  1. Dogs in Thailand are different than Western dogs. They have that natural turf protection with some trained qualities.

Acting like you are throwing a stone works 80% of the time but a club/stick works 100% of the time. If you are a

regular then you could feed them. Try pork chop bones. Eventually they will love to see you comming. They can even remember the sound of your motorbike.

A Thai told me that the reason some people have problems with dogs is: At some time in thier past they ATE dog meat. Even if they did not know....the dog knows.

  2. Water fleas (Daphnia) don't produce sludge or balls of sludge; the sludge is probably a slime mold. Sounds like you need your pipes cleaned :whistling:

Looks like I have multiple problems with the quality of my tap water. The black mud is what this flea is feeding/living in. Somehow a flesh colored worm is inside this also.

The clear sludge may be what is sticking to my eyelashes.

The other residents could care less. About half population are Thai.

I know bleach cuts/cleans this stuff easily. The apartment manager has taken my samples in a drinking water bottle but no water pipe cleaning ever takes place.

    I will move soon.

  3. For months I have endured a black sludge material along with small flesh colored worms and a clear sludge in my tap water. These types of sludge tend to attract and form balls. Anyway I complained several times and finally went to have my own test done etc.

It is "Moina macrocopa" AKA water flea. I was told it is common in Thailand and not harmful to humans. Fish love to eat it I guess. Could not find anything on internet that points to it being harmful in humans.

    Here is a pic...enjoy

  4. I think you're lost, Harry! To get to Soi Buakhao from Walking Street try getting a bahtbus along Pattaya Tai from the traffic lights. Some may turn left into Buakhao but most will carry on towards Sukhumvit. If they carry on, ring the bell and walk up Buakhao or wait for another bahtbus going up Buakhao. Motorbike taxi might be the best option for you though.

No you're missing my point. "If they carry on...", I don't want IF, I want to get the one that WILL go down Buakhao, where do they start from when they are down near WS?

ask the driver before you get on.............simple

I tried, most of them say no or "100 baht", actually never found one going to buakhao.

    HARRY,

Did you try reading my post above....you dont even have a comment......xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  5. Informal baht bus rules;

You can determine if the baht bus will turn down Soi Brokecow by hand gesters. Go up South Pattaya Rd(North of 2nd) about 40 meters and make clear you want a baht bus(wave at bus). When you get the attention of the driver, show him a left turn hand signal(point the direction Brokecow goes). If you start talking to him, he will want full payment for a door to door ride. If he gesters NO with his hands etc, he will drive up South Pattaya Rd as normal. You can expect many drivers to not respond at all. If he shakes his head yes, he will turn down Soi Brokecow, at no extra charge. Should cost B10 each passenger.

If no driver agrees and keeps driving then pay for two LEGS.

  7. I just took a bahtbus to the Dolphin Circle, it stopped like always to the entrance of beach road direction. That was the spot where one of the vehicles hit the tree. Another passenger and myself got off and proceded to pay the driver. He sped off without our payment.

My take is he just discovered as we did that it was the scene of the wreck. He is superstitous and could not hang around to be paid. Maybe he knew too much about driver and #531 bus.

So in the future when I get on a bahtbus and the driver is driving CRAZY, too fast etc. When I get off to pay I will say (531) ha sam nung. To give him something to think about.

    RIP

  8. What everyone seems to have overlooked is that the roundabout is not actually a roundabout. In fact its a death trap. It is not a roundabout as its not possible to go all the way around it. So its not really surprising that many people dont follow proper roundabout rules.

Even though I am from the UK and would have no problem using the roundabout the correct way round, I always have a degree of uncertainty when approaching that junction.

There is no excuse if he was drunk of course but the lesson should be re-design that junction. Nothing will happen of course.

Andy has it right here - the 'roundabout' is actually barricaded off between the two lanes of Pattaya Nua road, so that anyone coming from Naklua Road (as was the pick-em up driver in this case) has only one place to go, and that is eastwards on Nua. To get to the Beach Road, you have to travel several hundred yards up that road and make a U turn back down to the 'roundabout on the westward lane. From there you can get to the Beach Road turnoff.

As it has been implied that this chap was a 'resident' I would guess he probably knew this and was therefore trying to avoid the hassle by going the wrong way. It is after all a very wide piece of roadway, and at 4am any sensible driver would get away with it by creeping very slowly round the outside, past the entrance to the Dusit and then onto Beach Road, while making sure no other traffic was around.

Obviously this idiot didn't do that, and thought he could do it at speed.

RIP to the poor victims, and I hope Mr Giannini learns that it's not OK to kill people while ignoring traffic laws, whether under the influence or not.

EEFOO you are correct about him taking the shortcut etc. I took a ride on a bahtbus to the roundabout. Skid and scrape marks are still there as well as a damaged tree.

  9. I had a US chap with simular problems. US Embassy recommended he call them. So I told him to call the US embassy and they would help him (number included). A few days later he found a way to help himself. That was all he needed was the threat of Embassy involment.

  10. The fireworks was the best. Show was on live TV with music and comentary in Thai. Beach Rd was standing room only with the beach covered in chairs. Metal detectors into the beach area was used. Did not see any alcohol drink on beach.

A good time was had by all. Hats off to the Thai for a job well done.

  11. Beach Rd shut down from Dolphin to Klang as of 6PM. Looks like they could close the rest of Beach. Traffic is already a mess. Lots of walking. Word on the street that there will be a SMALL FIREWORK SHOW TONIGHT, FRIDAY.

The main show tomarrow Sat night. Barges are from Soi 3 to 5. My vantage point might be upper floors of new Central Shopping. At least you got transportation to and from.

    Good Luck ;)

  12. I must say it is disgusting to be hit in the face with spit (extreme case). But in Delhi I had the ultimate. On a busy street I was hit with a wad of red beatlenut juice between my toes. They all spit at the ground and was an accident. A direct hit that took about two hours to dry was the most disgusting event I can remember. No place to clean up.

So there GM top that one. :bah:
