  1. Why can't people here at TV use the perfectly good Search function above QUICK SEARCH

If you had, just putting US Social Security you would have found and exhaustive thread

    titled:

U.s. Social Security Survivor's Benefits Surprise: Your Thai spouse not eleigible

    http://www.thaivisa....social+security

    Wise guy....

So Thai spouses are also not entitled to their lanky husbands other incomes as well....?

Incomes from sources such as.... pensions.... incomes from rental.... incomes from trusts.... just to mention a few more closely to home.... LOL :jap:

Thx for your good and time saving suggestion too.... :)

  2. I think you won't find the MC 760 at the moment, (that's been referred too in other areas of Thailand lately on TV).... I know several people waiting to get ... but think CAT are waiting for newer version to arrive... 760 version ( & 727 version which I use ) work reasonably well, as Tropicalevo mentioned... the 840 per month is unlimited time per month... Few glitches on what I use it for....

You buy the dongle.... so you pay as long as you want & you keep the Dongle....or sell it, but get the account transferred ..... if you don't pay there may be a reconnect fee and back charges.... so you might be better to tell them to cancel the service, should you want to reconnect at later date...

It is the same for the MIFI router, the last I checked with some one...

The lower priced cards are slower from what I have been told by those who use them....

CAT does not work in BKK as far as I understand, But does work anywhere I have been in part of southern Thailand.... also in northern areas when you are close to the M W towers.

There are several male staff members who speak English quite well in Nanthon, never had a problem with that.... (just filter through some of the "Thai-isums", I guess once you've lived here for a while, you get use to that!) ;) ...... unless you hit at lunch hour, which can be a problem from what has been posted before.

I pay yearly by Visa card for my service.... I am sure you could do monthly too, but would probably have to go to the Office..... but if you chose to pay monthly by cash you can do at 7-11, but it seems to take a while before first bill arrives in mail... You do need your passport to set up an account.

How much is it? Is IP fixed? Just had a neighbour go through this, They ended up having to set up close to the ring road, as they don't seem to be willing to bring lines up the roads,Soi's) ..... (unless perhaps there are enough people wanting...and willing to pay for the line) I am not sure what they paid to do this set up... or even if they ended up using the CAT service... Will try & find out when I next see them.

I know the neighbours checked all the service providers, including the Forum Sponsor....

    Hope that helps a little....

    Well, if you need speed....

what would stop you from having a private line running from sub-hub to your location....

My location is 1.6 kilometer from the sub-hub....

I paid for the private line, every pole and every clip.... LOL

it was not that expensive.... just under 3k euro.... B)

  3. I am maybe a little different than some of the renters here, as in I wasn't looking at cheap houses, wasn't really aware of how cheap some of them are. That is due to the influence of my "good Thai friends" who were constantly misleading and lying to me.

So I spent many years, miserable, renting homes in the 20-30K baht range, houses much bigger than I needed, houses I could not use 90% of the space because they were basically non-aircon able ...all these big, open area homes, are a total waste, and you will find yourself living in one room all the time, due to aircon, unless you like 37 degrees, or more, with 80% or more humidity. As well, most of the land I got, which I got because of all my pets, were not usable for my pets, because of the bugs, and pests, they never one time went into grassy areas, but stayed under whatever carport I had, or in the house.

Then I also got houses, that were total nightmares as far as absorbing heat ...at 4 am, my house was still 38-40 degrees, even with 5000 baht of aircon going all day ...in a small room. Or I had another house, an old wood one, partially modernized, and all the aircon leaked through the wood, and the street noise, well it was like living in a tent.

And I always lost every deposit, and moved every year, for years, trying to improve my situation. Not because I messed up the house, usually I improved it in considerable ways... just because they use your deposit to pay commission to your "friend, g/f, agent" whatever, and anyway, just plan on keeping it, so that was usually an extra 2 months every year ...lost. Actually that didn't make it much cheaper to live here, than some places in my own country.

I always spent a lot of time looking at real estate, both rentals and for sale. Mostly what you will find for sale, is at least double the price it should be, sometimes 4 times the price it should be. For me, and what I think might be the best deal here, is that I found an older mooban, or is it moobaan? I found one that is 30 years old, and most of the owners are/were upper class people here, and take good care of everything, home prices are more easy to figure out, because they are actually selling on a regular basis, there are a lot of green areas, it is close to the city, as newer villages are way too far away ...and because Thai people don't like used places, I found this was a good area to get a decent deal, as in close to the regular price, no huge farang tax. And I just spent money to improve the place to the standards I like.

I am 300% or 500% more happy here, than I was in 4-5 different houses in CM. But I am sure, I would not have realized, how good this place is, until I lived in many lessor places. I won't be able to say, if this was a great deal financially, until I try to sell or rent, and then maybe get f@@ked from the owner, as I did a usufruct deal here. But I am much happier, being able to control my life, at least for now.

