@Cyclenshaven It will be a lot less painful if you apply for ME non-o now. Any of the 90 day entries you can apply for the 1 year extension. This gives you maximum flexibility. The only thing you "lose" is a few extra bucks on the visa fee (single vs multiple non-imm). Other than that, you are golden.
Especially in light of the recent issues at immigration (TM 30, extra money seasoning in bank, et al) that could possibly delay your application, the ME will give you more options until you get settled.

That was apparently tried a few months ago and it was deleted.
Caveat Emptor
But I don't think the new changes are insurmountable. And maybe you can still use a wallet if you attach significant other's id card #. But particularly for high ticket items or items that are easily "faked" (like SD cards, thumb drives, et al) you should buy from LazMall or official stores (official brand or trusted stores with offline presence and use Lazada as additional sales channel).
I've had my fair share of fake goods sold, but the refund was always processed. Even if it took a little bit longer than expected. Next time I shop, I'll look at the wallet situation.

China has since become the second biggest foreign direct investor in Thailand in Q1 2019, with 38 project requests for investment promotion, worth 9.072 billion baht in all.
If China is #7 (or #2 in Q1 2019), then who are the top ten foreign direct investors? (where is this published?)

Actually, those personal details are in immigration office fairly open. Sometimes immigration officials will use another person's application/passport to show a new applicant a live example of the paperwork requirement (they just grab a related packet from the stack)
Apparently privacy isn't a big deal for them.

How were they able to exit/enter the various countries once their Thai passports got revoked? Can someone explain the logistics there?
for example, did they already have other passports?

I guess the process is similar to my current NON-IMM B visa, which I have to extend every year too.
As I moved here with the intention of staying here permanently I would be applying for the 1 year extension. The money isn't that big of a deal, I use it in Thailand anyway and have some extra in a fixed deposit account as well, that counts too right? Or does it have to be a savings/checking account?
You are confusing an extension of stay with the non-imm B (or O) visa. Different consulates have different requirements for whether they will issue non-imm visas and whether they can issue multiple entry or only single entry visas. You never mentioned which consulate (city, country) you were asking about visa options in the OP.
Extensions of stay do not have any additional entries attached to them. you must obtain a separate re-entry permit (single or multiple) and attach it to each extension.

With Bkk Airways, can you pay with online [Thai] banking? Either from desktop or mobile apps? If so, which banks do they support?
I know AirAsia you could and it was the cheapest option to book an 8-person itinerary (only 70 baht fee using desktop booking). They wanted 590 or 790 for any counter service option (7-eleven, Tesco, etc)

Sounds interesting, please explain. I have OneDrive and Google Drive.
Take a look at something like snthostings.com a seedbox is pre-configured to do one thing really well 24/7: upload/download torrents added. You would add magnet link and/or torrent file to the seedbox.
Also you could create torrents with existing files or by uploading files.
Especially if you use a private tracker, a seedbox is almost a requirement to keep a good seeding ratio.

You only need 25 - 30 Mb/s to stream a HD movie or TV. And to download from a torrent depends on what speed the Seed is sending at.
Sorry, I did not read later answers.
You are probably better off with a cloud seedbox. always on and you can download directly at higher speed.

I live in the sticks ; before, I was with 3 BB adsl, and I moved here, came to 3 bb to have fiber, but they never came ; So I went to TOT, a little bit afraid because I have read bad things about them; but I am now with TOT fiber, very satisfied, one time I did a mistake ( reset my modem, every thing stopped ), the engineers came very fast and they told me, never do anything, if problem, you call us ...
Take a screenshot of the different configuration pages before doing a hard reset of the modem. That wipes the config settings that the ISP put it to ensure it works on their network.

