owner of the first series here. 2008 to be exact. bought 2nd hand at about 100000 km
only big breakdown was the ECU last year, but other than that, just routine things, due to age (close to 10 years old)

I thought it was a Fiat? kinda explains why they are crap. Chevy in name only.
diesel engine in the first model was designed by VM Motori (and built by GM Korea), which also made engines for FIAT trucks and vans.

Yep, diesel. Paddock are happy to ship here, do Turners do you know?
Not sure. here's what they have for your model:

they mostly deal with engine and transmission parts.
just can't compare them with Paddocks

diesel engine?
brings back fond memories. had a year code "A" too.
another parts supplier is Turner Engineering.
happy motoring!

must be the start of a new thread there , your story on how you managed to get it here from the Uk and the paperwork required
agree. would love to import one too.

a second hand defender in Thiland?
how much did it cost you if I may ask?
-
i remember that the merc class a also failed this test. was big news back then

had a mazda tribute 3.0 V6 LPG (ford escape made by mazda) which i sold.
now have a subaru XV, bit smaller, but a perfect substitute.
better really. permanent 4x4, great handling. 5 year warranty, cheap.
-
had the XV for about a year and a half and no trouble whatsoever, price has also gone down.
there were warnings about high oil consumption from the boxer engine on dedicated discussion boards,
but the only issue i have is high road noise.
4wd and traction control makes the XV very easy to drive to its limits. all that has to be added by the driver is courage

a motorcycle ran into the side of my car. everyone else stopped to let me pass except the motorcycle, running fast on the hard shoulder.
to my surprise the insurance decides that i'm at fault. i refuse to accept this and take the matters to the nearest police station.
the police blame the motorcycle driver (who is also drunk and has no license....).
all this to say, if you're not satisfied with what the insurance decides, take it to the police.
from what i'm told the insurance evaluators will try to favor the "weaker" party and this makes motorcycles drivers even more reckless.

Insurance evaluators tend to favour their employer.
it was my insurance I called!

well, my money has gone on an XV (in between price reductions....) handling is very good.
power, not much, but still enough to "smoke" chipped and exhaust-trimmed pickups

Here are the mods that the police will book you for (if they ever will...)

sorry, only in Thai
As for insurance, I wouldn't know. never had an accident with a modified car before.
surely, I would call in the police too, to enforce any of the above laws.

had one back in europe. 90TD
overhauled it and still got the pics!

It seems that Toyota may have inadvertently recognized the driver attitude you speak of with their slogan for the new model:
New legend of the pride
I still can't work out if they meant:
Be a legend [in your own mind], and rule the pride [of lions in the concrete jungle]
or:
The new legendary way to be proud on the road.
I'm going with the former
For some reason, "the pride" reminds me of the gay pride movement...
their slogan made no sense from the beginning
-
still off topic...agree. still old school here when it comes to 4x4s.
did similar climbs with no electronics. only thing modulating engine torque was my foot.
-
That was a bit ugly, and it made a mess of going up the hill....
There have been some who've suggested that a conventional 4WD system in the hands of an experienced off-road driver, would match the EV's capabilities.
These videos clearly show that's not the case - there's just a higher level of capability in the Everest that no amount of driver experience can compensate for
another price tag though
OFF TOPIC
and you just can't beat real driver skills (with the right 4x4)

new traffic laws soon in effect will fine any lowering/lifting of the vehicle, brake mods (putting discs instead of drums) and engine mods (but this can be difficult to prove if its just a ECU mod).
Whatever that article says, what you are suggesting will never happen.
its about new traffic laws and they are already (i was mistaken in my previous post) in effect. no suggestion of mine.

going OT, I still have to see a Japanese car with real leather seats....
here's a comparison of real and "real" leather
and the material used:
-
เครื่องปิดอากาศอัตโนมัติ which literally means automatic device to close air intake
