  1. Firstly sorry for the loss of your friend. but I really dont think BHP would have been any worse than charges from any private hospital in uk or the USA .

I was comparing charges with a friend who had a neck tumour removed in the states and his 6 day stay for hospital op tests etc was $180.k. Compared to my stay with BC tests , op 5 night stay approx 250k baht. Now I am 23k baht every chemo treatment x 8. So by the end of my treatment I am likely to be in the region of 400 to 450k baht which is under £10k. £10k to save my life is well worth it. . At those charges you are quoting Im sure everything possible was tried to save your friend and if you google you will see some reports it can cost up to £19k in uk. Would you be complaining if your friend had pulled through.

I know a lot of people slam BPH but the care I have had from the surgeon and the oncologist have been first class. Ok they might be behind on some aspects of aftercare needs with BC but treatment has been first class. If you had been so concerned about what had happenned you should have spoken to the surgeon as a family representive and found out cause of deat and treatment he had received.

Again stress the fact Insurance is a must if you travelling or living in foreign country.

  2. There is a God.....I thought the new system and route was going to be permanent !!!!!!!!

Now where are the legions of concrete mixers and Tar squads to finish off the Thrappaya / Trapaiya / Thrrapayaa. Road.. not sure of spelling or actual pronounciation ...and how do you say Sawng Thaow / Song Tayow / Baht Bus./ pick up with bench seats....?

I knew the 100 hrs of poot pasa Thai classes was money well spent

    :jap:

2nd road has actually been tarmaced now . Not completely finished but miracles might happen and they finish it now.

  3. I was lying in bed one night just out of hospital and the bank phoned me to ask if I was using my card. Obviously i wasnt .They said dont worry but we need to cancel your card as someone is using it just now. They had whacked 25k out that night and 25k the night before.

I had to get out of bed and go and sit in the police station for 2 hours reporting it as the bank would not do anything without a police report. They didnt give a hoot at the bank All the main branch was interest in was getting me to pay 1200 baht for new card which I refused to pay.

How on earth they got my details i will never know . Now I only use the one in Jomtien and the branch in Central Festival with exception off the day I came out of the hospital I used the machine there. So one of them must have been rigged. Now we have a hassle with the bank trying to get the money back.

Now they say they will pay me half as I spoke to someone (who I knew and was nowhere near when i did the transaction) when I was at the machine one day but I have refused so don't know what the outcome will be.

  4. If you are thinking about approaching supermarkets and hotels ,You might have to deal with the head office as things are usually only given the go ahead for sales within them from there. But you might be able to speak to a local manager who will put you in the right direction if he thinks the product is viable.

You would certainly need someone who speaks Thai if you are not fluent . Have breakdown of wholesale and retail cost on a sales plan. Import taxes etc. You should also show sales figures if the goods being sold in different countries. You will need to demonstrate how the product is different to all the rest of the gifts being sold . You should also have some samples which you should be prepared to leave with them. A lot will depend on how different your product is.

Remember this is Thailand and things change from one week to the next here especially with customs and charges unless the product is being made here. I would look into all the costd rules and regulations before planning on spending cash.

  5. I don't know where their nearest office is but I recently exchanged e-mails with them regarding payment of duties on incoming parcels. This was their reply:

"The shipment will be cleared by UPS, we pay the import duty on behalf of customer after that our driver will collect the charge from consignee while shipment is delivered.

If we may be in future assistance, please feel free to contact us.

    Yours Sincerely,

I would have thought from that response that they would deal with any paperwork you might have on your behalf. A previous package delivered to me by them, without any customs duty, was delivered promptly with only the local 7% tax which i paid to the UPS driver on delivery to my door. Might be worth an e-mail to try to sort it out if you can't understand what they say on the telephone.

Thanks for that. These are different numbers than the ones I have. Will give the a try. My main concern is what its showing as taxes I might have to pay.

1 Formal Entry charges 1284 baht

2 Storage charge 82 baht per day

    3 Terminal Charges 192.80 baht

4 Amendment Charge 1214.00 baht in case importer name or other date not the same as airline manifesto

5 Duty will inform after process

    6 Customs fee. 214.00 baht

Never had this problem with anyone else.I need to send back 4 pages of paperwork and a copy of my passport.. As you can see the total on that lot above is a pretty penny. All this hassle . It is a gift from an old pensioner who is my neighbour in the uk and as I am recovering from BC has sent as a treat and would have cost a wee bit to send. I really dont want to just dump it but dont want to pay all the above either.

  7. Can anyone tell me if there is any UPS offices in Pattaya or Jomtien. Someone has sent me a parcel and they wantloads of paperwork filled in plus taxes. Cant get them to understand me on the phone.Thought would popin to an office if there was one available. Though that might not be much better. Had a look on website but just showing 100k away.

  8. The only thing is, that they will only accept cash. No credit cards. So take plenty of cash to cover your purchases.. I've also never noticed any ATM's outside or around the the doors.

I've never spent much time outside. I just go in, get what I want and leave immediately.

ATM's out side the building and Yes they do accept credit cards.....:whistling:

Anytime we have been to Makro It's cash only.

