  1. One suggestion would be that she spends the time taking her son to different sites around Chiang Mai. She could take him to the Zoo, small farm, Genie Cooking School, Aircraft museum, Insect museum, the Aquarium, a few beautiful temples, etc.

It would be a great way to introduce her son to the area and get accustomed to his (potentially) new home.

If she does move here, there are plenty of options for schools but I think she would get the most benefit out of spending the time taking her son to various places and enjoying Chiang Mai together.

  2. If people insist on comparing prices to US/ EU then you should add a pro-rated cost of the flight, hotel and transportation costs while you are in Thailand to the price of the pizzas. You are not in the US or EU so the price there is irrelevant.

I definitely enjoy the Dukes pizza and really enjoy taking friends there for a dinner or two. I have been to Rivermarket twice and am not in a big rush to go back simply because if I want Thai food there are so many great Thai places and if I want farang I will probably consider the Dukes. It still is a very beautiful restaurant though and I wish Dave the absolute best.

  3. Is this the place near the UnIrish pub?

Nah, it's out in the sticks of Sansai.

Have you ever been to Sansai? You continually mention there is nothing there, no bar scene, etc etc

  4. Unless your heart is set on teaching English, I would probably advise to skip the TEFL and CELTA and just do an online Master Education from an accredited US university. With a Masters you could get into an International School and look at wages in Chiang Mai from 45-65K a month. You still would not have a teacher license but it would be a good way to get some experience and make a decent wage.

A TEFL and CELTA path pretty much keeps you in ESL schools which have lower salaries, less holidays, less overall benefits and less job security.

Since your relatively young and looking for a new career path, change the Computer Science degree to a Masters Education and aim for International Schools.

Sorry, but i have to question this advice. The OP has been working in a job that pays lots of money. Don't go into teaching for money. Yes, you can work in international schools, but that means being super busy and super stressed to get the money. Teaching should be something to enjoy, to be a way of life.

The best way to become a useful and motivating teacher is to know how to teach. The celta and delta is the exact path to take for this. A masters by itself is a pretty poor option if one has never taught before. And online? How can one get classroom experience?? If you're going to teach in a classroom, why do your own studies at home all on your own? Good teaching is all about classroom management.

Don't go into teaching for money. Go into it to have job to savour. You can earn good money as an experienced english teacher, but it's much better to focus on gaining experience in a job where fun is the operative word, not stress.

I just offered an alternative route. IS schools in Thailand are not 'super busy and super stressed' - I would venture to say stepping in a classroom full of 50 Thai kids with limited English is a lot more stressful than teaching a specific subject to a class of 10-12 while enjoying 180+ days off during the year.

  6. if you are even paying 300bt a day you should be ashamed of yourselves,..no one deserves to be treated like that. Its nothing; a lot of these people are struggling to pay for 3k a month $h1thole$ accomodation...

happy and proud to say my staff are paid 140bt an hour and minimum 15k bt a month....myself, well I came here to enjoy the fruits of my previous labours, so i have not taken 1bt from business whilst in Thailand.

my vote is to increase it to 500 a day, the current rate for the plebs hanging roadside for labouring jobs

Give them more sheets of brightly colored paper with a promise that their life will get better. Meanwhile 9 new malls are built, the population quadruples, pollution escalates and Burmese workers flood the low paying (black) job market

Those 3K a month places are sure a lot nicer then most of the inner city places I have seen in big cities in the US

  7. I would take the Non Imm Visa from home and come for a few months, then check out Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos. As a young single person with financial security, you might find a surrounding country to be a much better fit and then you can always come to Chiang Mai (and Thailand) for visits.

  8. very broad request

at that age, better to choose by fees and location

all of the real International schools teach in english supported with a small amount of Thai

There are also some good Thai schools with English programmes

Religion is also consideration for a few

Better to narrow your needs based on fees, location, religion, and ratio of english/ thai

Its hard to say one preschool or kindergarten completely outshines another - the parent is still the best teacher at that age

  9. What does this have to do with CM?

I find your title offensive, I find you arrogant and offensive.

If the job is so great do it yourself. Unless you are paying 30k+ a month then don't be bragging how much you pay and how great of a job it is.

You want someone to be fluent in English and have all these skills that you don't posess in yourself and I assume that you are paying them 1/10th of what you would like to earn and expect them to jump up and down in praise of your imperialistic generosity.

There are lazy people here as anywhere. I get so tired of these stupid generalizations.

If you want qualified and diligent workers, you need to take time to find them. As any boss would know finding a good workforce anywhere is a challenge.

Why not blame yourself for not screening during the interview process.

A bad craftsman blames the tools.

    HAHAHAHHAA

  10. The program works great - I did it with 8 other people and we were all thrilled

This thread is about spam, not the effectiveness of his program

I am still surprised about the level of hostility towards a Thai reading program in Thailand but TITv

Yea I was being quite sarcastic - hence the comment "He just lives to devour this chaotic mess of soiled inboxes "

    But GREAT detective work
