  1. I cant get rid of the mange on my dog...any ideas on that?

Vet injections seem to be useless.

There are two types of mange in dogs ... sarcoptic mange (commonly known as scabies) and demodectic mange. The sure way to tell which is which is a skin scraping at the vets and viewed under a high power microscope. The mites are of different shapes. Sarcoptic mange mites looked like roundish louse (lice) whereas the demodectic mange mites looked like a miniature squid without tentacles or like a stake. You can google the images.

Sarcoptic mange is highly CONTAGIOUS and the infected dog must be isolated. If an infected dog scratches like crazy, chances are it's got sarcoptic mange. The mites CAN jump and infect humans too and I know of friends who are victims. This can be greated with ivermectin (brand name: IVOMEC), selamectin (REVOLUTION), Moxidectin (ADVANTAGE), Milbemycin Oxime (INTERCEPTOR) & others, usually applied on the skin, orally or thru injection. I achieved good results by using a douse with diluted amitraz (MITABAN) applied weekly for several weeks.

The demodectic mange is non contagious. It is not so itchy to the animal than sarcoptic mange, and is usually heredictary. Most dogs are born with this mange, but it controlled by the animals immune system until the animal is stressed, then it breaks out. Treatment is same as for sarcoptic mange.

All of these treatment medication are toxic is used incorrectly, and MUST not be used on pregnant and nursing bitches and puppies. Hope this info helps.

  2. Oh! Forgot to add that ivermectin is fatal to sheep herding dogs, like the collie and sheepdog breeds. Also do not administer to kittens.

What about smaller breeds of dogs like Jack Russell etc?

Used properly according to vet instructions, ivermectin is safe for all breeds, EXCEPT for the various breeds of sheepdogs. Ivermectin is used to treat heartworm, flea, tick, mange and mites,

Ivermectin is the name of the active chemical and is available in different brand names such as Heartgard, Ivomec, etc. Check the label for the active ingredient.

  3. This has been a great thread so far. Very informative. I check my dog daily for ticks and she has one or two lately. When she was younger and running around with the neighborhood pack, she had a lot. I took her to the vet's for injections for ticks, but it didn't really seem to help. Giving her a bath every few days did. I never liked the idea behind Advantage/Frontline insecticides either. So I'll stay with the showers for now as the problem isn't very bad. I did forward the url to this thread to a friend who is a vet in the US. I'll be interested what she says about this Ivermectin as she was always big on Advantage...

Different brands of flea and tick treatment contains different active ingredients. These active ingredient perform the same function .... i.e. to paralyse the parasites, and is toxic to animals if injested in larger doses. Most of these medication is applied as a 'drop on' along the spine of the animal. Do not bath the dog for at least 24 hours after application, and the effect usually lasts one month.

Do not apply to nursing bitches and puppies. It can be fatal to the puppies.

  4. Tryed garlic in much higher dosage for 55 Kg rottweiler for 2 months, and it had no effect

Yes, results do vary among breeds. Maybe dosage and frequency could affect results.

  5. Frontline has been around for ages, and ticks are getting immune to the chemical 'fipronil' that is used here.

En-Dex 4000 contains the chemical 'ivermectin' and that's what kills parasites on animals and humans too. You can find a dog shampoo with this chemical and it works just as well too. This works if Frontline does not work.

I have tried giving crushed garlic in the dogs food and found this effectively prevents parasites too. No chemicals needed. Feed 1/2 teaspoon of crushed garlic twice a week for 4 weeks, and then a weekly 'maintenance' does of 1/2 teaspoon.

Alternatively you can feed garlic powder that can be found in most supermarkets. Give same dosage.

And NO, your dog does not smell of garlic. 5555

  7. Just had my car washed yesterday now it RAIN AGAIN!

555 You can wash your car everyday this week, I don't care. Just don't wash it next week. 555

Accuweather.com is still forecasting rain next two weeks, although TV weather forecast seems to be on the sunny side.

    http://www.accuweather.com/en-us/th/chiang-mai/chiang-mai/forecast2.aspx

Just hope it does'nt rain in Borsang.

'Fabrique' can charge anything they want, does'nt bother me cause I'm not going there. LOL

  8. I'm scheduled to visit Chiang Mai from 23 Oct for some fishing at Borsang. I have been following the threads about floods, and it seems the floods have all but gone.

However, looking at the weather forecast, it seems like rain and thunderstorm for the next two weeks.

Any update on the current rain situation? Is it raining heavy most of the days or just start and stop rain conditions.

    Appreciate any update info. Thks.

  9. frankly: Qs l;ike this seem to imply one has to be taken by hand and brought there. is there really not any spark of own thinking?

How to get there: Ever realised that BKk is full of taximeters-able to bring you anywhere in town you ask.

