  1. For absolutely any High End or hard to find Cooking / Kitchen equipment in Bangkok I would always suggest Verasu :

    http://www.verasu.com/

    Patrick

Would never buy from a place whose website has "SHOCK PRICE" written on every item, but never tells you what the price actually is.

The shock is that it's shockingly more expensive than you could ever imagine. You get ripped off on household appliances everywhere in Thailand. Far more expensive than in the West!

but you are not in the west, and for Thailand Verasu is quite reasonable.

certainly the espresso maker on the homepage for 5,990 is a bargain.

  2. Branston Pickle and lots of other BRITISH goodies here...

    http://www.buntersfoodsbkk.com/

    Located in Bangkok at

    Bunter's Foods

    60–62 Soi Chaloem Prakiat 81

    Prawet

    Bangkok

    10250

There is also a map on their website of the location.

At 190 baht a jar it supports the case for the 2.55kg size.

that is cheap, claussen pickles top out at over 600 for a 1.8l jar

  3. Actually I wouldn't agree it's all that serious an accusation it's really pretty common ..... it's not considered my medical people as un unecssary operation it's just considered an alternative, thats safer and more profitable at the same time.

OK accept that....but the OP is also accusing the hospital of paying for "propaganda"..... "There are some blogs, which influenced our choice to give birth at this Samitivej, but I now believe they are propaganda , paid for by this hospital to generate business"

I am trying to understand the motivation for the post....is this in the interests of his wifes health or that he had to pay more for the C-section ?

while his allegations are likely true, and it is a given that the Thai medical profession is C section mad, there is little they can do but apply pressure.

I suspect the OP is annoyed he did not stay his course and insist upon natural childbirth.

  4. While it is an indicator against manual labour, i am told it is a good luck superstition.

If you look at the hands on any given buddah image you will see that the fingers are all essentially the same length.

the fingernail is an effort to extend the length of the pinkie to the length of the other fingers.

  5. There is no "for ever" regarding ants

Ants have been on earth before and will be after men

    Ants are not your enemies

You don't need to kill them, just relocate them by giving them food somewhere else

spoken like someone who has never been bit on the junk.

while your theory is admirable, i would like to point out there is no food in my bathroom, and never has been.

however the ants do return annually.

They seem to be attracted to thee water, and there is no moving that.

  6. She needed advice on purchasing caviar in the supermarket. we got to talking and it turns out she had a good lead on a Rolls Royce. I guess we had a lot in common. I guess I should clarify that she is Thai Chinese. Her family is well connected, generals, police chiefs. As for myself, I am just a humble billionaire farang, all my original hair and a walking tripod. In conclusion, the usual. ju

you also lack originality, somebody has already tried that on, and they did a far better job.

  7. similar...they were in the towel.

I dried myself jump into my clothes and went to speak with my staff.....

Very hard to make a straight face while speaking with people while the ants bite you in the balls....

happened to me on a few occasions.

    painful

  8. Why would someone from Isaan move to Pattaya to work at a Family Mart?

Actually far more common than you might think.

Father / Mother / Brother / Uncle goes to work in factory in Bangkok / Laem Chabang / Ayuthaya / Rayong.

Father / Mother / Brother / Uncle starts making a life for himself that doesn't involve hand-to-mouth agrarian existence, has steady income, can afford pickup / modest house payments etc.

Father / Mother / Brother / Uncle brings offspring / niece / nephew to live with in Bangkok / Laem Chabang / Ayuthaya / Rayong aged 13+

And so on and so forth . . .

You can also substitute factory for something to do with tourism, particularly if the Isaan person is found in the south. Sometimes they just sell somtam or have some other sort of business; a relative of a friend in Isan makes a tidy living simply by loading his pickup truck with various goods and delivering them to Burmese migrant workers at their factory dorms! He says they eat good scoff too, for example the soy milk comes from a pukkaThai-Chinese vendor from Yaowarat, none of that cheap <deleted> that Thais go for, and they won't rest until they've settled the bill unlike Thais . . . quite fascinating, but I digress.

As someone who lives and works as a teacher in Isan I see various scenes related to various permutations of this 'story' every day.

I suppose there might just be something about going far away from home that helps to give people a kick up the backside . . .

i know of a couple issan girls working in a family mart 7 on koh phangan. you go where the work is

  9. I have had Cat EVDO for a number of years. It goes up and down like a yoyo but is pretty dependable and reasonably priced. I have no idea what I will use when they pull the plug but hopefully Cat will have something to replace it by then. Living out in the boonies has benefits for me but a choice if service providers is definitely not one of them

Putting a download limit on the service is fine with me. If people want to download movies, they should have to pay for the bandwidth. I have NEVER downloaded a movie so I doubt that I would ever go over my limit.

    funny i thought i was.

i even pay for a server (seedbox) in europe so i am not torrenting off my own connection.

