  1. You hear of hail stones every hot season in some village somewhere but they never seem to fall in CM City.  Well until  13:32 on 25 April 2020. These fell close to Chang Phuak Gate. They fell for less than a minute and melted quick because it was a blazing hot day during the hot season. For the odd person wondering how i can remember the date let alone the exact time ( i can't, not even the year!)  the camera records the info.

When the whole covid deal hit I told my wife....If it is a year+ of this I will not be the first to fly.

Reason being these planes are not meant to sit idle in hangars for 1 year +

    I hope I was wrong

The China Eastern aircraft that crashed has never stopped flying since covid began. China minimized disruption by closing the borders. Domestic flights were operating normally the whole time except to a few cities that had short lockdowns.

  3. There are all kinds of handlebar stem types and sizes and if you have a old Japanese bike made for the Japanese domestic market i would not assume its todays common 31.8mm size or the once common but harder to find 25.4mm. There are other uncommon sizes too. Rims come in all kinds of widths, sizes and number of spokes. Its best to post some photos if you dont know exactly what you are looking for.

  4. Go up the mountain to Ban Chang Khian and see the cherry blossoms. It only a occurs for a couple of weeks a year and its happening now. It will be cold early morning or if its cloudy. I have not been this year but you may need your double vaccinated status app/ref numbers to get in? You dont want to go all the way up there and be denied entry.

  5. Chiang Mai may still "open up" on the 1st Nov because very few tourists will be actually be coming. Thai domestic tourists will be put off by the current covid surge and the few foreign tourists that do visit Thailand will head to the beach mostly. I think the 1st Nov reopening will still happen for CM, figures of 70% double jabbed for the local population will convince the authorities to push ahead.

Larvae considered a delicacy. Our neighbor offered 1500 THB to do the same as you had done. Turned them down.

Only down side of them is they eat bees also, but get rid of many pest species.

We never had a problem, but exercised care when around them.

I would get rid of them if they were on my property. If one stings you it will hurt like hell but if for whatever reason you get multiple stings you could die. A couple of years ago a local guide died taking some tourists on a hike around Fang if i remember right. How they ended up getting attacked i dont know. The farangs ran off, the guide died at the spot.

Yes in a positive way as “The money will be a fund to bail out tourism businesses hit by the pandemic. “

The new arrival tax and existing departure tax add 1200 baht to every international Air Asia/Lion Air/Thai Vietjet flight. Cheap tickets to neighbouring countries wont be as cheap. Its not good news for the low cost airlines and the boom in travel they created(pre covid).

    Now Everyone Can Fly.....Less

  8. I also got my first vaccine yesterday morning at Promonada. On arrival it looked busy with queues but everything moved quickly and efficiently. Thank you to the USA for providing the vaccines free of charge even to none USA citizens like me. Good work by the USA volunteers, nurses and medical people. I am unsure of the actual organisations involved but am very thankful for your efforts and the immunisation.

Its over 40's now for Monday 13th. It started off as over 50's. You have seen it changed to over 45's and i just clicked on the ticketing link and its now at over 40's.  There must be plenty of vaccines available and the age cutoff is being lowered and lowered.

Renewing marriage extension in the next few days - just checking on a few issues:

    1) Is Immigration open tomorrow Friday August 13th?

    2) I was told by an IO a few weeks ago that appointments weren't being issued.  Simply to turn up in the morning after getting bank details updated, processing was now quicker than last year and should only take a couple of hours at the most.  Is that realistic?

    3) I have a new(ish) passport which only has two pages with stamps plus the notes and photo page.  Are they insisting on copies of blank pages?

    4) I recall that the map has to be on one of their forms and not just a sheet of paper.  Is that still correct?

    5) Last year we were told that a Kor Ror 2 was valid for two years.  Has anyone tested this out?  I don't want to be turned away for such a trivial item.

If they don't accept your old kor ror 2, somebody posted a while back that the ampur office at City Hall only issue kor ror 2's on Fridays only.

  11. It sounds like a crazy story reading the translation from the thai news. Hiking in the pitch black dark on Doi Suthep, who does that? Who does it naked?!?

The white bridge is about 1km from the Zoo and just after the waterfall. About 20 years ago i was cycling up Doi Suthep and stopped on the bridge to drink some water. This was the afternoon. There were a few Dreams and Waves parked up and young men appearing and disappearing under the bridge and around. They were all clearly gay. I got the impression this was a gay meeting spot. Under the bridge out of sight, the paths following the stream, hidden from the road. That was my guess i didn't go down to investigate and ask questions.  I have cycled up Doi Suthep many times since and its not unusual to see motorbikes parked up near the bridge.

If you read the story again assuming this is a gay pickup place. Two young men under the bridge one of them naked, three other men videoing, watching, it makes more sense. Why the guy ran off (if that is what actually happened) and was found dead needs to be seriously investigated by the Police.

Did you get anything back to say they received it. I submit  form but nothing came back to confirm they got it or not.......

After submitting i think it said i was registered and then gave the option to make a print of the application which i did but i just saved it as a PDF record,  I have no printer.

Whilst i was clicking on that i  got an email from them saying my registration was successful.  So it all worked very smoothly. Could be months and months before they get back with a date for a jab though.

  13. I was out on my bike along the cycle path from Convention Centre to -700 Stadium- HTT last week. I was expecting everyone to be wearing masks but it was maybe 1 out of 20 people.  It was crowded with joggers as the 700 stadium is closed. This was early evening time. HTT itself had very few people. The track outside of HTT was very busy and most people were maskless.

I doubt you would be fined in this area with so many people going maskless but jog around the old city on your own it could be a different story.

  14. Its a common belief in Thailand that bank notes that are torn are useless. You have lost your money. The waitress was probably under that assumption. She thinks she has been given nothing. The fact that you can go to a bank and get it swapped for a new one is not widely known in my experience.
