Why be with a woman our age, if we do not need to? Nothing wrong with it, if it works for you.

But It is virtually impossible for a 60 year old man in the US, Canada, the UK, most of Europe, OZ, or NZ, to hook up with a 36 year old woman, unless she is very fat or very ugly, or he is a centi millionaire, or is famous. Period. It just does not happen in this day and age.

Here it is possible. Granted he will likely get with a woman of lesser means, who needs a guy who can provide some financial stability. So what? Who cares? Most women want financial stability anywhere in the world, whether they admit it or not. The difference is here the women are more honest about their financial needs and desires.

Of course I do not disagree that for most it is preferable to be with younger attractive person but again this is just one facet of life. If we spend our whole life ruled by the desire of our lowest energy center well then that basically makes us no different than the puppies we see in public that like to hump a leg ????

That aside & on to the second part about "Here it is possible. Granted he will likely get with a woman of lesser means"

Yes that is also true & should but do not try to compare or explain it as "all want financial stability" Instead in poor countries it is more of a robin hood self sacrifice they make to help family & yes themselves too.

But do not try to paint is as equally beneficial anymore than you falling on hard times take to being with a woman 25+ years your senior because well it provides financial stability for you yes? But of course your more than happy to lay & perform sex acts with this 25+ year older woman...yes?

It is what it is & call a spade a spade ????  You live in a poor country & can buy a youthful sex partner & that is all it is by any name

Dude, no way. In countries like Spain and Portugal you can have a positively lavish retirement on 2 million bucks. Add to that cheaper alcohol and coffee, far better roads and public services, and so on.

Agreed I have seen many nice deals on offer from Spain over recent years

Also if I had my choice to start over I think I would love to have built in Andorra years ago. Beautiful!

It is also a spot that has many living training in the same sport I love

The House committee on religions, arts and cultures asked two well-known monks who controversially had their live streaming via Facebook to cut their humorous content to 30%.

How do you know you live in a Junta controlled dictatorship?

When they start telling monks how much humor they can have

That was due to the particularities of recent Malaysian history. The second home program was being flooded with mainland Chinese, and this started to worry people.

The cause is irrelevant to the thousands who invested in a 2nd Malaysian home program. Who now have the $$$ requirements raised to insane new heights without warming without recourse...Pay or get out period

Covid19 has shown beyond doubt the corruption and discriminatory practices in the Thai healthcare system. Whenever a statement is made about Covid it is always that "every Thai person" will get this or that, not simply every person.  So many reports on here of foreigners getting turned away at vaccination centres because it's for "Thai only".

Yes & this lays waste to many other preconceived notions

I always smiled when foreigners worried about the Bank insurance or dropping to one million baht coverage etc

Perhaps now they realize that if/when a bank collapse happens in Thailand what insurance will be worth to foreigners lining up to get

repaid & where in that loooong line they would be standing

Retiring abroad in different countries is not the same thing as snow birding from your home country. The subject here is retirement in Thailand.

    Double speak

Topic is "Will Thailand continue to be a favorable destination for retirees"

Retiring 6 months in one place & 6 months in the other...which is your home country?

For us both as we own homes in Both

Snow birding is just a term

Many folks are retired in two countries period

That some cannot afford it does not mean it is not retirement

If one can only live in a 3rd world countries/New Industrialized Country full time that is down to their planning/choice

That might work for some people, but it's incredibly unrealistic for many others. Retiring abroad is retiring abroad. That's a description of something else entirely.

Retirement may be a ball & chain for some but not all thanks

Many can & do retire in more than one spot & that is not something else...It is something Better ????

When will people start getting some common sense and arrange for proper insurance?

    Sadly......

When Immigration makes it a condition of extending any visa period.

That is the truth & they (Thailand Government) also know that. Now that they have seen the Covid sweep

does anyone think mandatory insurance isn't coming?

If the properties are a source of income or you intend to move back at some stage I can understand, but I didn't need the income nor did I intend to move back.

    That is the kicker (underlined)

But that aside we never intended to move back either...In fact when leaving years ago I had the house sold then it fell thru & I had no time to resell etc so rented

Over the years the value tripled & the renters paid the mortgage so far down that when we returned we just paid it off

Since then it has again almost doubled so...It has turned out to be one of the best investments + made the return quite easy & inexpensive to live.

In fact even though we live in one of the highest cost of living States we actually live cheaper here than Thailand

But if we move back to Thailand again....I think this time we would again consider selling as we are older & it is worth a good amount

But...that not intending to return to ones country of origin may not always be optional ????

    Good points to consider.

     <snipped to save space>

Living a reasonable healthy life-style might prevent a lot, but it’s no guarantee.

    What I have done...

    <snipped to save space>

I’ve decided to take the risk; I will rather have some outstanding good years in Thailand – which I already have had more than 15 of – and then sign out, instead of having a long run of fairly unhappy years in my home country, especially sitting in my rocking chair and think of all that I missed, because I didn’t dare to take this risk, and now it’s way too late...????

kuhnPer I just would like to say this is one of the best overall posts I have read here in many years

Your thinking is much the same as mine & while at the moment we are back in the US after living in Thailand many years

We are considering moving back not because it is not beautiful & clean here but we just miss Thailand & no we are not party folks

quite athletic healthy types that have a home in the Country bot here & in Thailand

But just something we miss about Thailand + family there (but also here)

Thank You for a great level headed response it helps

  11. Getting old is not easy in any country but yes a country like Thailand or the Philippines even has some

benefits if you can afford them. Like more affordable more pleasant care if your lucky

But yes as you said Health insurance can be sketchy price wise as you age in Thailand

They can & will price you out of their coverage & nothing you can do about it

Yes you can self insure for now but a ongoing problem can weaken your pot quickly

Also after this whole covid mess one thing that was already likely to happen surely will in the

next year or two & that is to make health insurance mandatory in Thailand to renew any visa extension full stop

You can bank on that one

Lastly is this...retiring in any foreign country where citizenship is unlikely possible as in Thailand for most....

the big danger is the moving of the visa extension goal posts

Anyone see what recently happened in Malaysia with the "My Second Home" program?

They quadrupled the requirements to stay

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvEekNSJzdo

So imagine in Thailand it is now 800k in bank to stay on retirement visa...Suddenly it will be 3.2 million next renewal!

Can you hack it? If not what is your plan B? Because many in Malaysia now wonder

We will see soon as many in Thailand are in fact winging it on a small income although they will claim otherwise

This whole covid thing is speeding up things that were coming anyway but the next few years are going to be ....interesting?

  12. This is why I always smile at all the Vegans that come to Thailand & say so much healthy fruits & veggies it is like paradise.

Yet they live in Chiang Mai & such & have never been to a village & watched the farming

Lastly this river of yellow is not the worst of it.

Most villagers have their own shallow well for water which lies only 2-3 meters below the surface

    Guess what seeps into that?

He said this was evidenced by Google Trends; searches showed huge interest especially from prospective Japanese and Chinese buyers.

Wonder if he ever considered that these searches may be from hand wringing owners wishing they never bought condo's in a Junta controlled country?....As they watch prices plummet

Or like the folks who cannot look away from a train wreck?

Lastly could also be folks like us who sold in 2016 when we had enough proof the Junta were idiots that would never leave (willingly)

We often like to look at property prices to see in comparison how much cheaper we could buy back that Chiang Mai Condo we sold in 2016