I easily download 15-20 gig per week, but that would take well less than an hour a day with my 30m connect pegged.

and i apologise, i wrote this bfore i remembered we were talking about CAT and their wireless services, that case is somewhat different, but a ceiling is not unreasonable, if, indeed the network is in danger of being congested.

I must say my CAT on Phangan was pretty dam_n good though. rock solid if not ragingly fast.

ive heard 3g is pretty good round my way down there

  10. Yes I still like clubbing.

Loud repetitive music, associated laser mixed with scantily dressed girls gyrating their ass against your body makes for great foreplay.

It definately beats drinking at one of those street bars at four in the morning.

why not just skip the foreplay and dive right into the bush? why is you old guys like foreplay? i like <deleted>.

    How old is old?

I'm 49 myself. How about you?

Anyway some good clubbing music being played on Underground Bangkok Radio at the moment to get you in the mood.

Funny, I know quite a few of the bangkok based guys on there, met a few of the others.

i also have a fair few years before i hit 49, but not as many as id like.

  11. Why kids in business ? Should be banned. Kids should be put in a capsule then opened on arrival. thumbsup.gif

I fly business quite a bit to avoid screaming brats but on flights in the Middle East many misbehaved kids are in business.

Jackpot!!!.......it was a Middle Eastern kid,...now I'm a bit concerned about bringing that issue up, I think there is a cultural thing at play here, these kids appear to get no control imposed on them whasoever.

i agree with you there. i just stepped out to my local 7 to find 2 Arab kids about 4 years old opening all the tipco juices and poking their fingers in.

Parents are conversing at a howl 2 meters away.

I live very near soi 3, so i see them in that 7 plenty, and an odd culture they are.

As for business class, i have to agree i flew it more when the company was paying and before the kiid started travelling with me.

it is true that business class is no longer 'all that' though. If you have high expectations, its got to be first. thank heaven for air miles.

oh, and to be clear, i too am single, i am not nor have i ever been married. the kid is about as much as i can take, though i wouldn't be without her.

  12. im 52 and the wife is 27, together 7 years baby due in sept, very very happy,

so what you think about age diff is shhhite

I only hope you have a good pension scheme set up, when the kid is eighteen you will be looking at retirement. Making no comment on the age difference by the way, that is entirely up to the individuals involved and for me is not a subject for discussion, only the late fatherhood would be a bit of a worry for me. Hope all goes well in September.

I have an aquaintance who is 74 who has fathered two children in the last 3 years. He is living on about 300 baht a day for 5 people, (his wife had a son previously), because his UK pension is so small. This is just utter madness, he will never see his children grow up, nor does he have the means to support them properly and he is the only falang living in a small village. Is he happy? He is miserable as hell but can't see any way out.

I would think he doesnt have that long to suffer

  13. Before one of the forum clowns makes a comment, I know more about American pizza than almost anyone on this forum, and I don't care to explain why. Being from New York doesn't make someone a pizza expert. Many pizza places in New York are good and also lots of places serve crap to their customers, who think it is good. The expression "there is no accounting for taste" applies.

New York style is not my preference. I miss the California style thick crust pizza with lots of toppings, thick (real) stringy mozzarella cheese and proper pizza sauce with spices including oregano, garlic and basil. Mushrooms, green peppers, onions, pepperoni, black olives and Italian sausage toppings make a good combo.

It is really pathetic when Pizza Hut and Pizza company are contenders when discussing good pizza in Thailand. Pizza Hut isn't very good in the USA, but superior to the Thai version that kinda sucks.

New York Pizza in Pattaya is not that good. It is far, far too salty and the crust is kind of soggy and a little bland. Cheese isn't very good quality and a little short in quantity and taste. Pepperoni and sausage are not very good tasting or "New York" style. Sauce wasn't very tasty. Just ok because this is Thailand and there isn't a really good pizza here.

Ronny's New York Pizza menu in Bangkok looks like anything but a New York Pizza place. Definitely a Thai pizza menu.

Italian sausage and pepperoni in Thailand are really only poor quality wannabes that don't taste like they should.

    well thanks Myke.

Its early doors yet, but you certainly seem to qualify as one of the forum clowns, if not an authority on pizza.

of course, i can say this because I know more about forum clowns than almost anyone, and i dont care to explain why.

I am also an authority on brown shoe laces, asthmatic cats, and gay gerbils, but, again, i dont care to explain why.
