  1. I take it that you are one of the gun lobby rednecks that think everyone should carry a weapon or dont you care who carries a gun or why. AS far as I know it is illegal to carry firearms in most western countries especially when it is so openly displayed as this was.

I not American, so I cant be a red-neck, further I carried a concealed firearm for many years in one country I lived in and used it a counple of times in "anger"...as to being part of the gun lobby...you couldnt be further from the truth, I personally dont believe fire arms should be carried by anyone in civvy street.

It may be illegal to carry a firearm in most western countries, but the last time I looked Toto, you aint in a western country...the guy concerned didnt nothing to you, but yet you called him crazy and a w*nker and started questioning the legality of what he is doing, if you believe what he is doing is illegal talk to the BiB then

There are rednecks in every country, not just the USA. Jeff Foxworthy (an American comedian) said that if you drive 40 km outside of any large city you will find rednecks. I think this is very true. Rednecks are rural/farm people, that some would say are not sophisticated.
  2. I bought a DTAC sim card at 7-11. Unlimited internet for 7 days and 100 minutes for the phone for 299 baht. We are in Lahansai Buriram at the moment and I am using my android phone (samsung exhibit 4G phone) as a mobile wifi hotspot. DTAC coverage is really good around here, I have been pleasantly surprised by the speed.

  3. not all Thai person spend everything

I don't have car, only scooter

when I have money more then I need I look to give to family or buy some gold

my family very happy with me and I have 4 baht gold

    Thai person not all same

I never go your country England, but I am sure same there, some save, some spend

Best advice is not to get credit card, easy money later come back to bite

Very wise words. In the USA some save, some spend everything and hope the government will take care of them. I also agree with the credit card advice, I have one for traveling but it is very easy to get in over your head and have a bunch of high interest rate debt.

  4. A pizza without cheese is like a day without sunshine.

It's like a bar without beer.

Or a bar serving only Bud.......

I didn't realise Bud was beer!
It is not very good beer, but a good many of the UK sailors stationed in Faslane Scotland seemed to prefer Budweiser to the local brews. As an American sailor on liberty I thought it was pretty funny, as I ordered another fresh Guinness and watched the foaming head change into dark colored drink of pure goodness.

  5. " Maybe Thais don't deserve the reputation that the have, but I'd venture to say that stereotypes exist for a reason. It's not like someone just spontaneously decided one day that Americans are culturally insensitive, or the French are rude, or the Japanese ethnically insular and the half of humanity bought into it willy-nilly. Thai women have a reputation, and foreign men are advised to tread lightly for a reason."

Wait just one cotton picking minute, Americans are no more culturally insensitive than any other developed nation (Australia, England, Germany). Go to a working class pub in any of these countries and see how much cultural sensitivity most of the patrons express. I would wager that there would not be much difference, and they would not be overflowing with cultural sensitivity.

  6. What an absolute pl**ker! News like this does not get out unless leaked. Many very rich Thai people have done this. This was leaked by someone in Issan wanting to gain the publicity and face.

I wonder if she has flat feet and splayed toes as most farmers daughters have:cheesy:

I wish them good luck. Amazing Thailand.

What is wrong with splayed toes? I think nothing is wrong with them and they are not the first, second, or third asset that my eyes are drawn to on a woman. I have to say that if the top three assets are outstanding, I could not care less about the appearance of someones toes.

I personally think it is silly to wear shoes that deform how your toes should naturally look if you don't have to.

There are good people everywhere and it is wrong to characterize every woman from Issan as being a cheesy farmers daughter with feet you find unappealing.

I wish the newly weds a happy life. After nine years, he should know exactly what he is getting into. 100 million baht is a bunch of money, but it is his to do with what he wishes. His wish in this case was to give his mother and father in law very comfortable lives.

