  1. My experience thus far is that eggs at the local market are far fresher than at supermarkets (big c extra and tesco). Don't know if that holds true as a rule or just bad luck on my part.

Only thing that worries me about the markets is them sat there in the heat. Rimping's eggs seem hit n miss, freerange or whatever. Spose the supplier can put whatever date they want on the carton, and actual packing date doesn't mean squat anyway unless it's right out of hen into carton. One thing I do miss is seriously good eggs and bread, oh, and beer. :)

<div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div> Just bought eggs from the source you mention, begins with an  "R and ends in ..ping" with a "best by date" of two weeks hence. Tried the water test and all of them were old and lay on their sides, indicating that they were not fresh.

    </div>

Do you mean that the eggs laid on their sides at the bottom of the water? If so then that's the sign that they are at their best.

If they float then throw them away.

  2. My 1 year Temporary Motorcycle Licence is due to expire on the 24th November.

What is the procedure to make it a 5 year licence, what documents, if any, do I need? Do I re-take the test?

I'm out of the Country from the 22nd November till the 5th December, can I renew it before I leave the Country or will I be able to apply when I arrive back? In other words is there any lee-way from the expire date?

  3. Like the other replies, I see flats of eggs delivered daily to the open air markets. That is about as fresh as you can get.

I see packaged eggs in the super markets with packing dates on them. I never worry about the date, just buy what is available where ever I am when I want eggs.

I have never had a bad egg, expired egg, old egg, or if I did I could not tell. What is the difference? How would you tell the difference if you bought, say, a 3 day old egg instead of one delivered today? And what is delivered today is not an egg laid today, so...?

You would know if you've had a bad egg, well MY stomach would definitely know, it's not nice!!

The art of it is to submerge the egg in cold water and if it stays at the bottom then it's good, if it floats then throw it away. The fresher the egg the more it will stay flat on the bottom of the water, once the tip of the egg starts to turn upwards then it needs using soon.

  4. Hi,

I got a multiple entry O visa from Hull last month, they said that all I needed was to send them a copy of the birth certificate of my daughter, preferably translated into English.

I also sent them a letter from my partner with a copy of her ID card on the letter, signed by her, stating she relied on my support. I sent the application through the post on a Monday and received the visa on the following Wednesday.

    Hope this helps.

  5. Just been in touch with Aya Travel as I'm wanting to go to Pai tomorrow and they said there's no problem with the road. They use that route on a hourly basis.

  6. Met Philip and staff on Saturday night, had the stew and dumplings and very nice it was, the wife also enjoyed her Thai food.

Cheers for the discount on the drinks and also many thanks to the customer that offered to pay my bill because he accidentally touched my wife! Wish now that I'd taken up his offer!!!

Writing this while I'm in the airport waiting for a flight to England, really depressed now!

Looking forward to returning next month and will be having the stew and dumplings again.

  7. did the holiday inn 199b today average to say nice placel but food very similar to camp food theres got to be a better buffet have allready done the g view

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the Shangri-La Hotel. 320 Baht with a free discount card and a variety of different cuisine, the only downside is that the price doesn't include tea or coffee but unlike Grandview, the water is free.

  8. I have seen Ceylon(Sri Lankan) tea in both Rimping and Tops, cannot remember

the brand but was definitely from Sri Lanka.

Word of caution bringing in tea through customs ,my daughter was very lucky

that they let her through with my supply of Yorkshire tea ,they found something

else they could levy tax on ,but said next time it would be confiscated !!

Twinnings is expensive,Liptons not strong enough ,even if you left in cup

all day,and the brand manufactured in Chiang Mai,not good enough.

    kind regards Worgeordie

I hadn't realised that it was a problem to bring food and drink into Thailand?

  9. I believe bars are closed yes. Friday is the holiday, not sure about the weekend. I'm sure Millwall Fan can answer in more detail.

I have already rescheduled my Night of Misbehavior and Drunker Depravity to Thursday.

I think it's one where good Buddhists are supposed to abstain from alcohol,

Actually, good Buddhists are supposed to ALWAYS abstain from alcohol. It's one of the 5 precepts. ;)

    http://en.wikipedia....i/Five_Precepts

    Same for Muslims.

So the World depends on us Christians and ex-Christians for some proper boozing!

Millwall Fan went back to North of England, NOT WALES, yesterday for a couple of weeks. He is Welsh but obviously prefers England!!!!! He ain't that bad then!!

  10. Nobody has any ideas?

These are the 20 Pound notes with Michael Faraday? on them.

(yes I am simply bumping this, but I am adding new info ;)

As far as I'm aware, they are no longer legal tender. The only place that will exchange them is the Bank of England in Threadneedle St. London

  11. Went there Yesterday

A Little bit disappointed really, had 2 Samosas, Chicken Tikka Masala , and Yellow rice.

Filling in the Samosas was good but didn't enjoy the Spring roll pastry, I suppose it is a personal thing but I prefer Samosas in a traditional dough type of pastry.

The Chicken Tikka Masala was very poor in my opinion, the thing that stood out straight away after the first spoonful was a taste of sugar, just to much, and it kept coming back after every other spoon full.

I thought the chicken (Tikka) should be marinated over night then put on skewers and put under a grill or on a barbecue, before being added to the Masala sauce, clearly in this dish it had not happened, clearly there was no visible grill or charcoal/barbecue marks on the chicken,

The yellow rice although it was not a pilau rice (just some good quality rice colored with Turmeric) was excellent had not been over cooked or sticky and left me with the thought of just how much I need to improve the quality of the rice I make when making Pilau rice.

