  1. the process is quite simple, but the cost of the process is impossible, one way flight alone from sydney using Qatar has been quoted at BT 339.885 ($AU 16,990) makes the financial burden far to excessive. Then there is the cost of insurance, quarantine and return flights in a few months time.......thankfully we have a strong family and plenty of support.

I'm also under duel country closure at present, so waiting for both to open up. Next step will be whether I can get back in on visa on arrival in order to re-start my long stay visa process.

Eventually all country's need to be able to manage this problem and open up their countries with caution and controls in place.

I think best bet is to get a 90 day visa to be safe and be prepared for quarantine, with new baby i plan to quarantine on same property just to make sure nothing is carried into our village. Already plan long service leave as soon as i can get a flight

Sorry to hear about that. Will Australia let you leave if Thailand opens up? And what international airlines are flying out of Australia with the country locked down? I'm locked out from seeing my wife since Jan, as others on the forum are, but no children due though. All the best to you in your circumstance.

Under a defence contract so even after the boarders open, still have to wait for government restrictions to be lifted

  4. Great answer and it also settled the mind of my partner as we were both questioninf this time frame as she was given a 3 month visa and 3 months stay in australia

I can promise it is 3 months from the date she gets here. The visa can be read and taken as 2 ways, but it is 100% the date she arrives she will have 3 months to leave. I have been through it and wondered the same then I asked at the airport who got the answer from customs there. So its not from the date the visa was issued and this is for a single entry visa.

  5. yes its April fool day

both you and your wife were mature age when married, it is differant to a 50yo marrying a 18yo which as far as I am concerned, is legal age pedofile.

I hope that someone actually enforces a rule like this as it will reduce mature people like you and your wife from being inadvertantly grouped with the dirty old men.

You should not concider your situation with the refered title.

I am married to a young Thai lady, she is 22 years younger than me, she was 32 when we met. We got married we have two lovely girls, Mary is 4 and Nancy is just 1 and a half. I love them all very much, I have given them my all. My wife gave me everything she ever had as she was being taken into labour, a gold chain that she put around my neck. All I can say is don't stand between love especially ours. I told my wife about this proposal by the Thai government she said she will go to goal first, she was so very angry. So tell me why is it you feel that you should have the god given right to decide her fate. Get a life you ...............OK now you can ban me from TV, Mr Happily Married.rolleyes.gif

Yes. Thailand should bring in this law to prohibit older Farangs and other foreigners from marrying very young women .

I have seen some farangs with young wives who could be their grand daughters!.

Laos and Cambodia have enacted these law: why not Thailand.

  6. How true, It is disgusting that thiese dirty old men go to Thailand to marry the young girl. I think they are closer being a legal age Pedofile.

Everyone here knows they are around.

Exemptions should however be made if the relationship is a long term (known and been in relationship of some form for ????12 months / 2 years)

I think this is directed at the old man and the 18yo and yes, This is Thailand, they can do whatever they want to do to protect their people from the old Farang.

    I hope this is enforced.

  7. I have not been able to get accurate info but there is flooding to the south of surat and there was minor flooding on the connecting road fron surat airport and the Diamond Plasa hotel (the big intersection there near Lotus) You should be ok in most parts of surat but I think better to go north as there will be delays.

Heading south from Surat will only bring you to the flood areas so better to keep clear.

I cant get info on the airport but I assume it is open as there is a connecting bus run to Nakhon. The road out to Donsak is flooded along with many other areas that have minor flooding.

    good luck.

One spare michelin tire and the rest from the photos look to be of an average size, they dont appear to be fat looking at the limited photos.

They dont even have to look at the flights, just look at some of the aussie workforce at the departure area.

in reality they could be looking at the other major asian airlines where all the girls are around the same size and height (not exact but similar), all the men are slim and look to be in good health.

If Thai execs think they have a flight attendant weight problem, they should go on a familiarisation trip around North America and Australia to see airlines with unattractive and overweight staff!

Lets have a photo of the Thai execs----see if they set a good example to the staff. One guess--in general--old fat -unfit individuals-on free flights-and hotel perks-limo's-bonuses---to name a few.

  9. True that Qantas Have better planes that drop, roll loose engines and other parts. True that thai air have crashed a plane or two, but on the aircraft I have flown with Thai, the seats are held firm to the floor, the seats are clean and without food splashed on the backs of the seatsin front and all the pannels fit smooth and of the same colour, there is no tape holding Escape door pannels in place and althought the seats might be the same size, they feel very firm and uncomfortable.

This is supposed to be the better Qantas planes???

True they have not killed a passenger yet..... but with the increasing levels of inflight defects, How long will it be before they loose a plane.

I have been flying with Thai air for a few years now but this year I decided to use Qantas for domestic travel in Australia. The first thing about Business class is that they use similar size seats as they do in Thai economy class, but much older and they even come with food stains on the backs of the seats. I sat in my seat and it rattled in its floor clamps and the seat folded back onto the person behind me with the smallest effort. I shook other seats and they all rattled in the mounting clips. The plane also showed other signs or poor matinence or cleaning with many of the smaller fittings not refitter correctly leavind a raised section on the corners, Even the escape door plastic cover for the handle was repaired with clear gaffa tape, I wish I had my camera.

Mabey I am used to using Thai airways for international travel and domestic in thailand...... mabey they really have reverted back to cattle class on everything.

