  1. Hi All

Does anyone know if UBC are showing the World Cup? I was told they are showing all the games then I was told they do not have the TV rights to show any of the games, only highlights.

    Does anyone know?

    Thanks

  2. I've just installed UBC - they have an offer of Bt4,500 inst. charge just now, but want Bt9,000 for a second point.

Min. term is a year, I think you'll get World Cup on their "Gold" package (about Bt 1,600/month) but if you get their "Platinum" service (Bt2,155/m) you also get BBC Prime.

We called them one day and they installed the next.

Thanks for that, do you know if I can change packages within the 12 months?

Is BBC Prime worth the extra money?

  3. Hi Everyone

Sorry if this is going over old ground but its been years since I had UBC and trying to find out about it from the UK is proving rather difficult.

I want to watch the World Cup at my mother in laws in Lop Buri. I think i'll have to sign up for a year and thats not a problem but I not sure about installation charges, packages and monthly payments.

    Can anyone help?

    Cheers

  4. A friend of mine is going on holiday to Koh Samui and would like to know....

Do Thai Airways fly from Koh Samui to BK ?

If you fly with Bangkok Airways from Samui to BK can you check your bags in to go all the way to London. International flight with Thai (BK-LHR)?

Is there a walk way from the Domestic terminal to the international terminal?

    Thanks for your help

I was told that passport extensions cost £10 but you say you paid £25 so I phoned the Embassy.

I was told that extensions by post are no longer possible as a new E-Passport would be issued and that my wife would have to go to the Embassy.I was told this by a Thai guy but he obviously couldn't be bothered to answer my questions as he passed me back to the phone menu.

I think it depends who you ask as to what answer you get!!!!

You visited the Embassy and your wife's current passport was stamped with a 5-year extension at a cost of £25 and you weren't given a new E-Passport.Is that correct?

Sorry for the checking but I want to be absolutely sure that extensions are still available before I send off the application forms etc.

    Prn6243,

    Thats right!

I phoned the Hull embassy and was told we had to visit the London embassy to apply for this new e passport as they require fingerprints! He also said they only have one machine there so can only process 18 passports aday!

I then phoned the London Embassy and spoke to a thai lady who said I can post the current passport etc and get a five year extension. I phoned the next day to find out how long it would take and was told the same thing again by a thai lady.

I ended up going in person because was told it would be quicker.

After going to the London Embassy on the 19th Jan 06 and paying £25 postal order (my wife did NOT have her finger prints taken) the lady at the embassy extend my wifes passport for 5 years by stamping the extension on page 2 of her current passport!

I have read that you have to now apply for the new e passport but this is different to what they say at the embassy.

If you can and have time post all the required doc's and that all important £25 postal order to the embassy and see if they return it! takes 2 weeks.

Yes I can confirm my wifes passport has had a 5 year extension in her original passport. On page 2 of the passport. If you've already had a 5 year extension the you will have to renew your passport in person.

I have the strange feeling that not everybody in this thread means the same thing when he writes “renew” or “renewal”, that some mean “extension of validity of the existing passport” while others mean “obtaining a new passport to replace the existing passport”.

    -------------

    Maestro

    To clear things up...

Renew - “obtaining a new passport to replace the existing passport”.

Renewal - “obtaining a new passport to replace the existing passport”.

Extension - “extension of validity of the existing passport”

  6. My wife's Thai passport expires in September.

We are unable to travel to Thailand to renew it.

We live in the Channel Islands, can we renew it by post either in London or Thailand.

I have tried the Thai embassy in London but cannot get through on their phone line .

    Thanks in advance guys.

Bergerac, im in a very similar situation. I spoke to the embassy yesterday and today, she said if my wife has a 5 year passport and she wants to renew it for another 5 years (i.e. stamp the extension on page 2) then you can go in person (allow 5 days for return of passport) Or renew it by post (allow 2 weeks). She said we don't need an appointment for this but you will need.....

    Her Passport

    Her ID Card

    2 Photos

    £25 Postal Order (Not Cheque)

2 copies of her ID card

    Self addressed Envelope

and 2 copies (filled out in Thai) of the application form 'form 4'. The form is 5 pages but you only need the first 2 pages.

I will be at the embassy tomorrow to do my wife's passport so I will post again to let you know how it went.

    CHAINAT 1,

Can you confirm that your wife's passport was extended & not renewed please as lots of other sources say that extensions are no longer given.

    Thanks in advance.

  7. Thanks Chainat,

Please let me know how you get on.

It is great news that they accept renewals by post as it is a major operation for the two of us to get time off work midweek.

    Best Regards,

    Bergerac.

Just got back from the embassy london. Everything went fine and we had all the info they needed.

I would still get it in early to be on the safe side.

  9. I really need some advice, I want to get a large amount of money to the UK from my Kasikorn account.

(i'm in the uk) Does anyone know how much you are allowed to send ? and is it the same for a Thai national ? Will there be any problems ?

I ask because I can't do it over the internet and i'm running out of ideas, so I may have to send my wife over to LOS to send it to the UK. :o

All advice welcome as I need to sort this by the end of the month.

    Thanks

  10. Is it difficult to obtain a british passport for a thai?

There are no catches, if that's what you mean. If you fit the criteria, then you qualify for naturalisation.

There are now two additional components, though. The applicant has to show that they are competent in English at or beyond ESOL entry level 3 and, as Rio said, have knowledge of life in the UK. If an applicant passes an ESOL entry level 3 course combined with Skills for Life, then they don't need to sit the test that Rio mentioned.

So, to answer your question, it will take some effort on the part of a Thai as, generally speaking, they will have to regularly attended a college to get their qualification, but legally speaking, no it's not difficult.

Also bear in mind that the above process refers to naturalisation as a British citizen. Once naturalised, the applicant then has to apply for a passport using the naturalisation certificate as proof of their entitlement to British citizenship.

    Scouse.

    Cheers Scouse

Can they take the ESOL entry level 3 course any time ?

  11. Will they accept correspondence from things like Air Miles, club cards, memberships etc ?

Hi Chainat, i'm in the same boat as you and i am keeping hold of absolutely everything that has the Mrs name on it that links her and shows that she is living at our address. I beleive you can't have too much evidence but i know people who have had not enough.

    Good luck

    MrBoJ

    Thanks for that Mr BoJ

Do you know if you will apply in person or by post yet ? I hear post can take 4 months !

Do you know where the offices are where you can apply ? (Only London ?)

    Cheers

  12. You can either make the application by post or phone up and book an appointment at the nearest regional office. Whichever way you do it, you should do so about 1 month before your wife's 2-year visa expires. The cost is £335 for a postal application and £500 in person.

In order to qualify for indefinite leave, your wife will need to demonstrate that you have been living together for the last 2 years. The best way to do this is to show correspondence that the 2 of you have received at the same address. It doesn't necessarily have to have been sent to you jointly, just to the same address. Handy things to submit are bank statements, NHS cards, driving licences, any letters from a government office etc. You can further substantiate your claims by submitting photos taken during the 2 years and greetings cards you've exchanged. The clerk dealing with the application will expect to see evidence for the entire 2 years, not just from the last few months.

    Scouse.

    Thanks scouser

Do you have to show a certain amount of correspondence or just enough to make them happy?

Will they accept correspondence from things like Air Miles, club cards, memberships etc ?

  14. Hi People

Does anyone know if you can transfer money using online banking from my thai Kasikorn account to my UK account ?

Im currently in the UK so I think online banking maybe my only option, if its possible.

Has anybody done this or does anyone have any other ideas of how to get the money over to here ?

    Thanks for your help
