  1. Those breaking the law don't count. Most who get their visa legitimately would like to see visa cheats stopped, as they, and the agents who organise the bribe, make things much harder and time consuming for them.
  2. Once I smiled for 3 days and the consequences were amazing, everyone looked happy and smiled back. The reason, I had shaken the hand of the Dalai Lama, who smiles all the time. Smiling us infectious. If you don't smile, you have an ego affliction, get it fixed.
  3. Remember there are 13 smiles in Thailand, and each has a name.
  4. Why do you care what other people think of you? How do you know what other people think of you?
  5. Thanks but no thanks, for moral reasons I wouldn't bank with JP Morgan. I get 19% with my Polkadot in a non-custodial wallet.
  6. So where is the negative review? Where is the restaurant?
  7. To get a loan, the parent must act as guarantors.
  8. 1 million, used to be 5 million and 10 before that.
  9. Thanks for sharing. The Chinese Thais will stoop to anything. I could tell you a. Few stories about Chinese Thais, like one telling the bank teller that my ID must be fake. She then said Chinese can become Thai but not farang, with that horrible, racist emphasis on the second syllable.
  10. Don't think I can prove you wrong. He was misquoted by the English gutter press. In my experience in Thailand, it's the Chinese ethnics that hate /fear foreigners, so best hope they are not in power, Taksin and the like.
  11. Not a lot of money for immigration bosses. They make huge money from all the illegal immigrants 20/30k a time. But if you invest it to earn $2,300 a year, you will not be able to spend the invested amount if you die in Thailand. Maybe the govt should copy the US and make retirees invest in Thai companies to get their visa. Currently $500,000 in the US. Where do you get 10 %?
  12. No he doesn't, just the ones who disrespected him and refused to wear a mask.
  13. I was not talking about green card. Can a single Thai retiree get one?
  14. Out of interest, how much is a visa for your country? It's 20,000 baht for a UK 2 year visa. 6,300 baht for short term US visa.
  15. Thailand still has valid concerns about foreigners married to locals buying land. I shouldn't need to point out why. Yes, there is inequality. I got Thai citizenship easier than my wife could get British citizenship. For example, I didn't need to pass any Thai language tests. She would have to be conversant in English and pass a culture test, I think. But I was talking about single retirees in the US, the inequality is gigantic. Show 800k in the bank for a few months v 17 million invested in US companies.
  16. Not at all, separate. I was talking about 1%er biker gangs.
  17. It's a joke. One guy told me he paid an agent in Pattaya, who took him to the bank which had an immigration officer present. Think I'll write to my old pal who was Finance Minister and who helped me get interest from a bank that didn't give interest to foreigners. He caused quite a stir when he shared my photo of a tip box in Khon Kaen immigration on his public Facebook page. Immigration are part of the Royal Thai Police and when they are breaking the law, accepting bribes, intimidating honest foreigners to use agents, etc, the people want to know and stop them. Ever wonder why agents don't have a Web page?
  18. It was 19 years ago that the thresholds were raised, about time since inflation is around 10% per year.
  19. Hardly if this white guy wasn't suspended. Does anyone know if they are closed today? Been waiting for over a day for a deposit.
  20. If you're here already it will be grandfathered. This happened with me in the last big change, from 200k-400k.
  21. The agent doesn't get the bank letter! If no need to attend in Jomtien, surely that is illegal.
