  1. Spouses of Thais can live and work in Thailand, what are you talking about? There are very good reasons why Thailand doesn't allow people with no history of working in Thailand to become citizens and able to buy land.
  2. Some I know pay Immigration Officers 5,000 baht or so, so they don't have to travel to Bangkok to get a letter from their embassy. Ironically, these are the types of guys who complain about corruption. Everyone is corruptible.
  3. If immigrants satisfied requirements, there would be no corruption. Not blaming anyone but stating the facts; it's so easy for people to retire here, which isn't reciprocal. Yet, people still complain.
  4. What will you have invested in? I think you are mixing up 'investing' and 'spending'. If I retire the US, I have to invest money PLUS all my living expenses!
  5. I can think of few reasons - bungee jumping, nice lakes.
  6. In a forum that has become a stage for 'Thai-bashing', It is important to neutralize the negative comments and Colonial attitude represented here. The ironic thing is that many of the Colonials never stop talking about the lack of cultural assimilation by immigrants to their countries. These minority groups are pressured to adapt their new countries attitudes and values, yet the Colonials presumptuously believe the Siamese values are inferior to their own.
  7. Why would I want to become a US citizen lol? 17 million baht is NOT worth a long term US visa. 3 million baht is still a lot and my point is that it should be the same as yanks coming here, who have to invest ZERO. To be frank, the immigration requirements should be stricter in Thailand than the US as it is a much better country, IMHO, no risk of our kids being shot at school, for a start. Not to mention the obese culture.
  8. I understand why you say Aristotle but why the other 2?
  9. End of my **** Why should it be 60 days when your country probably doesn't do it? Some countries, like Russia allow Thais to travel to with no visa, so Thailand helps them. Switzerland?NZ.
  10. Thailand allowed this Scotsman to gain citizenship, vote and buy land. The fact is that is is very hard for my wife(Thai) to get a long term visa to the UK. It is easy for foreigners to get a long term visa in Thailand, especially if retired. Even easier if married to a Thai. Many illegals who don't qualify just pay $500 to buy a fake visa and the authorities do nothing. However, If I want to retire to the USA, I must invest 17 million baht.
  11. I bet they were wearing masks though. I was at market Village in Hua Hin yesterday where many foreign looking people weren't wearing masks. If I don't want to wear a belt, it's only risking my life, if I don't wear a mask, it could hurt many others
  12. Nonsense, they are to save lives.
  13. There is a big problem here with illegal immigrants. There are even agents in Pattaya that help them bypass immigration requirements for £500. As a result, we get undesirables, who have fake year visas.
  14. I enquired if there was any way we could make the process 'easier' and was told no way with the military regime watching them like a hawk.
  15. They're are reasons Thailand doesn't want to allow tourist to come on long visas, take a walk down Soi bukao and you'll see why. If the US and UK extend visas for Thais then we can extend for Brit/yank tourists.
  16. No alien kids, no assets out of country. But I have lots of crypto, I should get that more in order.
  17. Good advice, thanks. Do you know if my daughter(15) has to be with me to get the passport?
  18. I't not a problem renewing her Thai Passport but the big question is will she be allowed on the plane with a nearly expired passport. I asked British Airways and they said she doesn't need a valid passport when entering the UK, but they don't fly from Thailand! What is rdv?
  19. Ah, I didn't know it was so long - thanks. The UK passport expires about 3 days before we fly from the UK. We could change the dates back, but giving less time there. Might be better for peace of mind.
  20. So if you were I, would you go ahead with the flight booking and travel with a new Thai passport and nearly expired UK one? The other option is to go on the Thai passport only with a visa(which should be easy to get) which would save me the worry of not being allowed to leave the UK. I don't want to go in person to the Passport Office, unless they have one in my city.
  21. Do you mean book now for a couple of months time?
