I had something very similar. A pinched nerve at the 5th vertebrae. causing numbness and pain going down my left arm.

A <Network chiropractor< told me he would fix it at about 90 %, since there was damage to a disk. He told me it would come back during stressful events. He was absolutely right.

There are three types of chiropractic approaches that I know, so be careful which one you go to.

Medicine typically just hides the pain, does not solve the problem. I never took any pain killers... When the problem is solved, the pain goes away. How will one know if the problem is gone if the pain is numbed with all sorts of medicine.

An ice pack will beat Voltaren any time....

That goes in the right way

Possibly a good practice to actually know what the underlying medical issue is before saying you know what is best to resolve it.

Yoga did help me with my herniated disc. Yoga can help but a safe course of action to start as part of the PT phase after acute symptoms are identified and treated, right?

You may have great insight but you don’t want to risk sounding like a charlatan.

haha I understand your position. Charlatans are legion  . We see more of them than honest, competent, responsible and sincere people (in medicine too). And you don't know who I am. Medicine and doctors can be really useful and life saving in some cases.  But can't solve everything. So I don't preach about Yoga, i just explain its benefits. I respect those who don't believe in what I say and accept it, but if some others can hear my message, well i'll be happy of it, but I won't be richer or poorer whether i help or not.

To go in details, with what is said, (a pain in the back irradiating to the arm), it  looks like a usual chain of reactions due to local contractures, as the body is a complex unity in which everything is linked. Muscle chains in the back are multiple and really intricated. It is easy for a contracture there to irradiate to the arm (and/or the neck). That happened  several times to me after doing unusual moves ( like  using the wood axe with one hand, which created a vicious contraction under the right scapula that took long time to subside (even after yoga). And another time;.. after a motorbike accident.. In Thailand, I had adhesive capsulitis to the other arm (left shoulder)  that took 6 months of physiotherapist (and specific yoga exercices) then 1 year of daily yoga to disappear (almost) completely. Without yoga, there still would be sequels and limited movement to my shoulder.     Anyway if if I had not done these stupid moves it would not have happened. So prevention is better than yoga (and medicine)  in a sense.   Every case is different. things can improve immediately ( followed by weeks of   autonomous exercices to give the muscles chains the new memory) or need longer time. By the way i won't be available long time in Thailand to give help as I'm there for visiting friends and travelling. I have no business interest in talking these subjects, but I'm doing it because  I have the experience and knowledge, we all on this forum are humans, and it's a place to exchange and propose solution if possible. If they work that's fine, if they don't work, well i'll have tried it and now doubt is lifted...  and I see so many people suffering, whose cases could be solved quite rapidely..  although i concede that nothing is a panacea, but a key point is the patient taking charge of himself , as the' yoga i teach is not a therapy (i'm not doctor), but rather an education. Most exercices are done by the student himself, and for those he can't do alone (cannot move the arm without feeling irradiating pain) , I can help with soft manipulations moves. Does this answer satisfy  you ? ????

  3. i have taught for 26 years to hundreds of people and seen the same cases, also skeptical people who came to me at last resort after relying only on drugs that did nothing but hide the problem with pain hiders.. Now their problem is something of the past.  In this world there is a culture of taking pills instead of removing the origin of the problem. Bad moves, over exertion in sports, lifting heavy weights the wrong way, is often the cause. Quite often, those with these problems were really active sportsmen who put too much strain on their body.  They contracted too much certain muscles which weakened others in return. And that created problems in cascade. The long term taking of pain hiders will weaken the liver and other internal organs. it is not good to rely only on that for years.
If the OP asks a "miracle method", there is none in the short term. Only an assortment of adapted stretchings can help, in the case of a purely muscular or articular strain (not originated by an accident).

The person needs to adjust the daily attitude that led to the problem also. In the case of the sequels an accident , it's another matter that has to be studied case by case.

he can make a radiography or medical assessment. If it is only muscular or articular i can help.  If he doesn't want help and only rely on drugs, up to him.

i can help only if there is a request

OP has already clarified that pain is in the neck/shoulder area radiating down the arm.

Any sort of exercise or manipulation would be very, very unwise at this juncture. He either has a shoulder injury or cervical spine problem in either case impinging on nerve.

Accupuncture is unlikely to help in that case. The pressure on the nerve needs to be relieved.

Gentle cervical traction can be tried if he can get the device. That, ice, assuming whatever position is most comfortable and taking whatevet meds were prescribed (likely NSAID) is as much as he can safely do at this point.

He needs to see an ortho specialist and likely have an MRI to pinpoint cause of the oroblem

    What type of pain.

You say cannot move, a muscular pain, tendons irritation, spinal pains preventing movement, or as many seem to think, pains from kidney stone.

If it is something other than kidney stones, it creates lots of heat in the affected areas.

Apply cold packs to reduce the heat, which should lead to healing by itself.

But most of all, relax, and relax more. Stress is the main cause of back pains other than kidney stones or other such ailments.

    not enough

I had terrible back pain for years, but a chiropractor helped a lot. But now I have acupuncture once a week and that is even better. But I have to go once a week, .

    otherwise the pain comes back

if you have kidney stones. You should go to Pacharat hospital in Petchburi. They have a machine that bombards stone with some kind of rays. It's pretty painless and very successful. I was in hospital a couple of days and it cost about 30,000. Bt. Unless you have insurance Bangkok hua hin hospital will cost you a fortune.

