I brought a cat here and rent a house. Immigration was very simple but I did extensive research and had all of the paperwork and shot records. I do not let her outside. Thailand is a very different from back home. There are many soi dogs, diseases, traffic, etc so if you do let her out dont expect much.
The Flora House just opened up a brand new building and they allow a cat. It is 9,000 baht and includes a living room/kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and balcony. It is a good place to start while you look for more long term accomodations.
There are many pet stores in town. There is one off of ChangKhlan that serves as both a vet and pet supplies. You can also easily get the Royal Canin or Science Diet brand pet food (the higher quality cat food).
Cat litter is available at all major supermarkets. I bought a big plastic tub and used that as a cat box. I also bought a water station that continually moves the water around to encourage the cat to drink. It is important that they drink alot of water to get used to the new climate.
I never stayed in a condo or apartment but I know of others that have. All of the serviced apartments will not allow pets but I am sure there are plenty of owners renting out condos that would allow a pet.
House hunting can be done a variety of ways - if you go through an agent just tell them you have a cat and they will find places for you. If you look on your own have a Thai friend call the owners and ask if a cat is ok.

That would be interesting - especially if there was room for discussion about areas that the series does not cover
Anything relatively mainstream like Zeitgeist in the "truth movement" will be corrupted to some degree

So you are 100% legal but encourage others not to be because a shady TEFL company takes out a full page ad?
So now www.islandtefl.com is a "shady" company, because they took out an ad,plus several pages of participants experiences, in teaching, in a magazine which appeals to young people wishing to travel and earn some money. Well must be loads of "shady" companies out there, even in CM.
You are very big on accusations Planet X. For the umpteenth time I am not encouraging anyone to do anything illegal I am just trying to point out to you that SOME people, can and do, work in the education system in Thailand and other Asian countries without a degree That is the reality of the situation. How many times do you have to be told by myself and other posters? If you can't accept it you really have a problem.
This thread has over 1200+ views so if you dont think people are reading your comments and feeling encouraged you have a problem
Young people that want to travel and take advantage of the poor Thai educational system at the expense of young Thai children -- thats great

hahahaha - thanks for removing all logic from this discussion
The logic is simple really. Farangs that can't integrate and drive per the established standards, tend to drive in a chaotic and spastic fashion. As this is contrary from the norm and highly unexpected, it tends to catch others off guard and cause accidents. If they would just relax a bit and go with the flow, they would be much better off.
I'm not saying let down your guard completely or stop driving defensively. I'm saying that every time the car in front of you taps his breaks, you don't need to either slam on your breaks and/or swerve across multiple lanes. Learn to anticipate this, stop following so dam_n close, and relax/ stop spazzing out. Its exactly this over-reactive, spastic behavior of other farangs that have led to ALL of my near misses.
And yes, I have taken my own advise and learned to anticipate other farangs driving like retarded crack babies. I tend to give them a wide berth now, when I see them on the road.

So its the farangs that make driving in Thailand dangerous
Ok
I would assume it has more to do with the lack of driver training, rule enforcement, driver courtesy and value of life

Its not my personal standards - its the standards of being a qualified teacher
If someone is naturally a gifted teacher, maybe they should consider investing into the profession and making a career out of it

It would be interesting to compare the overall negative impact missionaries and NGOs have had on native/ local populations to see if it outweighs the positive
