  1. Actually the express van from the bus station is ok no more dangerous than a car and driver. I would say the drivers from the bus station are probably safer than a one off guy in a car. I have been on this route many times and have ridden in the express van from the bus station and would ride again.

Moe, this would be an alternative for me. Do you know the company name for this express van? I'll probably go to the bus station and check them out when I am in CNX.

  2. Does anyone know if I can hire a car and driver to get from Chiang Mai to Pai in Dec? Any suggestions, recommendations, prices, etc?

Flying seems too expensive and I really don't want the risk of minivans and buses.

    Thanks.

  3. lol, i will be trying the Tha chin river in the next week or so, have you tried again since. I have just been on the MAE khlong, but it is way to fast to get a grip for any bait prsentation at this time of year. as to the above comments, lol. It s a fish

Yes, I've been back there twice since. Both times there were too much water hyacinths floating by and taking my line along. I fished along the shoreline and got some giant gouramis, not big around 1kg each.

  4. I believe there is an 'Indian Section' adjacent to Yaowarat. Good chance you may find it there. Maybe other BKK residents could be more precise about the location.

Reading other threads about shipping stuff into Thailand, it would seem shipping by normal post gives less (or none) customs hassle. Any stuff shipped thru courier service are declared to customs for clearance by the courier companies.

    Hope you get your cinnamon.

  5. "I'm looking to buy ceylonese cinnamon powder or sticks, I'm not interested in the Thai or Chinese products because they contain too much coumarin."

Yes, I do understand what you mean, as I was looking for the Ceylonese cinnamon too. It's not found locally and I had to place a mail order on a UK website that sells stuff from Ceylon, including teas, curry powders, etc. Here's their website link. Check them out. I'm not related to the people who runs this mail order business.

  6. Hi fellow fishos,

Just viewed a YouTube video on this fishing park. Do anyone has any info on this fishing park? Address, contact, GPS co-ordinates?

I've not heard of it, and a search do not throw up any info except for the YouTube videos.

Any info would be appreciated. Cheers!

  7. Was down at lampang yesterday and we enjoyed it

Did all the touristy stuff, horse rides elephant camps , visiting the local snake markets and went to the sheep place for tea ...the new mall there was nice too although the food court prices was higher than the norm

A good relaxing afternoon although the drive back with the traffic was a tad insane for a while

What's the local Snake Market all about?

It's like a market close to the highway just before town. Big market and lots of snakes in it for tonic soups and meat

I believe there is a 'jungle market' located between Lamphun and Lampang, and It's NOT Kad Tung Kwian Market. I think it's between KTK Market and Lampang. Anyone with the exact location or GPS co-ordinates?

I remembered reading somewhere about this jungle market but could not find the article again, despite googling.

I'm not into game meat, if it's there I'll drop by and look see.

  8. Check out Hidden Holiday House at Nakhon Chasri, in Nakhon Pathom. It's located in the countryside by the Tha Chin River. There are lots of things you can do nearby, and the owners can help you with directions and provide you with your meal. Check their website -

You can call them and ask for Khun Areeya, or K. Chris. They are a husband/wife owner operator. I stay there several times and will be going back again.

    Cheers!

  9. The Bungsamran website states that up to 2kg of fish could be brought home. The entrance fee for Thais to fish there is 400 baht, and I doubt if the Thais fish there just for tilapias. Could be a passing time activity.

I do know that many locals fish at cheaper payponds, like 100 baht per day, and target tilapias and walking catfish to bring home as food. It takes some skill to be a successful tilapia fisherman.

  10. Anyone tried this? Especially along the stretch of river in Nakhon Pathom, specifically in Nakhon Chaisi.

I believe there are some catfishes there, not sure if they're mostly sawai's. I dropped a bait of chicken liver on a single #2 hook in the middle of the river, tied my rod and went for dinner. Back in an hour and all my 20lb line were stripped leaving only 3 feet on my reel.

    Any info, any one?
