  1. MOG/ MOGIT, Lam Chabang do it....

I did the 4 modules in 2014 which cost 67k baht (already had HUET done in Singapore).... the certs are still called STCW95 but are ok if done after 2010....

I was the only one on the course so fairly painful even thou i explained to the filipinio instructor that i had done the off-shore survival a few times ( hoping he would skip through it, but he did it very thoroughly :(..)......

the firefighting is pretty intense and I wouldn't recommend to go there with a hangover :/

  2. As said, REAL is probably the best option price wise and quality....... I have an full face INDEX but they only seem to sell one size L which is too big for me....must have had it 5 years or so, keep meaning to upgrade it but one good thing about having an old helmet is you don't have to bother locking it everytime you get off the bike...although scrotes will still cut through the strap on a expensive helmet.

  3. Buy a car instead as when your in the inevitable accident, its better to have metal covering your skin than the other way around.

Also, the cops won't hassle you and Thais and your fellow expats won't laugh at you.

Actually, think its the other way round... zipping along in your scooter through grid locked traffic... friend of mine said it took him 3 hours to get of town during the Fireworks festival few months ago..

I live on the east-side and would say my truck has crossed Sukumvit rd about 3 times in the last 5 years ! (excluding Makro & Tesco)

Anyone living in Pattaya is missing out loads by not utilizing the freedom a scooter brings !...

  4. i'm just back from Soi Bo Khao, seems some of the bars that were not serving are now serving....obviously worth the risk opposed of 2 weekends in row with no sales ?

How come there are elections on again this week ? ...anyway this not selling beer is just completely mad....can someone explain how do the 2 correlate ?

  5. i've just taken out full coverage with Cigna Global Health online for just less than 1000 euros/year (i am 40).. confirmed they cover motorcycle accidents including track days & off-road and cancer cover takes effect straight away.... they also confirmed i could cancel with refund any time as in my line of work, i sometimes get pretty decent medical included in the contract.

Had a look at Bupa.co.th but thought it was messy as there are too many options...especially as they have hospital fees for "accident plan" separate to "medical plan" .

Just wanted some good coverage for a prolonged stay in ICU from an accident or cancer/ coronary treatment which i think the Cigna basic package covers ok...

  6. just wasted half an hour going into town an back ....feel for anyone dealing with this BS if on a short holiday along with protests in Bkk.... retarded springs to mind as i just bought a load of beer in the 7/11 and drinking it on the porch along with my dogs which is probably better than going out anyway thumbsup.gif

  7. The M will have a bigger front brake rotor and possibly a stronger brake?

The M would have slightly lower suspension and maybe stiffer springs?

Basically the bikes are identical aside from the wheels and associated suspension/brake changes.

Mostly off-road with some street "L"

Mostly street with some off-road "M"

not sure about the suspension but that pretty much sums it up !

I did the full inter-changeable L to M conversion and the M is much nicer to ride on the road as it seems to be a better fit of bike (for me anyway) and the street tires also give you a bit more confidence... althou never had a issue with the L tires on the road

Having said that, if i had to choose between the 2, i would have to take the L as i use it mainly for off-road and just use a scooter for around town.

  8. .... not bashing the Russians, they don't know any better.... but taking convoys of quads on private property is going to upset someone.... as said i can go out any time of day and i'll probably bump into some of them... wasn't so bad about a year ago as you would always see a couple of Thai guys front and back keeping things under control but lately i've seen white faces leading the group which i'm assuming are Russian (most likely without work-permits or a driving license whistling.gif ....)

