  1. Not sure what you mean by RR station,

The night train to Singapore leaves from KL Sentral which is the main transport hub of KL. There are 2 left luggage offices, the one opposite the ticket booths is the easiest to use but bear in mind they do close at 9pm and your train doesn't leave till 11pm, not sure what time the other one closes, it's just near the Air Asia office.

  2. That seems a lot of money??????

Speed shop 1st floor Pantip Plaza. Up to 17,000 baht.

17,000 baht for a life, it all depends on how much you value your life. I think I'd opt for two just in case i misplaced onemellow.gif

    Here we go!!!!

I asked for some advice and stated that I though 17000 baht was a lot of money.

I didn't ask to be patronised. If you value your life that much then surely you would spend your money on a car not a motorbike!

  3. I imagine VOA and Visa Exemption are not the same.

U.K. passport holders receive 90 day permission to stay stamp with no visa necessary when entering Malaysia in the same way they would receive 30/15 day stamp on entering Thailand without a visa, so don't panic, you'll get 90 days as I did a few days ago.

Yes, The Air Asia web site is as good as it's service - sh*t - I've just booked a flight with them and because I use Google Chrome it would not process neither would an older version of Internet Explorer so I had to download the new version. how can a company this big not have the expertise to allow bookings from other web browsers?

As previous posters have said, a British passport holder gets a 90 day visa exemption. Wish Thailand would do the same!!!

  4. After reading about Mad Dogs I decided to go there for the first time this morning. I had an American breakfast that was really nice and a good price, the staff were pleasant and as I've said the food was good.

I moved to Chiang Mai 3 weeks ago and have come across some wonderful people of all Nationalities, this morning at 10.30 was the first time I was embarrassed to be British, there were 2 English guys in their mid 30 thirties who were sloshed out of their minds, shouting and swearing. Don't mind it to an extent on an evening but so early in the morning - Why is it tolerated? They were a disgrace.

I will definitely go there for my breakfast again, just hope it's a more peaceful environment.

  5. The Thai elite class are doing great as they can keep investing heavily OUTSIDE of Thailand. But this does not bode well for the rest of the nation and key Thai industries. For example, the Thai auto industry is 80% parts manufacturing with much of that for export. The industry as a whole just stated that they can remain afloat (i.e. not profitable) with the baht-to-US dollar at 31-32, but cannot sustain below that. Jasmine rice to the US now comes from many other countries such as Vietnam. Also many expats are having to pull up stakes and get out if this continues. Malaysia right now is heavily targeting Thai expats to take advantage of the strong Baht with tax exemptions and many other financial incentives.

Spot on !!! The elite couldnt care about the average working class Thai and do invest heavily outside Thailand while the Baht is high, once they are beaten at the elections and policy changes, the rate weakens and they then repatriate their investments...of course at a very beneficial Baht rate to them.....I would say though, the Malaysian Ringitt has strengthened more than the Baht this year so not such a great place to up sticks and go.... about the only place left to go in SE Asia is Cambodia..

The Malaysian Ringgit is definitely stronger to sterling rather than the Baht . I've just spent 2 years in KL and moved to Chiang Mai mainly because of the exchange rate and cost of living.

  6. I would feel really REMISS in not telling you about this little gem.

First thing to know is that it's a little out of the way (for some) but once you get to know its location it's easy.

Secondly, it's only small and will not, IMHO, comfortably serve a large group, but for 3-4 persons, just perfect.

Newish place with pleasant decor and good ambience. Will switch on air-con when you arrive without having to request. An extremely accommodating and pleasant and experienced proprietor.

Dishes around the 50 baht mark. I have not yet tried one that I didn't like. All farang food. Really and truly recommend this place. Just don't go with a large group and run the risk of spoiling your meal..

    Where ?

Travel up Huay Kaew Rd towards Doi Suthep. Cross Canal Road, keeping to your left lane, and see the "Dunkin Donut" on your left ( on the corner). Turn left immediately after the Dunkin Donut into a Soi which runs directly behind it and continues for some fairly long distance parallel to the Canal Rd. The very first turn left ( back towards Canal Road )is it !. A short distance down on your left you will find a white pillar numbered boldly, 50-52 . Drive into the parking lot. NOI'S CUISINE is at the entry on the right hand side.

Alternatively, if you were travelling northwards on Canal Road then, when you were approximately opposite City Life's offices, you would turn left into Soi 4 Canal Road and find Noi's, a short distance down, on the right.

Open from 10.00a.m. through to evening dinners.

You will have to have lost your taste-buds not to find something delicious here. Trust me ! But don't abuse me if you don't agree !!! No refunds !

    Cheers and bon apetite !

    Bugger me!! - Not Literally

I was looking on this forum wondering where to eat tonight.

I moved to Chiang Mai 10 days ago and when I saw this post I realised it was only a 5 minute walk for me. So I went and really enjoyed, the dish was a fish steak with lemon butter sauce and the usual veg. The presentation was one of the best I've come across in Thailand and the taste was perfect. The restaurant is done out OK but the food sells the place.

110 Baht for the meal and a bottle of Chang - I was robbed!

Will become my local eatery from now on, thanks for letting everyone know about it.

    Paul.

  7. Hi,

Until a month ago I used to live in KL, always flew with Malaysian airlines which was direct to KL from Manchester. Then they stopped flying from Manchester about 4 years ago so therefore no direct flights.

I started using Emirates and they were the best price, a stopover of 2-3 hours in Dubai was not a problem, in fact it was nice to stretch the old legs and bum! The food, entertainment and leg room was brilliant.

The past couple of years the choice of menu has been limited and the crew are not as attentive as they used to be for drinks, now I just get up and go to the galley for my own.

I flew with them to Bangkok a fortnight ago and paid £560 return from Manchester, most I've ever paid. The airbus is a dam_n site bigger plane and more legroom and seems to be wider seats. I flew with them once business class, it was OK but not worth the difference in price albeit I was upgraded free of charge.

If you are going to fly with them on a regular basis then don't forget to join their frequent flyer programme.

  8. I agree with you on the 15baht fare for the 30km journey (with no train change). It's dirt cheap. In comparison, KLIA Transit 'commuter train' in Kuala Lumpur requires one to take a train to, say, Putrajaya (RM6+), then alight there, buy another ticket to KL Sentral (RM9+) and wait for another train (20 minutes) to save 50% of the RM35 express fare. That's for a journey of 75km. Therefore km-by-km, Suvarnabhumi's airport link is far cheaper. In Thailand it's state-run whereas in Kuala Lumpur, it's state-crony-run. :-D

Last time I checked people travelling on such a tight budget that they would do that to save RM15 on a trip to the airport were not taking the train, but the RM9 bus to LCCT ;)

There is no train from LCCT !! You can catch a bus to KL Sentral for RM8 or from KLIA RM10

  9. Thanks for the directions. How far is the condo to the city centre? Apparently the spelling should be T.Suthep A.Muang. I presume that when I show the address to a taxi driver at the airport he'll be able to take me there without any problem?
