Having a GF throws on the hooks whether we like it or not. I really disagree with this idea to pretend those hooks aren't there and pray for the best.

RidiculousWell you can try staying silent while the dad does his thing on poker night. Surely he'll keep winning right? And if he should take a heavy loss, I'm sure no one will look to you. After all this is Thai society and asking for money creates a loss of face

Avoidance now seems like an inevitable setup for blame later. Best to set the code of conduct from the beginning IMO.

The mother is a money nagger or the father is a chronic gambler. Or the brother likes moto-racing. How do you best approach the girlfriend or the family about this early to both manage expectations correctly and protect her/the family member/your own interests?

I have a feeling it's not an expensive one. What is most popular at the cheap Thai restaurants?

You can do more than beans (pic below of broccoli). I was able to find some kale sprout seeds at Big C. They also had lettuce and a few others.
-
Does anyone buy sprout seeds to grow at home? I'm interested in this as I hear it's not too hard and quite cheap for what you get. I wouldn't know where to buy the seeds in Pattaya though.

The 2 I know of are:
1) 3rd floor of the Avenue. About 140 per movie.
2) 6th floor of Central Festival. About 120/movie (cheaper on some days)
Are there any others around that show English movies?

250 gram 99% tofu blocks are about 23 baht at Big C. There are also 220 gram 40% tofu tubes for 7-10 baht, no writing about the other 60%. These are the white (non-egg) tubes.
Is the rest just water? The nutrition numbers seem pretty similar to the blocks with about 5g protein, 2.5g fat and 2g carbs per 100 grams

I'm trying to strike a balance between good weather and lower than normal tourism. Not in a particular rush since I live in Thailand. What is the best time of year to visit?

I recently changed my diet and just want to check to make sure that I'm not nutrient deficient anywhere. Can those small clinics do the appropriate blood tests, or do I need to shell out more money at a hospital?
I'm in Pattaya by the way.

you're right, I just saw it for 49 baht. Also picked up some pineapple vinegar for 23 baht.

I am surprised this is not more common in Pattaya. I found a little bottle of Japanese brown rice vinegar which was expensive given the quantity. I do not need brown rice vinegar in particular, any rice vinegar will do as long as the price is a bit more in line.
do any of the major chains regularly stock rice vinegar? aren't there any thai brands for this?

Pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, is a way for people who do not have HIV but who are at substantial risk of getting it to prevent HIV infection by taking a pill every day. The pill (brand name Truvada) contains two medicines (tenofovir and emtricitabine) that are used in combination with other medicines to treat HIV. When someone is exposed to HIV through sex or injection drug use, these medicines can work to keep the virus from establishing a permanent infection.
PrEP is a powerful HIV prevention tool and can be combined with condoms and other prevention methods to provide even greater protection than when used alone. But people who use PrEP must commit to taking the drug every day and seeing their health care provider for follow-up every 3 months.

Not a first line defense but as a second line I think a few of us could benefit from this. Anyone know a clinic that offers PrEP?

I went to Friendship supermarket in Pattaya and was surprised to see 72% as the highest number on the tofu packages, and that appeared to be for the silken tofu tubes. Is there anywhere else that has 100% tofu, preferably the firm kind?
I am guessing at what I'm looking at, so just in case I'm wrong, here is a picture of the tofu package:

I've been searching for these miracle noodles at Big C, Tops, and three or four other places. no success finding them yet.
Not all noodles have a nutrition label, and the ones that have them seem to have the standard amount of calories.
Does anyone have a brand or even a picture of the 0 cal noodles to be found here?

Do any stores sell packs of chopped up meats and vegetables, ready to stir fry? This would save me a lot of chopping time.

I'm starting to wonder if the price is really worth it or not. Living on soi buakhao I would only use my motorbike when bringing a girl home. It might just be worth paying the 60 or 80 baht or whatever it costs.
Although based on what you guys said, bike ownership doesn't seem like that much of a hassle.

That same argument could be used against shirataki noodles (incorrectly imo)

IMO syrup is great for making protein bars that are high in dietary fiber and low in net carbs. Examples of foreign brands include Vitafiber and Fiber Yum.
Are there any local brands or Thai sources of IMO Syrup out there yet?
-
This is also called Shirataki rice. Most US brands are low or no calorie.
Has anyone seen it in Thailand?

Reviews say the tracking is not perfect as with the PC headsets, and this creates a bunch of problems. I'll wait

I'm considering an around town bike, 125cc. I hear bikes don't last as long as cars, is that true? Saw a 41,000 km bike posted for 10k on a FB group recently which seems cheap.
Are they also more expensive to work on? In the US they are, Pattaya hopefully is different!

Has anyone found a salt that is pure potassium? Best I've seen in Pattaya is 66%.