  7. Super easy to make. Type Hawaiian pickled onion recipe into Google. Vinegar, water, sugar, and a chili or two. Cut the onions in quarters and pack into a jar, bring the other ingredients to a boil and pour into the jar with the onions. Let sit on the counter for 24 hours and then refrigerate. I like to use sweet onions and let them set in the refrigerator for two or three days before eating.

  8. In my area the Monks begin the daily Alms rounds early. In my area we begin our house hold work early to avoid the heat of the day. In our area we work up until 10pm most nights (again to avoid the heat) which means bedtime around 11 or midnight. In my area we do not sit in a bar drinking until 3am, sleeping in until 2 in the afternoon. But these are just some of the reason why normal people get up early, get work done, sleep during the hottest time of the day and then start again.

Sometimes I truly miss my bar hopping days as a tourist.....

I'm sorry but I really don't know which country you are from but in the West, normal people don't get up at 5:00am!

Normal people in Western countries work from 9:00am-5:00pm,they don't get up when it's still dark and fall asleep on their feet for the rest of the day!

I have gotten up before before 5 AM since I was eighteen years old, I am now over 50 years old. Don't know if I am normal or not but I wake up early for work everyday.

  9. I still say that this is an example of something that is easily fixable in the US, which has plenty of resources.

There is only the will or the lack of will to solve this problem that stands in the way.

I believe that situations such as you describe will be far fewer in the future when society, even in America, becomes more developed and more understanding about the root causes of poverty and lack of education and suddenly finding oneself destitute.

Too many argue that this problem is not one with which the government should become more involved.

    But they would be wrong.

This is not a popular opinion in America because there are too many who do not understand that this is not socialism.

If we do not change our society in the US to better handle our changing society then some of us will be faced with some unexpected and unwanted consequences.

If you know the government is going to take care of you why be responsible? Don't save for retirement, don't invest, spend everything you earn and have a great time. This is the route many take, the government policies enable people to be irresponsible. They mean to do good, but end up encouraging poor habits.
  10. I am almost past caring about people being taken by these well known confidence scams. If it seems too good to be true, guess what, it probably is a scam. I have come around to think of this as a survival of the fittest scenario, except without all the blood, screaming, and death. Trick me once, shame on you does apply but in the internet age you should be able to learn from the stupidity of others.

So this in the internet age maybe this old saying should be modified to "Trick me once with a scam that is easily discovered if you know how to use Google, and you deserve exactly what you get".

If there is no price for stupidity, pretty soon the whole world will be idiots.

    Sorry, rant over.

  11. Helmets for bicycles, wow. What next, wear a helmet whilst walking in case you trip and bang your head on the kerb?

Why stop there? Maybe some elbow and knee pads so you don't scrape them if you fall while walking? What about requiring steel toed shoes and safety glasses at all times. I have read about dengue fever being an issue maybe the government should mandate long pants and shirts?

Helmets are common sense if you drive a motorcycle, I would wear one if I rode but that is my decision. I think people should wear a helmet, however I do not think the government should make it a law. Life is full of risks and decisions, I don't expect the government to manage all of them, but some people do.

  12. Ah, the cultural superiority comes out. Much of our awareness for road safety has come from 40+ years of public education. Thailand has barely started down that road.

I'm frankly amazed when I go to Europe or the US and see people riding bicycles without helmets. Why? They've been compulsory in Australia for 25 years.

I don't think I would like to live in a place where you have to wear a bicycle helmet. I like a place where the government is not in control of everything. Some people like it, but then again some people still live with their parents when thay are 35 years old.

  13. The world would be a better place if everyone was judged on their actions and the content of their character and not by what race, sex, or color of skin they have. Someone else said it much better.

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by their character."

    Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech, August 28, 1963

  14. Throughout the world there are really only two types of people, those that are good and those that are bad. I don't care where you were born, what job you have, how much money you make, where you live, or what color you skin is. What matters to me is if you are a good person or not. If you are surprised that there are honest people in Thailand I would suggest that you get out of where you are and see more of the country as this has not been my experience.