    Short term solution

I tried the McKenzie method with very bad results.

Even some yoga methods are pure bullsh.. . Only competent teacher  with long time experience and real method can help. "Live hidden, live happy " My method is  known only by my students and my teacher's students,  my local yoga teacher who created his own method that is unique, a synthesis of the main traditional methods of yoga with a personal "touch". Much better than many known methods.   Works perfectly for many people with back pain (and many other problems).

  10. Hi if your pain is not kidney related but "just" back pain i can help with specific yoga techniques.. Believe or not.

i have experience. Requires to know more about your "back"ground and your physical activities (that lead to this). Nothing has no reasons.

Pathetically , people have nothing else to cling to than  painkillers. Not  treating the reason of the problem is like spraying paint on a rusty metal.   msg in pv.  I'll be in Thailand from Songkran onward

  11.  I wrote earlier that the "advice needed " was mistakingly added by the admin when posting my article on front page.

Why i decided to quit : Sin Sod--> i agreed for the 500.000 thb. She added 200.000 for her mortgage (car). so total 700.000. Plus the jewellery (that we could sell back later i concede). Plus sending 7000 thb a month to the aunt once back to France together. As if sin sod is not enough ! Aunt doesn't need the money. She is single and was never married and works also as a nurse. Plus, she doesn't like me (The first time I met with the family i wore a very cheap watch on purpose As they judge by the appearance. The aunt categorized me as a cheap Charlie. I'm happy she did. She is a cheap soul herself).  And i needed the money more than the aunt  to raise our potential family ( the girl was 27yo  , nurse, so potentially  kind of mature and responsible). Also my ex future  wife pressed  me to buy the land for the house pretty soon, after our marriage,  "before prices rocket up", then build the house 5 years later on it. She showed me the map of the kind of house she dreamed of : 3 bathrooms, 5 bedrooms. Western architect design style. I learned also that the aunt was supposed to come and live with us ! what a     pathetic future scenario. I willl say that the girl is not the "poor lass" that Ctkong is talking about.   I was very good with her and respected her.  Which was not always the case in return but i won't enter into details here so please don't ask.

She has her focus on her goals. But her flaw is that she forgot the daily life aspect and was obsessed with her goal. She talked a lot about the marriage details 1 year in advance, about what to buy, etc etc..  the ceremony was her obsession. hey girl calm down, the future is being built right now. Every day small respect mark and aspects of relationship is what cements a long and strong relationship !!

In a few words i would pay sin sod "to take the girl away", but  the girl comes back to her family 5 years later with a new house with free lodging for the parasite aunt, the husband confined to the pool.. Sorry i didn't buy that.

You kinda gave the game away there. All gold in Thailand is 23 carat, particularly if it's being used as sin sot.

No Thai woman would ask for "18 carat". Either your girlfriend's not Thai or you are spinning us a story.

I don't know anything about gold, sorry.  but she asked for quality gold vs low , and months after that,  in order to write this article and illustrate it, i  looked on internet for reference on gold qualities on a french website. as i didn't remember the exact quality measurements categories in thailand,  she wanted good quality gold that's all.

They have no shame at demanding money for the services of the girl they raised from childhood...there is also no gratitude for those foolish enough to fall for this form of scam.

Don't give me that tradition and culture crap...it is a family shakedown and you have been taken...

No shame and no gratitude. Right word. Alas... This habit in ingrained deep in the inconscious. Her gaze was empty when i tried  to e'xplain to her so basic commonsense things , like : "If i am good it's not because i am weak (which she thought), if i don't expect anything in return for everything i give doesn't mean i'm not a believer of the principle of reciprocity. (i put it in more simple words for her of course)

Since she does not qualify for a VOA or visa exempt entry the airline was correct since you did not have a valid visa for entry.

Apparently she was not aware that her visa for here only allowed one entry.

Her only option is to try and apply for a tourist or transit visa at the embassy in Singapore but Senegal does appear on their list of countries that require residency in Singapore to apply for visas. See: http://www.thaiembassy.sg/visa-matters-/-consular/instructions-for-visa-application

Since there are extenuating circumstance they might issue her a transit visa if she has ticket out of the country within 30 days.

Thx for your advice. Really appreciated.

It seems she received a single entry tourist visa for Thailand, receiving a 60-day permission to stay, then left to fly to Singapore ending her permission to stay. What she should have done was purchase a re-entry permit to keep her permission to stay in Thailand intact when she left and returned to Thailand. The airline properly denied her boarding because she would not have been allowed to enter Thailand, having no valid visa.

Even with her French residence, I think she is in a very difficult situation. Usually, as a Senegal national with French residence, she cannot get a fresh tourist visa at most Thai consulates. I think her best approach is to try phoning nearby consulates, explaining the situation, to see if any will issue her a visa under the prevailing circumstances. I doubt the Thai Embassy in Singapore will help, but it is worth asking. There is a slightly better chance with the Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. There may be no alternative but to return to France.

Thanks for the advice. I transmit that to my friend
