  1. Hard to comment since we really don't know what happened other than the victim is dead. Sad just the same. I think the cops may have been hoping to learn more about where it happened as well as why.
  2. Their eyes are bigger than their wallets. I couldn't agree more with BritmanToo!!!
  3. There is NO enforced law in Thailand. It reminds me of the American West.
  4. I'm sure she certainly didn't make it herself.
  5. Going to school doesn't equate to much real learning especially in overcrowded government schools.
  6. Bit suprised that larb's there as that's usually cooked. This is consumed both cooked and raw in Isaan by many people. Beef, pork, chicken, seafood & fresh water snails and other assorted fish are all consumed the same way despite the dangers. My Thai mother in-law died of liver flukes from eating raw snails from the rice fields/klong.
  7. "There's a sucker born every minute" P.T. Barnum
  8. Just more talk and little action. Typical Thai trash disposal can be viewed along nearly any roadside.
  9. Hmmm seems to me the word volunteer means do the work without any compensation. "Volunteering is a voluntary act of an individual or group freely giving time and labor for community service. Many volunteers are specifically trained in the areas they work, such as medicine, education, or emergency rescue. Others serve on an as-needed basis, such as in response to a natural disaster. Wikipe" "... a person who does something, especially helping other people, willingly and without being forced or paid to do it: Cambridge Dictionary" ex."The health clinic is relying on volunteers to run the office and answer the phones."
  10. What a joke. " the court determined that the plaintiffs’ basis for filing the lawsuit, which was done out of retaliation for the Bengal tigers eating their cattle and to protect their property, was incorrect. .." Maybe someone out there can explain this because my English is just not that good. Maybe I need to try Tenglish. Let's see now who are they talking about the defendants or the plaintiffs?
  11. Big eyes small wallets with zero common sense. I would be willing to bet that the majority are government workers/teachers/nurses who don't know how to manage their money.
  12. Eyes bigger than their wallet. Thais love to show off how wealthy they are most all based on borrowed money.
  13. Granted traffic in both Hanoi & Ho Chi Minh City is quite hectic. However, I cycled (bicycle) to both and found them quite easy to get around. Taxis are readily available and ALL use a meter. Certainly what has slowed Vietnam down somewhat is their long history of war with foreign occupiers (WWII Japan, French Occupation & American War). I've cycled by bicycle to Vietnam from my home in Udon Thani many times and have never regretted the time spent there. The one area that Thailand has in it's favor is the visa on arrival program for tourists entering the country. Vietnam is more bureaucratic in this regard. It's easy to obtain a 30, 45, 60 day visa for Vietnam by visiting one of their many consulates in Thailand and the surrounding countries. I usually obtain mine from their consulate in Khon Kaen or after crossing into Laos at Savannakhet.
  14. I'm with you Barry. I have no idea where Khao San Rd is and really don't give a sh*t. I've lived in Thailand continuously since 2005 and try to avoid Bkk as much as possible as it's nothing but a crowded polluted filthy city.
  15. "What absolute hogwash, I know of 6 lecturers in my department that used their Rajabhat degree to then study at non-Rajabhat universitys, both Masters and PhD" I would certainly like to know just which Thai university accepted their credits because it's my understanding that the credits are not transferable. This is from several Rajabhat professors with creditable Phd degrees.
  16. Rajabhat was originally a teachers college turned into some sort of quasi university. I recall being invited to teach Business English to a class at Rajabhat Udon Thani only to quickly learn that I would be teaching basic English instead. It is so poorly regarded by the Thai education community that none of the credits earned there are accepted by any other truly accredited institution in Thailand.
  17. I suspect it will not be difficult to ID just who Landy or Randy as he apparently owns a bar.
  18. "Peace is easy! It´s Thai territory. Just throw in the military and seize all illegal weapons, and shoot all insurgents on the spot." It just isn't that easy. The Thai army & police have been down there for decades trying to keep the peace. I believe the problem really lies with the Muslims who are unwilling to live in peace with their Buddhist brothers & sisters. Their idea is that conservative Muslims only are to live in any particular village. The same problems exist in many other countries around the world. I've cycled (bicycle) through both Malaysian coasts all the way to Singapore. The west coast is cosmopolitan with a mix of numerous cultures all living in harmony. The east coast is completely different especially when approaching the Thai border where it turns very conservative Muslim. There are several enclaves along the east coast which are cosmopolitan (Kula Terengganu, Dungun, Kula Besut & Kuantan) as best I can recall. the difference between both coasts are dramatic to say the least.
  19. Not sure just where you're referring to regarding armed uniformed police inside gold shops. I live in Udon Thani and have never seen an armed uniformed cop inside a gold shop here in Udon or anywhere in Thailand. However, I have seen unarmed private security personnel from time to time in the gold shops in the city as well as the Lotus Extra which has a couple of gold shops.
  20. The government here in Udon Thani has been on a quest to remove all vestiges of cycling lanes. The effort has been going on for some time now as the cycling lanes were put in place several years ago have been slowing becoming useless through a total lack of upkeep and deliberate removal. It's apparent that the city is not only unfriendly towards cyclists but also pedestrians as absolutely NOTHING has been done to improve the safety of established "zebra " crossings.
  21. 55555555555 the bib can't see the forest for the trees.???? I forgot that Pattaya is a family vacation spot.
  22. "They are not even in uniform, what is the problem, Thais having a little party at their work place once a month is nothing new. The problem is that it's inside a police station. No uniforms visible? They do it all the time especially when they go out for lunch. They take off the uniform shirt so local people will not realize they are police. I've seen the same thing by government workers and teachers.
  23. The entire fiasco is another prime example of non thinking politicians/government. It's a total joke. 555 LOL 555