Bus to North-east: what would be more obvious as the aptly named Northern and Nort-Eastern Bus terminal? The Thai call it Mochit-thats shorter. ANY taxidriver will know and probably also know which buscomp. is best for you.

I dont know this tiny place, IF it is along a major road BKk-major town, then there WILL be a bus that also stops there-if you ask. If not: then there WILL be a short local bus or pickup to the nearest bigger market/school/hospital town with a very frequent service direct to BKK. This is so dumb-proof that it works anywhere in the whole of Thailand. People wanting to visit such a place always go to relatives or prospective brides-these are the tipical people who would know best.

Frankly: i really think you hardly got an asnwer as most people would think (as I do and wrote): if someone is unable to think of this by him/herself, then s/he gives the inmpression he better stay home.

So any one who asks a legitimate question on this forum is a moron, by your standards. Apparently you are the only smart one in this planet.

If you cannot help the OP, just shut the f**** up and stop branding every one who asks a question ....

  10. I had fished at BSR before and it's a great lake. There are big fishes and even for a beginner, it's like shooting ducks in a bathtub, but it's fun. However, I found out the hard way that for a lone fisherman, it's tough to land a larger size fish. The farang price is still OK with me.

I had also done Sakuna for a couple of times using bait mixed by the staff, with very bad results. Next time (and there'll be a next time at Sakuna) I'll mix my own bait. LOL

Up in Chiang Mai, Borsang Fishing Park is my fav for now. I can do it alone with good success, and don't have to net the fish at all. Just trying to find more location 'cheapo' locations to see what they are like.

    Cheers!

  11. Does any one know the location of this fishing park or fished there before? How is the catch there and what species are there? Type of bait? Price?

Other than some videos on YouTube, I could not find any other info on Google. The videos are all in Thai, which I do not understand.

BTW, I'm not associated with this park, just a fisherman from outside Thailand trying to find new fishing places in Chiang Mai besides Borsang Fishing Parkl.

    Thanks for any info.

  12. In Feng Shui, direction is everything. However, Feng Shui positions are based on an individual's character, although there are some general rules that may apply to the masses.

If the angled walls or stuff are not done for you, it may be changed. Main thing is that YOU have to be comfortable with whatever directions or arrangements. If you DON'T feel comfortable then change it.

  13. I'm planning to be in Korat for a week in Dec visiting Khao Yai National Park and would like to do some fishing out there.

Anyone with suggestions for places to fish and directions to get there from Nakhon Rachashima?

What equipment would I need to bring along?

    Thanks in advance.

  14. I'll be in Chiang Mai next week for some fishing at Borsang.Read about the recent floods, and wondered if the flood situation is now normal.Anyone knows if Borsang Fishing Park was flooded? If it was, I'll expect some of the fishes to have been lost to the floods.Any info would be appreciated.

  15. I'll be spending a few days fishing in Hatyai again.

thers no sea in hat ai

you can get the thai airways mini van for 50 baht to pacific hotel opp thai air office either way

Thks for the tip. I'll be fishing at the Hatyai Sportfishing Park. Not too large a place but quite inexpensive.

  16. Pure gold of 100% purity is very soft, but NOT liquid.

24K gold (usually termed as pure gold) is NOT 100% pure as commonly available in goldsmith shops. It is actually >99.7% gold, mixed with 00.3% alloy to give it the desired hardness.

Proof gold, as minted, certified and sold as collectors items, such as the Canadian Maple Leave, has higher gold content at >99.95%, with a small trace of alloy for hardness.

Some western countries, like the U.S. as pointed out in earlier posts, do not deal with gold content higher than 18K. They are not used to seeing 22K or 24K gold which is a very deep yellow color. So they might mistaken such purity gold as 'fake'.

    Hope this helps.

  17. I really don't care about the weight of the fish I caught. I'm fishing for fun. Whether I'm targetting predators, carps or just minnows, I'm happy catching them with the appropriate equipment. I had as much fun catching minnows on 2 lb lines as catching araipamas on 30 lb lines.

Anyway I have not met a fisherman that does'nt lie. LOL

  18. Check with EVA if they will label through.

You might indeed need to go through customs and immigration at Suv, and thus collect your bags and check in at domestic.

The Thai flight from Bangkok to Krabi would be departing from and arriving at the domestic terminals. There would be no immigration clearance.

Upon arrival in Bangkok you will need to clear Thailand immigration and customs, collect your baggage and head over to the domestic departures for your Thai flight to Krabi. Upon arrival in Krabi you will pass through domestic arrivals with no immigration checks.

If there is no arrangement between EVA and Thai to accept check-through luggage, then Thai will NOT accept your baggage in Bangkok for the Krabi flight. Do not risk this.