Good value for money well I would have to say value for money.

Couldnt fault the service , or the relaxing location

Should I go back and try some thing else or move on. I have Le Spice, Bombay Resturant and New Delhi on the list of places to try...what do you think ?

    TB

I have to say that I went there yesterday too and had Chicken Tikka Masala and a plain Roti.

You are right about the Tikka not been prepared correctly but I still enjoyed the dish and it didn't come across with the sweetness you experienced.

As previous posters have said, the Roti could do with some improvement.

Overall I think the dish was good value for money and I'll certainly return to try the other dishes, I'm glad I came across this post otherwise I would never have known about it.

Le Spice, Bombay and New Delhi I was disappointed with. There is an Indian down Loi Khroh Road that's worth visiting, but can't remember the name, it's opposite the main entrance to Duangtawan hotel.

I'm going back to the UK next month for a few weeks, now there's a place where you get proper curries in most towns, my mouth's watering already!!

  12. There is a restaurant called "Al Dente" that serve reasonably decent pizzas, aptly named as it's owned by the Dentist next door!!

It's a new place that's has nice seating area outside and aircon inside the restaurant, not easy to find but worth the effort in my opinion.

Drive west on Huay Kaew road until you come to the traffic lights where the road meets up with Canal Road, on the left is Phucome Hotel and Dunkin Donuts, just behind this is Soi 3, between Dunkin Donuts and a bank, turn left on this Soi and carry on until the first right which is the end of the back of Phucome Hotel and the Restaurant is down there.

  13. sansai sam

Thanks for the recommendation, I had the Lemon Meringue today and it was as nice as my Mothers, now that takes some doing!!! I need to try the Apple pie next time and see if that's up to Mothers standard.

  14. The principle of Ockham's Razor suggests the phonemes 'mu' ... 'ng' purportedly heard by the OP were the Thai pejorative third person pronoun, said when the Thai actors in this psychodrama were discussing him. We leave the translation of that pronoun (a dangerous one for a farang to ever use) as an exercise for the reader (our own translation would be some melange[1] of the English words 'a*hole,' 's*head,' 'dufus,' 'poltroon,' 'd*head').

If, and the OP does not state this is the case, he heard the phonemes above in combination with some form of 'b/p ... 'n,' then another interpretation is that he was being referred to idiomatically as the "village idiot" (mun baan), which makes perfect sense in the light of the events fictionalized here.

The credibility of this story converges towards absolute zero, however, the fabricator of this story, ioho, shows creative promise worthy of possible future membership in the cult of memorialists of 'Le Craw,' the mythical paradise conjured in the heads of a certain class of farang, loosely incorporating, as 'lost Eden,' as 'Garden of Earthly Delights,' a one-hundred meter strip on a street in Chiang Mai full of whores.

We look forward to future souffles-that-do-not-quite-rise, but do amuse in their falling, by this up-and-coming (down-and-going ?) budding (rooting ?) entertainer (entertainment ?).

[1] we do not use the word 'melange' here in the geographic sense of "a mappable body of rock characterized by a lack of continuous bedding and the inclusion of fragments of rock of all sizes, contained in a fine-grained deformed matrix." but, yes, that would be tempting, particularly since it comes from the same French root from which the word 'melee' comes.[2]

[2] see Wikipedia entry for 'melange'

[3] see Wikipedia entries for boring and drivel. ;)

  15. I don't understand how the OP considers this a "scam." I can't see how this can be a scam unless the OP has paid for something that Air Asia refused to deliver.

This subject comes up once a month on TV's Travel forum with the same result. Travelers with flexible schedules who can book in advance get great deals from AA.

As for Bangkok Air, they are usually my second choice. Yes, they give you 20 kg of free baggage, but if you exceed that you're probably better off with AA who will allow you to purchase 30 kgs without any overweight charges. And do you really need to pick your seat and get a free "meal on a one hour flight from CNX to BKK???

You can actually get 30Kg luggage with Bangkok Airways at no extra charge, all you have to do is join their frequent flyer scheme. You can then use the lounge as well, coffee, soft drinks. snacks etc. unfortunately no alcohol !!

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

AirAsia charge (at the moment) 80 baht per kilo overweight on their CNX>BKK run. Not too much to pay. There are yet cheaper options with pre-payment.

So, paying the extra 400 baht to carry the 20kgs (5 kg overweight) is still cheaper than most, if not all, other airline fares with more "generous" baggage allowances. (My arithmetic is usually correct).

AirAsia's the one for me.I always have extra money to spend at my destinations - and I love their super specials. Can't be beat.I am more than happy to yield a little of my overall savings and pay a small amount for a sandwich or light meal (good, I might mention)and to select a seat with more than usual leg-room on longer flights.

    Scam ? I don't think so.

    Cheers.

Must say i like the idea of a lounge in which to languish. AA don't have that..yet !

I agree, I use both airlines when it's beneficial to me.

Booked a single ticket from CNX to BKK a couple of weeks ago and it cost me 1200 Baht with Bangkok Airways, promotion price. Air Asia was going to be just over 2000 Baht with all the add on's. A few months ago I paid 2300 Baht for the return trip including 15 Kg of luggage one way and 30 Kg return with Air Asia, again a promotion price.

Both airlines work well for me - I love promotion fares!! You just need to be flexible.