Now, I think I could have found a much cheaper rental than I was finding ( I think I had a stigma attached to me, everyone in CM seemed to know what I paid for previous houses, and even a piece of shit shack, suddenly was 30,000 baht to rent ...seriously, condos 30 K out of town, piece of shit, condos, that really rent for 3000 baht, but that was due to "my great loving Thai friends" who were constantly conning me) so now...knowing everything I know ... I would find cheap rental, fix it up to my standards, and stay there.

However, building can go either way, but the most likely way, is not too good for the farang. You will pay too much for everything, you will get less than you expect, with everything, your Thai woman, or whatever, will probably be getting rich off commission, and not give a dam_n for several reasons ...could be because he/she is too stupid to give a dam_n, shit is what they are used to ...or could be she/he doesn't want to F' up her commission ...even though your Thai partner says she/he agrees with you, that is total BS ...they never think like us, they just say that.

So, in my opinion, everything here is a gamble, but if you dont' even have the CASH to invest, than you can't afford to buy something here. You should be aiming for some home, worth much less than you can afford. If I need to leave my home, either due to lack of sales, or scams from my Thai person ...I won't really suffer too much.

Okay, well good luck with whatever you decide!

I got so very worn out just reading your post.... :shock1:

And there are so many assumptions.... :shock1:

  4. Why does the densest seismic network in the world/such an earthquake prone area have Nuclear Reactors.

Of course they need the power it supplies...but still it makes one wonder.

:Thaiflag: Perhaps, you did not know....

Japan prior to the latest incidents was planning on building even larger nuclear power generator plant....

It is frightening.... how Thailand power that be and the power to be.... could so totally and absolutely influence and control

all media in Thailand.... to shut all news concerning Japan predicament on nuclear power plant explosion following the dreadful Tsunami destruction....

I never thought, Thai newsmen and Thai newswomen and Thai news organizations could be so easily influenced.... manipulated.... and controlled....

    very tragic indeed.... :Thaiflag:

  5. :Thaiflag: Strangely....

Just watched a Japanese news broadcast which said that there was a nuclear power plant explosion in Japan right after the Tsunami....

and that the Russian stands ready to render assistance cause once just several years ago, there was also such similar devastation in Russia....

But did not hear nor see anything on Thai stations....

Does the Thai govt try to tone down the Japanese nuclear power plant explosion news....

so as hopefully it would be able to carry on its nuclear power generators projects in Thailand without Thai people learning about such possible accident in their own peaceful country....? :Thaiflag:

  6. I believe that the DLTV lessons all come from a school in Hua Hin. The teacher wasn't specially selected for her brilliance at teaching English; she's on your screen because she teaches at that school.

(If you think the English lessons are bad, have a look at the French ones. Unbelievably bad.)

Isn't it just bad enough already to bad mouthing English Language taught by superb THAI nationals....

So what if they mispronounce several words in your opinion.... but if the Thai students understood them.... isn't that what count....? :o

You just have to be a Thai to write something like this!

"If <she> mispronounces words but the Thai students understood them" then everything is OK? No everything is NOT OK! Because when those poor misled students try to converse with a speaker of real English (not Tinglish) they

a ) won't understand the English speaker, and

b ) the English speaker won't understand them

I am really on your side, you know.

imho, 99% of Thai teachers attempting to teach English....

should really at least be able to deliver a 15 minutes English speech....

to impress the English native speakers....

to qualify to teach English, particularly in the beginning grades in school, where basic essential emulation, formulation, adaptation and assimilation mostly takes place.... :)

  7. The most complicated question was basically asking what good things ("tom boon's") I have done for Thailand, and the questioner actually used some English to clarify his question.

The Thai word used in the interview.... ทำบุญ pronounced in English as.... Tum-Boon

which means giving alms, doing charity, participating in givings.... as giving money inside an envelop in a funeral....

as many are giving or Tum-Boon at the former PM, his excellency Chuan LeekPai's mother MAE-TUAN (mother Tuan) funeral in Trung....

Her cremation will be tomorrow late afternoon, Saturday late afternoon, February 12, 2011 at the temple adjacent to his excellency residence

where all Tum-Boon have been taken place there.... There have been over 10,000 mourners each day since her return from Bangkok to Trung.

And the flame used for her cremation is officially granted by the Thai Royal family....

If any wishes to go to Trung, there have been several additional flights added to accommodate this occasion.

Our deepest sorrow and condolence to my friend Chuan and all the family members. :Thaiflag:

  8. Sorry for my dumbness but you are applying for "permanent residency" or for "Thai Citizenship?" (I'm a little confused on this. This is where they only allow a few every year and you must have been working in Thailand for 3 or 4 years strait etc etc."?

The reason I ask is that I know if I was to give up my citizenship from Canada and become a Thai citizen, I would lose 25% of my two Canadian pensions AND 25% of my Union pension in Canada.

Not that I would ever want to become a Thai citizen or for that reason can't understand wy anyone would, but I am just curious to learn more about this.

BTW, Good luck with your application and very good informative post.

