With so much chatter on this forum about agents and how to get round the 800k seasoning is it any surprise that the authorities want to clamp down. You've only yourselves to blame

Want about if there is more than 1.6 m Balt

I'm fairly sure the big embassies would want to continue if they could as these affidavits must be a big "earner" for them.
Say they do 5 a day, 25 a week at 1800 baht each time that equates to almost 200,000 baht a month. More than enough to pay a couple of clerks and a supervisor to complete a fairly routine task. The demands of Thai immigration must be too onerous to continue.

You don't, currently, need to do anything if living in Bangkok. CW do not fully enforce the reporting laws.
Grateful thanks

I admit to being confused so can someone clarify for me. I own my condo in BKK, don’t have a yellow book, I’m retired here with all the necessary paperwork, do my 90 day reports on time.
i go to the UK 2 or 3 times a year but have never reported my return to anyone, anytime. Should I be doing something or does the TM6 showing my address when I re-enter Thailand suffice? Thanks

Fantastic service from TOT Sakon Nakhon. Internet crashed last night (router failure) at 6.00 pm. Reported to TOT and an engineer arrived at 9.30 am today to fix it. Considering we are 75 kms from Sakon Nakhon and in the middle of nowhere and it’s Sunday I find that truly amazing. Oh and by the way TOT supply fiber optic cable to our place and we get 50 mbs cheaper than in Bangkok. Well done TOT

Thanks all. Yes the problem seems to be via YouTube.
IPTV is ok.
Will try linking direct to Sky News website
-
This morning Sky News seems blacked out - the error message says 'uploader not accessible in your country'
Anyone else having this problem or know what's going on?

Why do so many people get so worked up about the words ' retirement visa' ? 'Extension to stay' is of course the correct expression but (almost) everyone I know refers to their 'retirement visa' . Why can't the picky posters on TV just get on with answering other posters questions rather than pointing the wrong use of words - which are in very common usage?

A friend of mine is visiting from the UK next week. He "smokes" e-cigarettes which I've read are banned in Thailand. However, I have seen people "smoking" them here and I'm wondering how the law is being interpreted.
For example is it illegal to sell or to buy them here ?
Is it illegal to "smoke" them here if brought in from outside Thailand for personal use only ?
Personal experience or intimate knowledge of the subject really appreciated.

In a perverse way having closer links to China will encourage the West, most notably US, to up their interest and involvement too. One of the last things the Americans, in particular, is other countries getting closer to China.

Thanks. Sound advice

Thanks all.
Sounds like the laminate has to come up.

I've just moved into a new (to me) condo which has laminate flooring throughout. I'd like to lay some ceramic tiles in the kitchen area but don't really want the hassle of taking up the old laminate flooring.
My questions therefore:
Can it be done?
if so, what do I need to do to prepare the laminate flooring to accept the ceramic tiles? Sanding, bonding etc
What adhesive will best suit the job?
Other watch outs?
Thanks in advance

Sorry. My earlier reply a bit garbled. I got the number you gave me earlier today but each time I rang it I got " number not recognized ". So thanks for your help but something's wrong somewhere.

Acquiring PR with skant Thai language skills

I've lived in Thailand for 10 years now, own my condo and am married to a Thai. I can't apply for PR as my stay here is based on retirement. On the face of it this seems unfair particularly as I've no intention of leaving Thailand.
Has there ever been a petition for this rule to change?
Would people be interested in supporting such a petition?
