This happened to a couple of people in Chumphon. There was a part of the test where you have to drive scooter slowly in a straight line without either foot touching the ground. Maybe 50-100 meters. So some people failed that part and had to retest. But they eventually passed.

Ok. Just spoke to my wife and she did not have to purchase a contract when she moved to Bangkok 6 years ago. ????
Did she mention anything else about her friends or peers that may have had to pay a "commission" for their job/raise/etc?

I haven't been for years either but trying to get good information is getting more difficult on this site. As you can read, many have a whoring mentality which is what brought them here in the first place. Try to check out other sites which may get you further in gathering info..
Maybe this thread would give you more insights:
I hope to make it there myself over next couple of months. Been over 9 years.

For marketing purposes we stuck with calling it EU, by no means is this an attempt to mislead; it is merely using a word commonly used by regular people to describe a region, a cluster of countries that share the same currency, not a union/trading bloc.
I guess the more accurate term would be EEA???

- switch to SSD drive (if there is an m.2 nvme slot, best to get that one filled first). This will improve startup time to 8-13 seconds. Programs should install/load instantly.
- consider a fresh win10 install. I personally would only use LTSC Enterprise version, but win10 Pro should work also for the casual user.
I like my computer functioning 100% the same each day I go to use it, with no surprises. This would require having more direct control over windows updates, forced reboots, etc, which LTSC provides.
- avoid installing anything you don't need or actually use. If you don't know exactly why a particular program is being used, don't install it.
- in Task Manager, go to the startup tab and disable any programs that you see don't actually NEED to be started up.

Do people still use travel agents???
If they have the proper connections to view wholesale flight itineraries, they can be of use. Because the Expedia and such cannot always customize legs very well. A human touch can still do this and still honor preferences such as airline preference or stop preferences (avoiding certain countries).
I've used UsChinaTrip.com a long time ago and I'm trying them again to see if they can get a deal on open jaw ticket I'm currently researching.

now have a one year multi-entry visa based on marriage and except for TM-30s, do not have to deal with local Immigration, but do need to do a border run every 90 days. The family is already thinking about where we will go for future holidays every 3 months.
5 hours ago, Tanoshi said:Not strictly correct.
You can obtain a 60 day extension to each 90 day entry, making a border run after 150 days.
If used to it's maximum potential you can stay in Thailand for almost 17 months before applying for a new Visa, with only 3 border runs and 3 x 60 day extensions.
Actually, to get the extension, would require trips to the local immigration office. So if the office staff aren't friendly or are too far away, the border run might be preferred.
Granted, the 60 day extension is much easier to obtain than the 1 year extension for visiting Thai family.

They shot out one of his back tires causing him to lose control near a clinic in the Moo 8 area of the city....
Careening into cars and motorcycles the Triton ended up smashed into a shop front and a motorcycle with sidecar used for selling meatballs....
Shooting out the tires of a moving motor vehicle? With innocent by-standards around waiting to be hit by the ricochet or crashed vehicle. So they were filming a live-action cartoon or movie, correct?

This Kor Ror 2 . If you were married to a Thai overseas, is this still needed? Or is there a different form?
And the marriage certificate can be in English, correct?

I think @Yinn would say something like "up to him", which is technically true. I agree that if they have been together for 15 years, a house is not a complete waste. He intends to spend the rest of his life with his partner.
Wonder what happened to the sin sod money though....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

how did the online casinos actually get caught? How would you know they operate in Cambodia, especially if the servers are [likely] hosted elsewhere.

How many years does she owe them when she finishes?
I ran into someone (Thai) who did an overseas program in USA. 100% funded by the Thai gov't. But then he must work for the gov't for twice the length of the schooling. So a 4 year program required 8 years "payback"

foreign transaction fee is really 10%? (includes the "free" exchange rate conversion) So if you buy something for 8000 baht, you pay the equivalent of 800 baht fee?
On 7/16/2019 at 6:17 AM, jabis said:You can pay with any credit/debit card or online banks (having 10 baht surcharge)
EDIT: I rather pay with online bank, with 10 baht surcharge, than store credit card information on their server ????Some of the banks are free. At least through the PEA app. But I imagine it would be similar via the browser-based login.

