    Can you translate that?

    You're over 170kg?

You think it will get to 170kph in no time?

You think the price will be over 170k thb?

    ha ha ha

i meant to wrote "see myself fork over 170k

means I am ok with the price of 170000 bht

I weigh 93 kilos, imagine a 170 kilo guy riding ninjette

you are a 200 pounder who wants a ninjette?

now i understand why you are so worried about your shopping.

  2. These laws have been in effect since at least 2007. You can download the TV calendar for national holidays here: http://www.thaivisa....-calendar-2012/

But you do need to keep up with the news for local election dates. I hope you know the Queen's Birthday is celebrated on the 13th as well as the 12th, since it falls on a Sunday. You could always pick up a Thai calendar at your Thai bank at the end of the year as well.

I thought I remembered these back when I first got here in 01, or is this a case of manufactured memories?

I looked up the alcohol laws the other week and I think that most of the current lame laws were enacted in 2006 or 2007. But I don't really want to research them again. I could be wrong about the year, but who cares? I do remember some of the liquor laws changed that year. One could buy beer at the gas station before that and anytime of the day... It's whatever the law is now and of course we have to deal with the selective enforcement of those laws.

the laws have been enforced to varying degrees for as long as i can recall. I arrived the day of the kings birth in 96, and we had a hell of a time finding a drink.

  3. I agree with Beetlejuice's comments.

To the OP......just go into the bar, order a drink and ask "who wants a game of pool?"

Let the night evolve and don't act like a jerk, you might find that the "hottie" will want to be part of the fun that you have started once she realises that you are a decent sort of bloke that doesn't have a chip on his shoulder.

Remember, this is their living and you are on their turf.........as stated before, you have been assessed, stripped, future read and conclusions made in the first 10 seconds that you step foot on the premises.

Just have fun....and don't worry about the hotties.......looks aren't everything.

    Cheers.

kind of like what the punters are doing with the girls....

  4. I haven't had a bag of Lays Crisps in a long time,I got fed up with 80% injected air,and 20% Crisps, which made up a bag full of nothing!

The reason for the air is to keep the product from being crushed, the reason for the oversized bag compared to the amount of chips - marketing.

Agree with the first part, but when does marketing end,and profiteering begin?

when the weight on the bag is also misleading

  5. Yeah, I know what you mean. They might just take the money and still close shop the next day anyway !!!

Yeah, we'd have to pay them one month in arrears. They stay open for a month, they get their money at the end of that month.

Can you imagine how the people who joined over the last 2 weeks must feel. This is more than just a gym closing. It's closing a lot of peoples' hope to get into better physical shape. There isn't a suitable alternative fitness club in Pattaya for most members. I can't see most of the members being interested in sweating it out at Tony's dumps. The more experienced diehards will continue elsewhere, but the drop off rate will be astounding.

I'm dreading having to train at Tony's again, but that's probably where I will end up. Right now I'm going to try working out at Castra for a month, but it's 8km from my house compared to 1km for Tony's, so that ride will get old real fast.

Its The Avenue of Broken Dreams

  6. Freind of mine sent me this in an email:

Where is the best place to buy art supplies? I.e. all types of paint, brushes, canvases, pencils...you name it, I will probably buy it. I'd prefer in the long-term to be able to buy bulk and get it delivered but I need to source a decent supplier first.

Does any one have any suggestions? He is located on Koh Phangan.

Thanks in advance from us both.

  7. It's true. Many of us have become extremely suspicious when it comes to the strange ways foreigners supposedly take their own lifes in this country. But then again...

Where was the wife that it warranted 80 phone calls and such a pitiful "suicide" note? Looks to me like the wife had left the Swiss and he thought she wouldn't return.

Why didn't she pick up the phone? What was she busy with that she ignored 80 phone calls? Maybe she just wanted to "punish" the Swiss...

Why was she found crying lying next to his corpse? When exactly did she return and why and from where?

Self-stabbing is certainly an extremely uncommon method of committing suicide (unless you're an ancient Roman, of course). Why is the police coming to conclusions so fast?

