  1. OP, just curious smile.png . What type of oil have you been using, ie: mineral, semi-syn, or full syn and what km intervals did you renew the oil and filter ?. smile.png

All oil changes done at Toyota dealer, every 10k as per user manual. Mineral oil.

We do live right next to a freeway of sorts so that couldn't have helped. Getting out of the Moo baan takes a bit but probably less than 1 minute. And the wife's usually in a right hurry to go - your classic Fortuner driving soccer mom 555. She's driving the car most days so clearly it's all her fault biggrin.png

@mcdiver thanks for the price quote 25k is half of what toyota wants for presumably a better product...

I thought that might be the case. My personal opinion is a 6000 mile oil change for a turbo engine is too long for mineral oil.

    i tot only full syn = 10,000km?

  2. I looked into the CX5 specs. The performance seems to be lose out quite a bit as compared to CRV. - tell me if I m wrong, u r the pro anyway.

Its known to be green, and its fuel consumption is great. Any idea how much will it be priced?

I guess the ford kuga will not be launched soon? Ford Thailand seems to really slow when bringing a new car over here. I read the long waits on the wildtrak.

The design is really flamboyant, which is quite unique.

Sounds like you may have been comparing specs on models in different markets - here's how the top-spec (~1.5M-1.6M Baht) TH versions will stack up:

    0-100 KM/hr:

    CX-5 2.2L 6AT 4WD - 9.3 secs

    CR-V 2.4L 5AT 4WD - 11.8 secs

    Combined fuel economy:

    CX-5 2.2L 6AT 4WD - 17.5 KM/L

    CR-V 2.4L 5AT 4WD - 11.5 KM/L

    There's a very obvious leader there ;)

Pricing for TH hasn't been revealed yet (indeed nor has the car), but I would expect it to range from 1.0M to 1.6M as per the other players in the segment.

Thanks. That is something worth waiting for.

Not bad for a blend, in fact probably one of the better blends and IMHO way batter than Johnny Black.

OP doesnt state whether he wants a session whisky or a sipping whisky.

If a session whisky, start off with the cheap ass gut rot stuff like William Lawson or 100 Pipers, about 350 baht per bottle and perfectly acceptable with mixers.

For 500 baht per bottle 100 Pipers do an 8 year old blend that again is acceptable with mixers.

For 565 baht per bottle Heaven Hill bourbon in 1 litre bottles, throw in coke and ice and its off to the races.

I tend to stop at these prices for session whiskies, next stop about 2,000 baht per bottle for single malts, sipping whisky, close friends only, the rest are palmed off with the cheap shit.

i m not into bourbon, its more of scotch with club soda for me.

good idea with the 100 pipers.

  4. havent been bar hopping for quite a while.

bought a case of Johnnie Walker Black and started drinking at home, alone.

now i am at my last bottle of black. was thinking get something that taste better than the Black, or otherwise cheaper than the Black and taste somehow the same.

    any recommendations?

  5. i was looking for a replacement for my wifes vios. still not sure which to sell; the PJS or the Vios.

i will most likely change for a car with better image.

I'm going to guess that for you, stepping into the VIOS is hard to do after stepping out of the PJS, but I'm also going to guess that while your wife loves the visibility in the PJS, she still prefers parking a VIOS ;)

Why not consider one of the new smaller SUV/crossovers we'll be seeing in TH next year? The Mazda CX-5 is a great looking car in the metal, and the top-spec model with the 2.2L diesel and 6AT is very nice to drive, to look at and to sit in.. We'll also be seeing the new Ford Escape (Kuga) which if launched with the 2.0L ecoboost engine the US models get is also a great car to drive.. But it is perhaps a little over styled, and Ford doesn't carry the same brand prestige in TH that Mazda enjoys...

  6. Changed your mind?

Last time your purchase choices were:

    1) BMW X1 18i

    2) BMW X1 20d

    3) Merc Benz C200

    4) BMW 318i

    5) Volvo S60

    My vote goes to:

    You found a new acronym.

  7. there are quite a lot of choices for SUV/ PPVs nowadays, so which one is better?

Toyota Fortuner PPV: good on resale value but "old" model / engine

Honda CRV SUV: good on resale value and its a new model, but the consumption has got some bad reviews.

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport PPV: not really good on resale value and the model is dated.

Chevrolet Captiva SUV: The Thai version of the Daewoo, pricey for its performance.

Chevrolet Trailblazer PPV: not sure on the resale value yet, but cant be good. The HP is @ 180 and it weights only around 1.8 tonnes. It should be able to perform better than the tuna/ PJS. Look at Thaicruze’s topic on the servicing of chev in Thailand, it really turns me off.

    Isuzu Mu7 PPV: almost outdated.

Nissan X –Trail SUV: its ugly, and has really bad resale value. 136 HP for a 1460kg SUV is somehow ridiculous.

Ford Everest PPV: Its an antique.

Ford Escape SUV: guess they need the Kuga to relieve the escape. But after 3 recalls in the US, it’s a goner.