Anyway, thank God they're incapable of riding bikes or it would give everyone a bad name smile.png

  9. Unfortunately, its a epidemic around east pattaya .... mainly convoys of up to at least 15, loaded up with Russian tourists choking up on their own dust.. . lot of the areas are narrow rutted tracks that farmers use and struggle to get around at the best of times, not sure how happy they are to see this lot coming along, making difficult tracks even more impassable ... especially in the rainy season.... i often meet small 4x4s loaded up pineapples or sugarcane and stop up to give them right of way but not sure what happens when 20 quads come along, as some of these track are barely wide enough for one small truck.....same goes for the bigger roads used by large truck carrying loads of sand which are tricky enough to navigate for them, so can't be nice seeing a load of Russian tourist careening towards them especially on an incline or declines, even with the bike and a truck meeting, there is not much useable space on these roads

.wouldn't be so bad if it was one tour company doing a outing a couple times a week but these clowns are literally everywhere at any given day or time!... bah.gif

  10. I was riding past bira a few weeks ago and they had some motard championship meeting going on and looked like good fun. Do you plan to race or just going for a track day. Also any tips on decent off road areas around Pattaya. Cheers.

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

no, just wanted to give it a go with the Motard wheels as i've never done it !

There are loads of place to off-road around Pattaya.... one place to start is go up Siam Country rd, directly across the entry to Marpachan lake there is a dirt road which has a good few options to take once you go up there, ignore the second left as its pretty tricky route... you can also go into the Marpachan entry and there are some trails through the woods and there is a small motor cross track at the other side of the lake....

  11. i recently did the L to M conversion with Honda parts...cost about 25 K with fully interchangeable set ..(disks/bolts/after-market sprockets/tires/tubes)....the M front disk is about 3k more expensive than the L as its floating type opposed to a fixed type.

whilst i've never any complaints with the L on the road, the M is definitely better, bit more confidence with the tires and it feels like a smaller bike as the front is lower.. main reason for changing it, was to get on Bira Go Kart track but its booked out for next week so will put the L wheels back on tomorrow as i plan to do some off-roading ... which is mega fun biggrin.png

  12. Best price i found year and half ago is the Honda shop as you go up Central rd take the small left onto Sukumvit.. I paid 135k all in at the time whereas other dealers varied from 5-15k more expensive....prices may have gone up since ?

They have one in stock at the moment but if you are just doing commuting the M might be a better choice ?... i'm picking up some parts there tomorrow so can check.

  13. latest update on Tonys gym Soi Nernpluwan... not only has he been systematically removing equipment over the last year...the most recent being the entire range of dumbells have been changed out with older rusty ones... if this wasn't bad enough, there are no 25 or 35 LB sizes along with only one set of the other lower sizes... i've been there a few times and even with only 1 or 2 other people in the gym you won't get to use them as a lot of people base their workout around dumb-bells (including me)... also removed is some reclining benches and he has added an EZ curl bar rack but only still only has has one bar...another popular inexpensive piece of equipment.

Also only one bench press there so again if gym is busy this will be use. tbh the place seems to a dumping ground for the crap and usless machines out of his other gyms bah.gif ...

  14. do a search on a guy called Pekky Prostreet on facebook, go into his albums and he has one set up for CRF.. i bought an exhaust from him last year for 6000 baht delivered to Pattaya, he is based in CM so should be good for you.

I just looked and he also does quick-action throttles which i think is a great performance mod so i might get one !... if anyone has any feedback ??

I done a 42/13 mod and this is pretty good compromise for off-road and everyday road riding, and don't need to change the chain.

TBH, i wouldn't go messing about with any ECU mods as your going into higher maintenance straight away...

  15. i got a crf250l (same engine ?) and for about 4500 km have been using 91 gasohol with no probs... i work overseas so would be left sitting for maybe 6 weeks but always starts first time.... i use it mainly for off-road trails and drive it mostly fast as i can so 91 is ok with me as more expensive petrol is not going to solve any 'lack of talent issues i have' rolleyes.gif

on the other hand, i have zx6r & gsxr k7 and wouldn't dream of letting gasohol near them..

Anyway, if you are using it for commuting or fun, i think 91 gasohol is fine.. big difference in price over a year !
