it's actually a Daihatsu..
Exactly. The OP is looking at a Daihatsu (Toyota badged) multi-passenger vehicle with a very under powered engine.
Having said that, the price really isn't so bad for what you get.
If the OP is looking for a runaround vehicle which only occasionally has a full load (7 people) - this looks like a pretty decent used buy.

I'd never own one it's destine for the junk heap before it's even hit the road..
Technically, all cars are destined for the junk heap before they hit the road.
Anyways, you can't tell me you haven't seen a Toyota passenger van still rocking way past bed time. Underpowered...yes.
Well built...yes again.

I bought a Honda Jazz about a year and half ago and highly recommend it. Honda recently came out with a new small car, the Brio, that looks nice and is inexpensive.
Had Jazz been on his list of cars he was looking at I would have recommended it too.
Jazz is best in its class for the hatchback segment. Hard to dispute that.

Nissan Teana 2,5 V6 beats them both
So I say to myself - Teana must be the 'asian' version of the Maxima...however according to Wikipedia (Always 100% correct of course) it says this:
The first-generation Teana was sold under the name of Nissan Cefiro in Hong Kong, Singapore, Mauritius, Brunei, Latin America & Caribbean while it was sold under the name of Teana in Japan, Thailand, Philippines, India, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia & China. The car is known as the Maxima in Australia & New Zealand, and Altima in North America.
Altima? The Teana is the Bluebird replacement? I always felt it was more 'Maxima-ish'. Did they skip a segment when Nissan produced cars in Thailand? Where is the Corolla (Altima sized) equivalent?

Most of the posters here will probably recommend the Ford Fiesta due to its advanced...uhh..innards... and tell you the Mazda isn't as well built. (It's quite possibly the truth)
However, from a purely style point of view - and considering you've had success with Mazda before - and my own preference to have Mazda have more wheels on the road over here... I say go with the 2. - Hatchback i hope.
-
I'll hazard a guess here.
It is probably a grey-market import, ie not available at your local dealer. Looks like an Indonesian designed model - probably actually a Daihatsu?
However, 350k for anything 2011 and Toyota isn't a bad deal at all.

Considering how many truck/bike accidents I hear of where the bike rider (regardless of fault) demands and frequently gets a payment from the truck/car driver...I'd let the guy go first.
If you are 100% sure you can make the turn without a close call then go for it.

If you are interested in a new Fortuner, you might want to put your order in when you are here in the next few weeks.
After the tsunami delays, it might be ready by October, but no promises...

Why don't you ask your Thai bank?[...]
We had asked Kasikorn Bank for a loan on land. They refused; only possible with building a house...
Interesting! Thanks for that response.
Any idea if you had decided to buy land and build a house if they would have said yes?
All the foreigner guaranteers that I know were buying hoses that were part of a housing development - or the house already existed.
-
Normally I would assume no, but I have several friends who have secured bank loans for houses.
My question is, if I would like to buy a few rai - undeveloped, basically unused jungle or beach front nothing - can I get a loan from a Thai bank for the purchase? (Obviously under my wife/child's name - not mine)
The idea being to have something to build a retirement home on in 20-30 years when the time comes. Or sell it, who knows!
I'm thinking between 1-3million.
For reference:
I am married to a Thai
We have a child together
She is a housewife
I have been working in Thailand with a work permit for 7 years
I make a pretty decent income
I have a Thai credit history via a Thai credit card
Good references available
Basically I'm just wondering if it is possible or if anyone had heard of a foreigner being the guaranteer on their wife's land loan.
Thanks!

Exactly what that guy said.
Collect your bags, stuff whatever you bought into your checked luggage and then go check in at the domestic terminal.
Viola!

The next 6 months will be a very interesting time for this country's future.

Even though I have nothing to add to the discussion, I'm bumping this to the top so someone might be able to reply and give some more clarity on the issue.
Thread started in 2009...still getting interest, someone must know!

I've been eyeballing them for a while. I really like the exterior look of them. My only concern is the after market service. (I'm not worried about resale, as, if I buy one, I'll drive it for 10+ years)
Watching this video makes me want to have one.

Tickets are 2500b for close up and 1500 for a bit further away.
If anyone needs a better idea of what they are getting into, check out:

For those who need a visual...here is the Mazda 2.

Just to be clear, we are talking about this model, right guys?

Have had quite a few Dodge rental cars, all pieces of sh*t. The worst was the PT Cruiser
I also had the 'pleasure' of renting one of these in Hawaii. Dodge cars - exceptions being Viper and Challenger/Charger - are all crap.
Al Bundy spent 20 years lambasting the Dodge name...with good reason.
Will have to admit though, they do make pretty decent trucks.
-
let me google that for you - probably the F J Cruiser.
Drove from Maine to Boston today, saw about 10 of these on the roads on the 3 hour journey. Looks like they are pretty popular. (compared to the 3 or 4 CRVs I noticed) The RAV4 is by far the most popular 'suv' in the north east, counted 50+...
Have yet to see a 2011 Durango though...
-
If you could import and drive this for less than 10 Million, it is a pretty decent deal. And a hell of a good conversation piece.
Certainly would turn more heads than a similarly priced Porsche would.
-
I'll let someone else post the specs, I'm a bit lazy from photo-shopping.
You have to admit though, they DO look very similar...

Most Thai people I have mentioned Mr Bean to have expressed enjoyment of his antics.
I suspect this sequel will be a hit amongst the Thais.

I'm hoping that this is an early April Fools joke...

DONT BUY OFF PLAN. There are heaps of developments around you can find perfectly good condos CHEAPER now that they are asking off plan.. and they are already built!!!! There are many people trying to get out of the market. IT IS A BUYERS MARKET.
I have to agree. If you are paying cash you are probably easier off finding a better deal buying off of someone who wanted to 'flip' their condo than buying off plan.
Lots and lots of people buy to resell...then realize everyone else is doing the same...

That should give you a good idea of the prices. Your #777 plate might be worth a bit of money...
