So all of a sudden I get replies on funny things I posted on FB , Some young lady loves  my sense of humor and would like to be my friend. So I look at the profile picture and OHHH Baby. It has happened twice , and of course I ignored it.

I am funny , but I am not  funny between the ears ????.

These are not simple friend requests from people I don't know, these are replies from with in conversations I have in the FB groups I belong .

Anyway I posted this as a warning ,Be careful out there.

I am sure I am not the only one this is happening too.

Congratulations on becoming part of the club. Hundreds of young, pretty girls find me fascinating … immediately blocked. Could some few be real … oh, be still my beating heart. But bottom line . I am quite happy here in Thailand with my Thai wife and Stepdaughter.

  2. Not a pickup but I just replaced my Firestone 205-70 15 with Michelin. Firestone still had plenty of tread but they were 6 years old. TyrePlus has a promotion going on. Lifetime tire balance/rotate/align included in the tire cost.

Place your phone, set to record, by your bed for a night. That should tell you if you have sleep apnoea based on your breathing patterns.

Taping your mouth shut is a bad idea, it is causing the headaches.

The usual treatment for sleep apnoea is a CPAP machine.

If you don't have apnoea, possibly something like melatonin or a drowsy antihistamine ( Codiphen ) may help.

Apnea was my first thought also. C-pap readily available here. I sometimes use Benadryl or sometimes an aspirin (aches and pains in the night can disturb sleep).

It has always been the case that an income verification from your embassy is accepted by immigration for the retirement extension. What changed a few years back is that Thai immigration declared it would no longer accept an "Affidavit of income" as proper verification [the affidavit being a document swearing that the person has the income, then getting their signature on that affidavit notarized by the embassy]. The US embassy (for me), and a few other embassies, declared that they would not provide verification of income [the US embassy never provided such a service - at least in my memory]. Thus, US citizens such as myself, are now required to use the 800K method or the income method [proven by bank statements for the prior 12 months].

I retired to Chiang Mai from the USA 12 years ago. Indeed, in the beginning I did use the U.S. Consulate affidavit as to income. It changed since I have been here and so I have used the 65K monthly income method ever since. The understandable action was based on the fact that they took our word about the income, they were only certifying that it was ourselves declaring this. When the Thai Immigration wanted the declaration to equal a “proof of income”, that is when the U.S. stopped as they were not about to deal with verifying income from the various sources were we get our retirement income. Quite different from countries where retirees receive their retirement/pension from one government source. In my case the US Consulate would have to certify my Social Security, plus my drawing on retirement savings account, plus privately earned income from stocks … not feasible to expect as a gov’t responsibility. No “pensions” as such involved.

I believe we are in "the calm before the storm" period. Pita screwed up his chances through either stupidity and/or naivety but in the process, the people's hopes were raised. They will not take this failure lying down. A storm is in the making.

Historically a very dangerous time … when the populations rising expectations are not met.

  6. I confess I came with hopes of finding a great house at a considerable reduced cost. Gave up that thinking some time ago. I just changed from an OA Visa for reason of Retirement to an O Visa for reason of Marriage to a Thai national. When asked about income by the Immigration interviewers who came to the house, I said I knew that I would only be required to bring in 40K a month but that I would continue brining in 65K as that is what we spend almost every month.

Does anybody know repair shop to fix luggage rules in Chiangmai?

May not be applicable but Chiang Mai. Bought my "Eagle Creek" roll-on years and many miles ago. Lifetime guarantee. The wheels were shot. Eagle Creek directed me to the "North Face" shop in Central Festival Mall (they sell/sold the Eagle Creek brand). They replaced the wheels under warranty.

Had two things confiscated over the years. Both I had forgotten had been in my roll-on in a misc. bag with a bit of emergency things. Folding lock blade knife immediately replaced after return home. The latest my "Leatherman Tool" which I had flown with in the roll-on many times. This time out going from BKK on the way to the USA this year.

More than anything else the fotos from his palace reveal appalling bad taste. Just like Trump's Mar a Lago atrocity.

Or Putin's palace. Quite understandable. I am reminded of a thought from the movie. "Enemy of the State". Along the line of ... the first thing they do is to discredit you ... If Putin did not go after him it gives possible credence to top Russian military corruption/incompetence. I'm thinking it would be difficult to find anyone with clean hands among Russia's most powerful.
