comfortable. Hope it was the right choice but as posted on this thread, the resale is really good. I am 6'1 190# and the yarris, although a nice small car, is just too small and basic to drive all the time.

    thanks for replies

How long till you will get delivery

  4. As I understand it, under the Thai-United States Amity Treaty, U.S.A. based businesses owned by Americans are allowed to buy land in Thailand under much easier terms than would be the case for other foreign owned business. The Amity treaty does accord Americans special status. For example, I know that unlike other foreigners, because of this treaty, as an American I don't need to show that I have 800,000 baht in the bank to obtain or renew my retirement visa. . I just need to go to the U.S. Consulate and get a notarized statement that I earn x amount of income per year.

As you understand it is WRONG

" Thai-United States Amity Treaty " has absolutely nothing to do with the Retirement (long stay) Visa or Permission to stay for Retirement that is covered by the 65,000 THB monthly income requirement . These are Immigration rules and only because you are an American the Consulate or Embassy does not require proof of this income

  5. What kind of speeds are you guys getting, even with a rapidshare account I only get around 500kbps is Maxnet throttling the speed?

No, Maxnet is not throttling Rapidshare, 500kbps is about the best you are going to get in Thailand due to the "crap copper" we are dealing with

You can make it a little less painful by using a download manager, I prefer and use Internet Download Manager

  6. I can't find it now, (we all know how wonderful the search function is on this site) but wasn't there a warning given by the government before all this started that they would not tolerate "foreigners" getting involved in this demonstration ?

Please feel free to correct me if I am imagining this

  7. US Embassy charges $35 (at present, soon to go up) for a Residency Certificate

Immigration Bureau depending upon you location, charge from 0 up to 500 THB, require a form ( Certificate of Residence Application TM.18) 2 photos, arrival stamp, lease, house book, or utility receipt to issue the Certificate

Don't bother going to the Innigration Police :)

  8. The handrails on the balcony's at center condo are only 38" as opposed the regulation height of 42" in the UK,

not hard to fall over if pushed hard enough

The height of the handrail is irrelevant in this case :

She fall/went from the kitchen window, not from the balcony...

BTW, if someone wanted to jump they would most likely do it from the balcony.

Then she flew an extra 7 feet since the kitchen in that apartment is recessed towards the back of the building

All you have to do is look at the broken ceiling on the overhang and it is obvious that she fell straight down from the balcony

BTW. Yesterday the workers at Center Condo wrapped the entire condo building in a single strand of white string after they placed a meal on a table next to where the body landed
