This may well have been discussed here before. Then I missed it. Sorry.
One can overdose on a lot of things with life threatening results.
- Have so far not come accross a situation concerning "overdosing" on Viagra or Cialys.
What would be the worst scenario by "overdosing" those medications?Heaven!

Not at all here in the Pang Mapha Valley. Nearly dustfree, that usually will change in the middle of March (for ~+1 month).

It's the 2.5 that's killing you. Doesn't look that good to me.
8 months of the year is ok. But 4 months of the year you're a 24/7 smoker.

Some of us have been fortunate enough to find an outstanding woman, who is delightful to be around, on a daily basis, always has our back, and is fun, smart, and lovely. For me, that likelihood of finding that back in the US, would be very low. So, that is a big factor for me. The second factor is just the quality of life. Sure, I miss alot of the culture back home. The theatre, independent film (which I can download here with no issues at all, and a super fast 1 gbps fiber optic connection, at under 700 baht per month!), stand up comedy, live jazz, etc. But I have a lovely home that I rent, for about 10% of what I would pay in California, I live very well on an income which is not huge, have access to great health care, at a tiny fraction of what it costs in the US, and do not have to put up with alot of the aggravation that I had to when I lived back there.
It is a very personal choice. I have friends who seem to be dropping like flies. I could be dead next year. You just don't know. I am not extravagant, but I live very, very well. A nice house, a new car every few years, new motorbikes for my gal and I every few years, a great art collection, plenty of good wine in the wine cooler, a new 77" OLED TV, a world class home theatre, plenty of international travel, etc. For me, it is a great lifestyle, that I could only dream of in the US. Well worth the expense and very easy to justify. Life is way too short. I have never been a person of extreme thrift. To each his own.
I used to have more issues than I do now. I worked on my attitude, which was getting in the way of appreciating Thailand for what it is, and was clouding my experience here. Used to stress over stupid stuff, as you can see from some of my past posts. Used to allow the politics to make me angry. Now it is not something I take seriously, just something I comment on, without anger or an emotional investment. Now, I just tend to laugh it off. Spent some real time back in the US recently, and it allowed some clarity and perspective, that I am very grateful for. Now, I just chuckle at most of the nonsense. Water off a duck's back, so to speak.
Smart post. But a very simple question. If there was a law that you had to smoke 20 cigarette a day to stay in Thailand would you stay?
I fear the situation is actually worse than that.

If you put Thailand air in a tank and tried to bribe people in a normal environment to breath it, most would not consider it at any cost..
Yes, I left for 3 months last week.

I would say the best age to move to Thailand would be when one has achieved financial independence.

Yeah I would have moved to CM but the smoke issue nixed it.
To me I the biggest negative for Cambodia is health care.
Yes, feel the same.

But you've alluded to having wealth. So what are you saying? It was ok for you
to make enough money to never have to worry about working again or finances but YouTube shareholders shouldn't?

No fraught, unhappy relationships. No chance of having to pay for offspring that you didn't really want in the first place.
I was pretty much celibate in the last 5 years of my 20 years in Thailand. Maybe to do with my sex drive gradually diminishing?
When I regretfully left Thailand in 2018 I still had a fair amount of money with which to start my new life in the UK. If in those later years I had been screwing-around, I wouldn't have had most of that cash.20 years! How was the transition back to the UK mate? Mind saying the reasons for leaving?

The UK is an extreme example of "Heat or Eat" for a large part of the population. A harbinger for the rest of the "western world".
Actually it's not. That's a great example of how misleading the mainstream news is.

I've never lived in Vientiane (and nor would I want to!). When living in Laos I have always lived in Luang Prabang, (where I am now). If you want to judge the city by its graffiti then I have never seen any graffiti in Luang Prabang.... This is a quiet place (I think they still operate a curfew at night). Most people are in bed by 9pm and up at 6am. It's not for party-goers or mongers.
What long term visa is available? I wasn't aware of any.

They are around. I know a few of them. Most seem to be trust fund babies though. They usually try pass themselves off as being independently successful. Pretending they made it all through investing or running a successful business or whatever, but I can usually see right through that.
Exactly. Guys claiming they are playing the stock market and within 10 seconds it's obvious they are just invested in the market,no way beating it.

Keep it simple.
How much does his life cost in home country?
Use same budget here and you'll get a much higher standard of living, except for the richest few or the poorest few.
Reduce home budget by a 1/3 for same lifestyle as home in a Thai style or increase by a 1/3 and the retiree would feel they were relatively balling it.

I've had personal experience of that with a Thai woman that was willing to go out with me, just as long as we didn't actually walk together in public.
What year was that? I'm literally sat with my girl now in the ministry of education canteen where she works and all her colleagues are exceptionally friendly to us.
I remember when girls in every Asian country feared being seen as a ho just for walking with a foreigner, but in most places those days are long gone.

Of course an impossible task for most but it's always been my hope to not die with unspent wealth.
Though knowing when to draw down and by how much is proving to be a very tricky question.

I have been to many place for long time stays. My first was Thailand. Then Mexico, Then S.A.. All over SE Asia. For the last 16 years. I have finally picked Colombia (for now).
Thailand, easy women.. over the top. But, visas and dealing with immigration is not my cup of tea. Air pollution is extremely bad.
S.A., crime is bad here. Need to be careful especially at night. Women are not easy like in Asia.
I finally chose a country with good air, cheap, and easy to get back home as a US citizen.
I now spend six months in S.A. and 2-3 moths in the US each year, then I try to spend 3 months in a new location each year.
Where in Colombia? Women not easy or difficult? 🤣

Nichada Thani looks nice, but it's way over my budget as a single guy. It's more for people with huge families needing a large house and an attached school. Would look weird living there as a single guy. Nirun is too low budget and gritty Thai street life at your doorstep.
What I need is an exclusive condo or condo development that has large grounds for recreation, shopping, pools, etc so I don't have to go outside the complex all the time, but is still within the city or close to public transportation.
I looked at Meenam Residences on the river in Bangkok as a possibility, but never followed through. At least that was backed by the river so it had some outside area to hang out in only for residents, not just walking out into the street.
Why not find a better country for you?

Or get out in the sunshine and get your vitamin D the natural way. Combine that with a good brisk walk and it's even more beneficial and it's free.
And to answer O/P's question. No I would not pay $191 for a covid shot. I trust my immune system and my general good health to watch my back for me.
Agreed. But he's in Canada at winter time. That's why I suggested the supplement.

In the UK I can afford to live well in a provincial town. Same amount let's me live well in bkk. Is that expat, refugee or migraint? These labels crumble away on close analysis.

I'm surprised poor air quality doesn't bother you who live in Bangkok and Chiang Mai.
Pattaya is 6th. Not much better except the beach is fresh.
"Lampang in Northern Thailand had the worst air pollution of the major cities. Tourist destinations Chiang Mai and Bangkok ranked third and fourth most polluted. Chiang Mai averaged air pollution levels 2.3 times greater than the recommended limit, while Bangkok averaged levels 2 times greater than the limit."
Nice data. Where did you find it? And where's the best places, air quality wise?

The inverse correlation between the sexually provocative way women dress around the world and every countries falling birth rate is quite astounding.
Not causative of course. Just ironic.