I think in 10 years when I fly Quaint arse again it will be just a tube with hay on the floor for the passengers. Cost savings and they can fit more passengers if they make them all stand up.

..... I don't understand why people still fly on Qantas coffins.

The fact that Qantas has not had a fatal accident since 16th July 1951 may be a contributory factor.

There will be question marks regarding travelling Qantas, recently the incidents have been quite a few, But their record still stands good,--Now David_dyer Thai flyer, you are sort of saying Qantas is a bit dodgy--Ha, look at the Thai record-and compare, compare the ages of the thai and qantas aeroplanes, Qantas are far ahead on updated -on board-and aircraft. If I had a brain-and I dont have--I would prefer Qantas-----------but I travel, Etihad-Emirates-Eva, think better chance of survival,in general.

  10. well said, a smile can open many doors.

I have had no issues with rude staff or poor quality food and rate the comfort and assistance well above Quaintass and their modern death free service. True they are older planes but I fint the service from sydney - BKK - Surat Thani to be of a better standard and with clean aircraft when compared to Qantas as the Australian National Carrier.

My only issue is the check-in staff at sydney and even though they were fat and frumpy and a little unhelpfull, the thai staff (not the temp staff) were friendly and helpfull but not in good image due to their size. I however will continue to use thai air.

Someone mentioned size and strength required to restrain certain passengers.

In January from BKK to sydney I saw (sitting opposite) a small stewardess calm and settle a sweedish passenger at a exit door that wanted to go for a smoke and started accusing her of harassing him. This was getting of concern to nearby passengers as he was at the exit door. She calmed him then a male from the front of the plane escorted him forward where we did not see him for the rest of the flight.

she did very well dispite her size and I assume thai air train their people to deal with passengers of all situations.

what are the routs that others found to be below standard? Sydney - BKK I have never had an issue with service, quality and politeness.

Poor in flight service by rude staff....many of whom are overweight and frumpy.

Personally I rate the service on Thai International to be quite good. The quality of the food is as good as their Middle Eastern counterparts, and I find their service at a personal level to be better actually. Maybe you should try "please" and "thank you" and smile nicely.

  11. Fat personality is probable the best, many fat people I know have a very good and happy nature.

    but

Fat people should not represent a national airline where image and safety is important and not all but some of my friends that are large, know this and it does not bother them.

The airling did give them plenty of time to meet the size and image restrictions and also placed them into the domestic airlines until they achieve the quota.

fat is unattractive and fat does not correspond to good personality either.

Wow, really? Fat people now have bad personalities too? I'm guessing you must be really fat then, huh?

What i was saying was there is no correlation between fatness and having a good personality.

Jerks come in all sizes, don't they?

  12. Prostitution has been in thailand for ????

The trade in sex as quoted in many places such as

    http://www.sexwork.com/Thailand/traditiions.html

    and

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitution_in_Thailand

You will find this event as the turning point for prostitution in thailand legal or not.

clearly indicate that the sex trade (sex tourism) not Prostitution was introduces when the Amenicans used thailand for RnR

Err No, I dont have to state who and how things happen, they just happen. and for the good of the girls and families.

Err, no. Sex trade was not introduced in Thailand by the Americans in the sixties. And if it is on decline, then please give your information source to that. And tell how you and other heroes (how many?) are shutting down brothels, clubs and pubs here. And where you do it. And as that would be classified as work, I take it you have work permits for it?

  13. I am all for the traditional slim (not skinny) thai stewardess, the boys should also meet the requirements as it is the crew that are responsible for the safety of the passengers and also the first point of contact many paople have with Thai people. Fat is a european problem that is infecting the world.

I have made written input to thai airways with this issue as it is the reputation of the airline and the country that is being brought down (already enough reasons not to use thai air, why have more)

My primary issue to the airline was the staff at the sydney checkin, they used to be beautifull ladies and handsome men, the last time I flew there was a frumpy aussie, a winging pom that could not understand the thai passengers and 3 thai girls that really stress tested their uniforms. This is not the face of thailand. Thai airways have the same right to enforce body size and physical expectations as any other employer with people in the public eye, representing their country as the national carrier.

  14. True.

I have been a member here for some time and still people fail to see that they are not in their own country.

    it is a simple rule.

Respect the rules, customs and traditions of your host.

Very simple but people find it difficult to understand.

It may upset some here but the sex trade that was introduced during Vietnam by the Americans, is on the decline and there are many of us that activly shut down the brothels clubs and pubs.

The majority of comments above show about the same amount of ignorance, when it comes to Thai mores, as the "boobies.

This is NOT your country or a European country. Before you came here you should have done your homework and read up on what is expected of visitors. And using the small percentage of Thais who are in the sex trade is not good form when arguing a point.

As an expat of 6+ years, I find myself ashamed of the way farangs dress, both on the beach and on the streets. Someone should also say something to the hairy men who insist on wearing underwear shirts in public, such as at the mall and in theatres.

All of us should remember our manners while in this great (with exceptions) country.

  16. I will ask someone to go to the beach front for a look and photos, the water has gone now so I dont think there was much of an issue down there. Information is slow to me at the moment as I am currently in Sydney.

We currently live in the US. My wife has beach front land in Tha Sala. I'm curious if the flooding is bad in the beach front areas. Do you know?

My wife's family is in Phatthalung. She finally got in touch with her family yesterday. Her family's house and our small bungalow are both above the flood waters but almost all of the other houses in the village have flooded.
