  1. Do many 'normal' tourists stay out drinking long after midnight?

    Sad trolling fail.

    Nope. Genuine question.

Most normal tourists in Chiang Mai have spent the day walking around temples in the hot sun, or visiting an elephant camp, or hiking around on Doi Suthep, etc etc.

Sure, they go out for a drink, but really, what proportion of them are left standing after midnight? I'm guessing not very many...

Normal tourists are torturing elephants and sponsoring drugged up tigers - I'll take the drinkers

  2. Enjoyed a very nice dinner this evening. Girlfriend and I split a "small" pepperoni pizza. It was more than enough for the two of us. A table next to us had some questions about their meal and a very nice manager speaking fluent English came over and thanked them for pointing something out and immediately took it back to the kitchen. Impressive service. Since it was a Buddha day we just had water.

    Bill came to 208 baht.

  3. 'Absurd Comment'......

You obviously don't have a 16 year old daughter !!

I quite like Papa Rock and the food is pretty good.

I recently took some people aged in there 20s and they couldn't wait to leave.

Musicians aged 50+ singing songs from the 70's doesn't usually appeal to 16 year old girls !!!!

This is just a sample of famous international musicians that have played there in the last few months

    Clem Snide -

    Ned Evett -

    Local Latin Jazz band -

Perhaps its best to find out who is playing before you go - great advice for any LIVE MUSIC VENUE

  4. Your best bet is to send your CV to all of the schools, hope for a last minute teacher cancellation. You can also ask to be a 'substitute' and that will atleast get you on their lists.

How does one get a work permit as a substitute teacher?

How does one get to spend all day making pointless comments?

I have a free bicycle for you to use - get away from the computer

  5. It will take a LOT of LUCK to just show up at the end of summer and get a job at an International School in Chiang Mai.

Search Associates is a long process that should be started a year in advance.

There are so many foreigners 'living' in Chiang Mai now that you will face a great amount of competition.

Prem hires 4-6 months in advance.

Check bilingual schools and jobs ads on website AJARN

Just remember - living in Chiang Mai is amazing - working in Chiang Mai is NOT

  6. The thais have long accepted their "road culture" and now they suddenly expect it to change because they want to ride their bicycles?

The roads are EXTREMELY unsafe - you take your chances with everything you do on the roads

Bicycles add a completely new element into an already dangerous cocktail of suddenly stopping songtaows, inexperienced drivers, reckless motorcycles, crazy vans, sleep deprived bus drivers, red light runners, etc etc etc

The cyclists weren't doing anything wrong but they did choose to ride on a busy Thai road and it led to carnage - until the entire road culture is changed this will continue to happen and people that ride bicycles on the busy roads should expect that the odds are not in their favor

  7. Always had a good time. Good hamburgers (95 baht) and I really like their pizza

They also have cold Tiger draft beer which is nice (65 baht)

  8. Falangs are only dating brown skin Issaan girls anyways so what does it matter

Show me one falang with a white skin Thai girl

Brown skin girls are beautiful but recognize that they are the ones dating farangs