All depends on your location . I have used both true and AIS and ais wins in all aspects
my true was down at least once per week, evening time it’s just crawling .
50/20 with AIS is enough to watch playbox, YouTube on your iPad and surf net on phone at the same time with no problem .
100/100 with ais is enough to watch playbox and for 20 people to use internet at the same time
20 minutes ago, TallGuyJohninBKK said:It depends on the source location for where you're going to be streaming from. If it's local within Thailand, you could get with a lot less. If it's from a home country outside Thailand, you want a provider that's going to give you decent international connection speeds, enough to support streaming.
HD video streaming usually only takes around 5 Mbps of data. 4K can take up to 25 Mbps of data. But in either case, for streaming, you'd want those data rates to be consistently available, not bouncing up and down below those levels, in order to avoid buffering.
Just because a Thai ISP plan is rated for certain speeds INSIDE Thailand for domestic connections doesn't automatically translate into it being proportionately faster for international connections. In fact, with 3BB, I've found no difference on international streaming speeds from the U.S. with their 500 Mbps plan vs their 200 Mbps plan.
That said, both support HD video streaming from the U.S. just fine. 4K is a bit more problematic, because most of the 4K video streaming sources from the U.S. typically are going to require a VPN, and and is do-able but usually works best with an Ethernet connection vs using wifi.
These type of questions it does depend heavily on location. (no different than "which mobile sim card should I use??")
3bb was pretty aggressive about getting everyone upgraded to fiber. The fiber modem is free (good quality also), and I think it is 100/30 for the ฿590 plan (was 50/20). Once I switched, I convinced a lot of people nearby to upgrade to fiber also. No complaints from any of them. This is near Chumphon Town.

98% True. Thais are quite spoiled infrastructurally in their home turf:
- Paved main roads and major side roads, fairly good maintenance with filling potholes and occasional repavement.
- regular trash pickup
- running water + potable water that is cheap/accessible.
- electric grid that is up 99% of the time,
- Hospitals in nearly every district (Amphur); nearly every sub-districts (Tambon) have at least 1 health clinic.
- Fiber internet that's pretty good (200+Mbps down on the basic plan)
- Mobile phone coverage from at least one of the carriers (if you are near the "main road").
- Postal service or private carrier (Kerry et al) that can get expedited package from drop off to delivery point (one end of Thailand to the other) with 2-3 day delivery. Regular/registered parcel mail 3-5 days.
- wet/floating markets with regular turnover
- convenience stores away from the downtown districts that you can buy most staples without making the trip "to the town" all the time.
- well banked, with ATMs, CDMs et. all over as well as alternative methods to pay most bills (mobile apps, convenience stores, etc)
The overwhelming majority of Thais would not want to move there. Visit? Sure on occasion. That would actually be an interesting reality TV show: To select a few Thais and challenge them to live in Cambodia for 30-90 days.
Nothing against Khmer people btw.

Did I read that right? KL demands proof of 400,000 just for a one-entry (three month stay) visa?
Probably. Not many people report from KL here.
Penang might be better option if you have a little time. There are regular buses, etc between the two cities, correct?
Married to Thai national? Savannakhet Laos and Vietnam consulates let you obtain ME non-o without financial proof.

I know that Penang the sign on the door specifically said bank statement must be in THB, USD, EUR, or MYR. If it is in another currency, you must write the current conversion rate. Maybe printing one out from xe.com would be helpful also.

if warrants have been issued, why can't they identify the people involved (their eyes are blacked out)?
-
So just to be clear, the re-entry will clear the 90 day requirement.
฿1,000 + the cost of border hop = an expensive 90 day report. But if OP is willing to just get it out of the way for now (assuming online method doesn't work).
Or just don't do the report. People have been doing that since forever. You're going to have to take a risk one way or the other.

You could do a quick hop out and back in to clear the 90 days that way if you can't clear it up with them. Just creates more hassle though, even if it isn't required for monthly income.
@ubonjoe and others, does a border hop clear 90 day reporting requirement for extension of stay??
wouldn't OP need to get re-entry permit before leaving to preserve his existing extension?
12 minutes ago, phuketrichard said:do your 90day online or by mail
if your not in the 8-14 day window, do a border hop which resets your 90-day count
i was thinking something similar about the online 90 day report.

And how much were you planning to deposit?

I am in the same situation as you and would love to get a Multi Non-O from Penang, the only thing I am missing at the moment is the Bank Statement showing the 400k. I simply don't have the money or the financial resources at the moment.
......
Are you married on paper? Savannakhet, Laos is one of the main places with no financial proof.
Now HCMC I am not 100% sure if you must be married or if having a Thai kid is enough.
Penang the money does not have to be seasoned. It can either be monthly 40k for 10-12 months or 400k at once. The passbook or the statement just has to show it in there as the final balance.