Do you really need to adhere to only one passport?

There are several farang who own more than one passports and one nationalities....

Can you not do the same....? just wonder.... B)

  9. :Thaiflag: Do the Thai ever remember....

whatever happened to the Well feeding hundreds of thousand of starving Cambodian refugees....

constructed by the international groups and communities within the Thai territorial.... and also the camp sites....

constructed for the benefits of the Cambodian refugee some 3 decades ago....?

The Cambodian govt is now trying to claim those parcels of land as her own by enlisting the assistance of other 6 shameless countries.... going under the label of JBC....

Ahhh, like what the Beatles sang.... when will you ever learn....? ;)

Maybe they should ask the Cambodians HuSen to do the high honor this time....! B)

Nevertheless, I am still a supporter of humanitarian efforts anywhere though.:)

  10. Really wish, he would have called ahead....

Some poor Camb soul could have carried those bags for him....

Just go to prove.... skimping just does not pay....

In reality.... it serves him right....

Now, come the court proceedings.... including proving and confiscating all his snakes and other farm equipments and such....

    Why or why.... :(

What if he were to claim that.... those illegals were winner prize from HuSen casino.... for Thai Chief Customs Officer....?

Boy.... won't that be an interesting twist.... B)

  11. I have nothing but utmost praise and deepest appreciation

for all those involved in Special Needs students program....

whether in Thailand or else where....

You have sacrificed much much more than any other regular class educators....

You are the most hard working bunch but least appreciated sector among educational dept....

By the way, does Thailand require I.E.P. (Individualized Education Plan) for each student enrolled in the program....as govt mandate or otherwise.... pls? :jap: :wai:

  12. It is very strange....

It was Apisit and SuThep who authorized their high ranking deputies to go to court and to testify on behalf of the redshirt core leaders.... so they could be released from custody.... So the court relented and released the core leaders....

Now SuThep was afraid that he red core leaders will do what.....???

Deputy SuThep.... please do jump into the ChaowPaYa River to sanctify yourself and your dirtier than socks political party....

If there ever is any violence and/or blood on the street....

PM Apisit and deupty SuThep and the rest of the democratic party are totally and absolutely responsible for every single drop of blood or loss of human life....

The democrats wants reconciliation from the reds.... so they got it....

The red core leaders are out on the street again.... so what does SuThep have anything to complain about.... really now.... ;)

On even the more important front.... if Thailand ever loses any border territorial to Camb HuSen....

Then, truly.... and surely.... Apisit and SuThep et al.... would have no peace nor place to rest their heads in Thailand any longer....

As Apisit already declared in public that.... if Thailand ever loses an inch of territorial to Cambodia....

then he should not be called the PM, neither should be a Thai any longer, and he should not remain in Thailand at all....

That was his declaration several months ago during a rally.... We'll see....

:Thaiflag:For those who do not read nor understand much Thai....

it appears that the minutes of the records of the past THREE JBC meetings WHICH CONTAINS ADMISSION OF THE ILLEGAL FRENCH MADE MAP ENTITLED 1:200,000 into subsequent management of the cooperative management efforts among the 7 nations which will take place in June, 2011....

will be sneaked through Thai parliamentary meeting and approval in the next few weeks so as to justify JBC to continue to meet next....

without such acceptance and approval from Thai Parliamentary Meeting and Procedure, it would be futile for JBC to meet any further....

The joint management of the territorial around PraVeeHarn temple would be totally impossible....

So, my fellow citizentry.... let the show goes on.... and we all will wait and see.... just how those smart alexes in the Thai parliament could manage to pass and accept and approve those three most important prior minutes.... :Thaiflag:

If and when.... this could be accomplished in the Parliament.... those signatorials affixing their names to approve and accept of such minutes....

will summarily be equaled to traitors....

approving Thai soil.... to be governed by other six nations.... SELLING OUT THAILAND THRU PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURES.... The only recourse left, legally, would be for someone or some entity to petition the Thai Constitutional Court to convene in emergency.... to intervene and declare such Parliamentary procedures.... unconstitutional...

because it contradicts the basic purpose of the Thai Constitutions in giving away Thai Sovereignty to another nation by whatever means or methodologies.... and

furthermore, to name those consenting signatorials.... traitors.... for selling out Thailand interests.... singularly or jointly....

The penalty for traitors as it prescribed in ancient scroll was.... the beheading to the seventh generation.... :wai: :wai: :wai: :wai: :wai: :wai: :wai:

  13. I taught in one of the larger private schools in Bangkok for two years. Of approximately 150 farang teachers, less than 10% had a work permit or any type of four year degree. We nicknamed one of the teachers "Mumbles" because NOBODY could understand him and he was an English teacher (!). The pay was ok, the vacation package was AWESOME, and overall it was bearable. If one wants to teach here, just keep digging and something will come up.

Come on, what is the name of that school, pls?

or least least you can mumble something so as not to violate your secrecy, pls?

for the benefits of us farang..... B)