  8. (nine pictures attached)

Great thoughts regarding lack of dentistry and no pictures of scrapes on hand. I talked to her on video on Skype -- she was typing fine with her hands and other than lips and knee there was not an iota of scrape anywhere else. There should be significant chance of teeth damage with an impact that cuts the lips so bad.

I must say there is just one significant flaw in the cosmetic surgery hypothesis though. She has always had a particularly full natural lips. The LAST thing she could want to do is augment them further. So, I am assuming that there is something called a lip reduction surgery, or, as somebody pointed out lip reshaping. The images are not consistent with lip reduction unless there is temporary swelling that makes them slightly larger than what they were before surgery.

In fact, I dug up a whole bunch of her pictures and am attaching nine of them. Any thoughts on what specific cosmetic procedure might be recommended for such natural lips?

Don't look that full to me. Seem coyotes with thicker lips.

  9. There is something serious wrong with the Thai culture.

Thai kids spent too much time with the thai kamikaze pop group, k- pop, etc.

The parents n adults feel that it is alright and somehow funny. There r mothers/ parents who encourage their children to dance or pose like the coyotes in a photo/ video.

Most thais don't feel the importance about proper education for their kids.

They spend too much time with Thai/ korean music videos or the Thai soup dramas.

Its difficult find thai parents shopping for proper story books for their kids. Back when I was a kid, I was given books like " famous five", "journey to the center of the earth" as gifts from my parents.

Here, u will see kids reading thai comics, watching weird thai cartoons, Thai soup dramas, etc. There is nothing done to improve on the kids' IQ.

    Its sad. Really sad.

  10. I just finished typing out a fairly long and reasonably coherent post on this and then moved my mouse the wrong way and wound up on a sponsor's site with the post gone…so now to do a quicker and more slapdash effort before bed:

Some of you are, to my mind, remarkably bitter and contemptuous about this whole thing. In my 30 years experiencing this country, I’ve made the Isarn trip with a few different Thai GFs. I’ve never experienced the worst of what was described above and indeed found the experience far more pleasant than not.

I’ve made the trip without sufficient funds to be even a little bit generous and was treated with warmth and generosity. On occasions when I had more money, I never offered myself up to be exploited, was not visibly expected to, and received no ill treatment as a result of that (rather was again, treated well).

I hesitate to say this, and even apologize for doing so, but I can’t help but feel that the more extreme sorts of things some of you had happen is very possibly an indication of something about your behavior or choices and/or the woman whom you accompanied. I personally would never allow myself to be disrespected in such ways nor would I spend any time with a woman who allowed me to be or was actively complicit in it.

Were there ever any instances of behavior by relatives, neighbors or hangers on that I found unpleasant or even intolerable? Absolutely (mostly; though not exclusively, confined to inordinate and downright rude scrutiny and objectification). But my displeasure was quickly picked up on by the woman I was with or I spoke of it to her in a diplomatic and discrete way and it was dealt with.

I always had a good time. It never cost me a lot (and no more than I was willing and able to spend – which, trust me, aint all that much).

Guess u didn't spend enough during those issan trips.

Maybe that's y u had to go there with different gfs.

  11. Hope the wife is not scamming me. I bought a house.

Sent from my XT910 using Thaivisa Connect App

My neighbor thought the same, but in fact he only paid for the purchase and she rent the house.

    1. U need to get a wife who is not a bar girl.

2 . The wife must be a uni grad.

    3. She must be working. With an income of at least 50k Tb/ month.

    4. Downpayment of no more than 1m tb. - she paid. I paid for the renovations and furniture by SB.

    5. Installments to be paid on a fair share of 50/50.

Sent from my XT910 using Thaivisa Connect App

    1) no bar girls because most of them can't seems to find work after they stopped working as a BG.

    2) I was referring to uni grad instead of a uni girl. English educated uni grad in Thailand tend to make more money. They also tend to behave more westernised.

    3) It doesn't mean if u r a farang u have to pay for everything. If u r paying for everything, it is because your gf/ wife is too lazy and will be a real burden to you.

Get somebody who works and live a normal lifestyle. Be like who u r in farangland.

    4) the house is in her name and she should be the one paying for the down payment. If she can't afford to get the down payment, why buy the house then. It doesn't mean she has to get money from her family, she needs to have her savings. Getting a gf who can't make more money than whatever they spend only means trouble.

5)All u need to ask is that if the girl really love u. All the Thai couples I know of are paying all their installments together, car, house or even the credit card bills.

sorry am not arguing here but really find this amazing.if this is your situation then you have very good arangement.I can answer each in my experience but you will see, very different than you.im definatley not lucky!

1.funny that everyone presume this BG thing first.really in behaviour sometime there not much difference in the two

2.Uni girl IMO much more to worry about.can be much more smarter and cunning and exploit law that BG would not even know to do

3 WOW 50k.what job does a girl in bk do for this? most high income i knew from an ex gf be 35k and this at very good job and considered good money

4 again wow.that a normal working girl would have this amount and put on table in relationship with farang partner

5 again wow.im suprise this girl family allow her to do this as many think man should provide ect ect. most would think to say..why you marry below yourself?

anyway, just my opinion.great if you can find this situation in this culture you did very well!

    has she got a sister??wai.gif

    The family doesn't like me.