Nothing is impossible. But it has tightened up and im is unlikely to do that.

Recently got ME non-immigrant o visa in Penang for visiting Thai family. The paperwork hasn't really changed much:
Thai Visa Application
2 passport photos
Valid Passport with a few blank pages
Copy of passport ID page
Copy of entry stamp into Malaysia
Copy of Thai Mother's ID card
Copy of Thai child's birth certificate
Copy of Tambien Baan (housebook registration, page 1 and page with Thai mom/kid's info)
Copy of Bank Statement showing 400k THB equivalent in USD, (or EUR, MYR, if using non-Thai bank acct)
750RM ME non-imm fee.
--
[using new passport, if you have gotten a non-immigrant previously]
Copy of old passport id page
Copy of old passport previous non-o
Notes:
- Went myself on a Friday, and picked up on Monday afternoon. It was really quiet Friday, and I was told it is normal for Fridays to be slow. It was so weird, because I've never seen Penang Thai consulate so desolate. I was in and out in 8 minutes or so. And that was after arriving late. Wow.
- Front gate of Thai consulate checks your application page to see if it is filled out and signed. Then gives you a ticket with a number. That same ticket marked and is used to pick up your visa the next afternoon.
- Talking with Jim, they still run applications. If the paperwork is "good", you don't have to go. But if it is not, then you must go yourself and apply.
- Special thanks to the Fujifilm place (Merlin Color Photo) on 444 Penang road behind Komtar. They open from 11:00 until 21:00 . 4 passport photos with minidisk for 14RM. Copies are 0.20 RM per page b/w, I think 0.40 or 0.50 pp color. Print from USB/email is 1RM pp b/w and 2RM pp color. They were the only ones that were open late. I was able to have everything ready in about 20 minutes after taking the passport photo. They were using laser printers/copiers.
I think there is a Fujifilm on on Chulia st that might open earlier, but closes earlier. The other visa shops on Chulia street their printers usually suck.
Not much has really changed for the non-o family visa, at least from what I can tell in Penang. But I do hear that Kota Bharu may have tightened up a bit. That's another thread though.

Assuming you are referring to having a single/multiple entry non-immigrant visa that may still be valid.
From my experience dealing with a similar situation, when you receive new passport, you will also receive a letter in English that tells immigration to transfer stamps into new passport. You bring the old passport (if you have it), new passport, and the letter that come from the new passport.
Your visa will stay in the old passport. It is the exit stamp that will go in the new passport.
If you need to still use the valid, non-immigrant visa in the old passport to enter, my understanding is that you would need to show the visa from old passport. And you will receive all new stamps in the new passport.

@simon43 can you confirm that you requested an invitation letter to open bank account from TE staff and they refused? Did they give a reason for the refusal to issue the lettet? Is there a TE acct manager that you are assigned that helps you with these things?
I'm not denying that your first contact with the TE/bank rep, the staff was being lazy. I think with a little persistence (different day, different branch, etc) you could get it done. If you know someonw who knows someone who works at a branch, that might be a good option also.

I agree with @Sheryl here. If you are under 50, Marriage and/or having actual Thai family (biological/adopted) is probably the best option. Runners up: Working /obtain work permit or starting a business that would allow you to obtain non-B.
Even if you are over 50, marriage to a Thai (if you don't already have kids) isn't such a bad option if you can tolerate your partner's expectations. Once you realize you are not getting any younger, the option becomes more attractive.
20 minutes ago, HampiK said:...The future for you in Thailand will become more difficult! Why not secure your money first in your homecountry and then when you have enough funds move and have a good life?...
Also agree here. If you don't have any roots, this isn't a bad way to do it. In fact, several expats do the split year route. Spend x months at home, and x months in Thailand. It will put you in a better position financially, and you still get to relax along the way.

Ho Chi Minh - ED Visa with stamp VOID

If your son is Thai, why didn't you just get a non-o for visiting Thai family? You likely can get a ME non-o. But at least a SE non-o.
I was getting non-ed visas (from home country) back when that was a breeze. But when I had my son, I switched to non-o on the next visa re-up. When all the crackdowns started happening (from back in 2014 when they first defined the Out-In border run and started implementing soft limits on Visa Exempts), the non-o (visiting thai family, retirement, et al) was unaffected.