I was pretty much done with getting a Bangkok Bank Western Union account but then I ran into two "minor" issues. One they also require an OTP and two when I phone them they said their WU is a one way street, receiving only!
Try Krung Sri (Bank of Ayudhya) and/or Krung Thai . See this SE post regarding Vietnam, which could mostly be applied to your situation also.
6 hours ago, AAArdvark said:Understood, but my banks are in the US where they currently cannot transfer to and my Philippine account is not until I move there.
Ok. Maybe TransferWise can give you a better deal. There were also some companies like DeeMoney that would allow transfer for local pickup....I will try to find that information as it varies from country to country.

Thanks. However, I won't be able to do the trial because I won't have the other bank account set up until I get there. ....
The first trial is to make sure OTP works while you are in thailand. And of course once you are outside Thailand there you can still pay a thai bill or send money to another thai account. This would trigger OTP in most cases. You don't even have to complete the transaction, just trigger the OTP.
5 hours ago, AAArdvark said:Unfortunately, I don't yet have a dual SIM phone and I won't be traveling in and out of Thailand, only out.
I have an expensive single sim phone but I was thinking of getting a last years top of the line phone, like a Galazy S9+, except most of those appear to be fakes.
Either have a separate dumb phone just for the purpose, or a budget/mid range dual sim is fine.
The Galaxy m30s might surprise you. LazMall vendor is your best bet, even if you want the flagship models. It will be genuine if you buy from LazMall (online) or a shop like BananaIt, Tesco Lotus, Big C, JayMart, PowerMall, Samsung shop, Telewiz/Dtac/TrueShop/etc.

Why not simple take a prepaid one ? And set roaming on ? Besides your Thai bank card works in Europe too !
I would recommend AIS 12call sim. Change it to the Second Base plan (no monthly fee). top up 10-20 baht increments until you max out 1 year validity. You should be good to go at this point.
Change your banks / deemoney over to the new phone #. I would recommend you perform at least 1 transaction that would require OTP from each bank/service you'll need to ensure it all works ok before you go.
And of course when you travel outside Thailand, you can repeat this OTP test.
The roaming will automatically kick in when you travel outside Thailand. If you have dual sim phone, just have it in one of the slots and you will continue to receive incoming SMS for free.

Transferwise transfer is pretty fast. I sent some money from US bank to Indian associate and it got there in 4 hours (fully posted to his receiving account in that time)
To Thailand it depends on the time of day. But it is in the Thai bank early in the morning (05:00-06:30ish GMT+7). One time it took 36 hours. But it was sent too late Friday and had to go through the weekend.
And you get an email/app alert when it is there.
And they are very clear about the exact cost you pay and what you receive.
Now their Borderless account is a bit sluggish to post incoming wires. Will have to test that a bit more. And also, they say there are no incoming wire fees, but some "intermediary" [bank] snatched $18 from the final credit amount. It always seems to be a huge mystery as to who/why these fees are charged.
Perhaps it is best to use local currencies to get funds into borderless account (from other people) when possible. For example, it might have been cheaper/faster to convert to EUR, deposit into EUR borderless acct, then do additional conversion and/or send onwards to final destination.

@stevenl or anyone here, who is the taxi mafia to tell a major shopping center how they can conduct certain aspects of their business?
And to see that Central group caved so easily is equally disgusting.

Promotion finished
I figured that wouldn't last long if it was genuine.
My experience has been DHL Thai domestic is pretty slow vs Kerry. It could vary by region which carrier is dominant in that region.
But in general, sending a heavy package via Kerry or other local carrier seems to be superior to checking in the bag via air travel. Especially if you don't reserve the weight ahead of time (you try to do it at the check-in counter). And it is door-to-door.

32GB x 1 sodimm RAM stick for laptop in Thailand??
in IT and Computers
Posted
I just kept the 16gb stick (20gb total); i avg 30% RAM usage and rarely go past 60%.....and that's with 40+ browser tabs + 10-20 other programs open.
MemoryToday (FortuneTown, 3rd floor??) may have 32gb sodimm stick. Worth asking/ordering/take a trip. The in-person trip may be best. Free installation, and you wont be charged if it doesnt work.