  9. Only been living here a few short months and dont really know all the ins and outs of the town. Unfortunately I now find myself having to go through Chemotheraphy,

As many of you have been here for a period of time maybe you could tell me if there is a shop which sells headwear or.Is there a muslim type store in town which caters for the muslim population. Basically I am looking for something like a fine cotton caps which I know a lot of Muslim ladies wear under there scarves. I know I can get ski caps but they are to heavy in this heat. and not really suitable for sleeping.

I can get them online but a few places will not deliver to Thailand. So it means re route to UK and family sending out. Finding somewhere here that might have something would be good .Might need to go to Bangkok when able to.

    Thanks

  10. Make it yourself.

    sodabangkok

Wow! remember this back in the 60's in UK! Used to be able to get Cola & other flavor concentrates....!

Think the were called Soda Stream! Thought the idea was long gone....!

Seemingly its been updated and back in fashion. I do love lime juice and soda or lemongrass. More refreshing than plain water.

  11. I was reading that the Queen Siriket hospital down in Sattahip has signs stating.................."Foreigners will be charged 50% more"

And that's a hospital funded when built by foreign taxpayers money.

If that is true, that is disgusting. This is why you fight fire with fire, like this:

It's best to have a few different credit cards (not debit cards) for this. ALWAYS pay for large items or items you know are being cheated or double priced on (inflated hospital bills), with one of these cards, Then simply call the bank and do what's called a "CHARGE BACK." The vendor / business will lose the money and you will not have to pay. The Thais lose 100% of the money + a small fee due to the charge back. Screw them right back IF you believe you have been screwed.

Don't abuse one card. Have several and use them sparingly, only having 1 charge back per year on any one card. Call the issuing bank first to learn what their charge back policy is, then abide by their rules and use it to your advantage when you are ripped off or unfairly charged. Also, since you did sign the receipt, the Thais do not know any better so after you sign your name, write under it that you signed against your will. The issuing bank will get a copy of this when they investigate the charge back and it will be the icing on the cake to show you were forced into something you did not want to do. It happens a lot to travelers and the banks know this. Your bank is usually on your side, so long as you do everything within their policy.

Nowhere in the world does another country double the price for Thai people when they come to visit. You do not have to take in up the a** here if you are smart about it. You have consumer rights IF you use a credit card. Use it and let the locals lose for a change.

What you are suggesting is equivalent to theft. If you don't like the system then don't use it! Go back 'home' and use your national health scheme or whatever the system is. You are being scammed or ripped off only if you are not told of the dual pricing system. If you know about it and decide to use it, then pay for it, In my book, theft is worse than the dual pricing caper.

When you come here you know there is no national health system here. Why do you not buy health insurance then you will not have to worry about the cost. All the moans have you seen the cost.!!! Well what you going to do if you have an accident .Refuse treatment because you cant afford it. You know the system you know the costs .You really shouldn't be staying here without it.

Ive only been here 2 months and the other day found a lump. Went straight to the hospital 20k it cost for investigations and biopsy. First results dont look to promising and will need further treatment.ie surgery and chemo. Now if I had no insurance i would have had to pack my bags and leave my hubby here and go back to UK. How many people are wiling to do that.at a time when you need support. As I have insurance no need to worry about the costs.. I just need to save my energy about fighting this not if I can afford the next jag.

  12. There is another, more sinister, side to this. These vendors are trying to make a living selling what people want to buy. If people weren't buying the vendors wouldn't be selling. The people making these movies would still be making them even if people weren't selling and buying them.

It is the nastier side of the human condition.

I have just noticed that there are 172 people viewing this topic and wonder why.

Just like if Pattaya weren't full of Western old whore-mongering perverts, the young ladies of Issan wouldn't be breaking the law, ending up on drugs and disgracing their families.

The nastier side and people of Thailand - Pattaya - we all know what sort of tourist go there, or worse live there.

Im sorry I take offence to that remark. I live in Pattaya because it is the nearest town to my hubby's work. There are loads of respectable people live here. Not everyone is a Western whore -mongering pervert. Yes we have the ladies looking for a pot of gold, if they choose to take drugs thats there stupidity. Nobody elses. If they weren't in Pattaya they would be somewhere else. Yes we have the silly beggers thinking these girls love them for themselves not there money but there are lots of men here who are happily married as well.

Child pornography is on a different level . These girls know what they are doing. They are not stupid. Little kids haven't a clue. They must be scared for life.

Its available everywhere to these scumbags in the know not just here in Thailand and people who are invoved in that business should be castrated sent to prison and the key thrown away.

Sellers here who sell these DVDs on open market here should be run out of town. I cannot believe the Police and the government can allow this to go on. I am ashamed. Something needs to be done about this asap.

  13. There is a Kodak shop on Thepprasit Road approx. 400 meters from Sukhumvit opposite the Outlet Mall and the weekend market.

I've had my passport photo's made there last year and they were perfect. They know exactly how and what; huge posters with photo-guidelines from several embassies are on hand.

Beware: Probably the background must be grey or creme. Take care that you wear contrasting clothes.

Thanks for that. Just up the road from me.