How authentic is that suicide note? Is it in the deceased's handwriting? Can this handwriting be verified? Is it not too early to attribute it to the Swiss man without comparing the handwriting?

Has the Swiss man's mobile phone been checked? Have some 80 phone calls to his wife's number been made? If yes, in which time window, prior or after the estimated time of death? What were the intervals between individual calls?

I am NOT saying the man has NOT committed suicide. I am merely implying that it is too early to come to preconceived and easy conclusions. But our BiB are great at that, especially when foreigners are the victims. Remember those 2 Canadian girls on Phi Phi? The local police almost immediately came forward branding their deaths as "clear cases of food poisoning". Likewise for the several deaths in one single Chiang Mai hotel last year. Those also were touted as " cases of food poisoning".

Some truly epic speculation from someone who could not even be bothered to properly read the OP.

  8. “Teerak [My love] Can't stop loving you - wish you all the best - you are the woman of my dreams - good by

not sure, if a 50something swiss banker would make such a mistake?

to me it sounds also a bit very "blethering"...

...and, why was his wife not there?

it appears strange, that people wake up in the morning, and stab themselves, first thing...

whats wrong with his usage of are?

  9. It's not your fault because you're a white guy - it's your fault because you have no control over your dogs.

What??? Absolutely everyone around here allows their dogs to run around freely without a leash, so I just followed suit and did the same.

They just recently discovered where the chickens are, so hopefully it's just a phase.

do the other dogs come home with chickens? if no then it is you and your lack of control of your animals.

  10. but couldn't the blether be seen as tickling the cow?

what kind of response is he expecting to this?

the whole premise seems inflamatory in nature.

My mere existence seeems to be inflammatory to you coffee1.gif

    Anyway......I've just fed a troll.....me bad. ermm.gif

i personally do not attack new posters, but i respond as i see fit.

apparently, anyone who does not share your world view is a troll.

i am emphatically not anti-thailand, or anti thai nor do i sport rose coloured glasses.

i accept you dislike me, fine, so should i have my posting rights removed?

i personally dont think so, though i suspect it is inevitable. your thinly veiled call for a wicth hunt may well bear fruit.

    your ego astounds me.

  11. This is a very usual case for several reasons.

    (1) It is a documented fact that even wild animals seem to have a sense that infants are different and do not pose any threat. Short of flat out predators, who would still have to be very, very hungry, it is rare to see an attack on a baby.

    (2) It is much more rare to see a dog attack an infant

    (3) The breed, Labrador is known for a gentle nature and at least in my part of the world, is not classed as "guard dog" material.

    (4) What is not surprising is that Thai Visa Peanut Gallery, with little or no facts to back them up, has condemned the parents. Perhaps if they had been "nice people" (Read: "White") you could see this for what is is. A tragedy few can compare with. You are a hard-hearted lot indeed, and in that, I am being generous, since it means you might have one.

here is the result of a 10 second Google image search

    https://www.google.c...1ac.IILFXVnfx3w

Most of your factual claims are wrong. A few minutes reading this chart will show : i) dogs attack babies and toddlers with shocking regularity; ii) Labradors are an emotionally unstable breed, and sometimes attack a member of the family - often a child - without warning. This is common knowledge in that dog-mad country, the UK. Please note, this chart is for Fatalities in one country -->

    http://en.wikipedia....e_United_States

your numbers neglect to mention that the Labrador is the most popular dog in America (the country your stats apply to) and has been for at least 10 years.

    http://www.akc.org/reg/dogreg_stats.cfm

though i could not find a a more current stat,

in the year 2000 according to the AKC 172,841 labs were registered as pets and these are only the purebreds.

the nearest contender was around 66,000, the Golden lab.

given their proliferation it should not be surprising that they occur on the list.

    ,

A collected report on Canadian stats from 1982 to 2010

    http://www.dogsbite.org/pdf/dog-attack-deaths-maimings-2010.pdf

labs are certainly present in the numbers, but again there are many more of them out there than any other breed.

we all know animals are unpredictable, dogs and children have to be socialized together, we are not talking about the fault of a single dog, or of the volatility of a breed, we are talking about irresponsible owners and one tragically stupid old lady.

they paid an awful price. so did the dog.
