what bothers me about this missing girl is that the authorities are trying to say she was mentally vulnerable in some way and even if she was what (deleted) difference does it make, I wonder if her parents know exactly what is being said about her in the press, people do not just disappear ….. except in Thailand it seems.

We are still waiting for another Russian girl to turn up that went missing on Koh Tao - oh she had a diving accident ……………………………… I would put money on it she is buried in a deep hole somewhere on Koh Tao and the hole was dug with a hoe...……………..people don't just vanish like that without a trace

and I will add this, not all missing or abused are reported IMO, there is stuff goes on in that region of Thailand that goes unreported

Some guys playing a guitar on the beach did not beat Hannah Witheridge to a pulp - that was all on a level of evil revenge and hate, yes I'll put my guitar down and cave this young girls head in, sorry but any criminal profiler or homicide investigator knows exactly what an attack like that means, it was personal...…………………...and yes not specifically the subject of this topic but similar

    I hope she turns up

conspiracy ? the fact is people are dead raped or missing on Koh Tao.....that is a fact

It seems that you don't live here, I do, and I agree with a lot of your posts.

Thailand Laws are applicable in Thailand - not UK, UN, USA, anywhere.

Nothing any bunch of Expats say on a Forum is going to change that.

You would be far better off trying to adapt to the situation as it is here.

Andy knew what he was doing and did it anyway - the wrong way - on purpose.

He has achieved his 'martyrdom' as a 'glorious human rights activist'.

Spare me. I would now say 'go home Andy' - but he already has.

Maybe some posters should too -  seeing they dislike the Laws here so much.

Bravo, same for the idiot I've quoted.

I drive a car here and feel quite safe.

    Have all the insurance needed.

I can ride a bike but choose not to do.

Yes you need your wits about you.

But I find it not too hard to do.

The major issue is that many people have the minimum level of experience in bike proficiency.

    Originating from childhood.

No license, no insurance, no learner licence, no probationary licence.

Straight in, on their bike, no helmet, no lights, no knowledge of the road laws, minimal enforcement by the police, except for the tea money.

    (monthly wage top up).

Think they are bullet proof and no one else is on the road.

Will not stop for red lights or pedestrian crossings.

Ride multiple on a bike, phone in hand and single handed.

Many have illegal attachments or street vendor stalls attached to the bike.

More than 80 die every day.

I did all my licences the right way and even in Thailand I was police checked, medical check, DLT tested.

If you are proficient and feel you want to drive here, make sure you have insurance.

That you have travel insurance for bikes and other vehicles in this country.

You rarely see a car accident.

Bikes are the unknown factor, they will overtake you on the left, right or wrong side of the road.

They will drive on the pavements if it's a quicker way to get from A to B.

They will U turn in front of you.

They will have an accident with another Thai and walk away.

Have an accident with a farang or tourist and will roll over and milk it for all they can.

Thai regulations say the ownus is on the person renting the bike to have a licence and insurance.

Not the person who is renting it to you...

    Still feeling lucky?

    Welcome to Thailand..

I agree with your post but as you are posting on a Samui forum I presume you meant 'Welcome to Samui'?

All thats fair comment but lets not deny the Israeli tourist as such is somewhat unpopular here in general,  and has been for the entire fifteen years i've lived here and it has nothing to do with anti semitism,  more due to their often rude abrupt behavior and their tendency to be at the extreme end of frugal.  In short, as a collective, they don't travel well.

Probably the best post I've ever seen on the Samui forum .......

When I used to walk the beach of Patong, I never saw one of these "good guys". Know what I saw?

    - Guys filling the jetski's with petrol spilling it in the water  or on the beach

    - Guys smoking cigarettes and tossing the butts.

    - Guys smoking  dope or drinking

    - Guys threatening and intimidating suckers

    - Guys playing the  gullible stupid foreign girls who  wanted one of these bad boys

    - Guys who are considered scum by respectable Thais.

This is a Samui forum. I'm not really aware of a beach named Patong on Samui, where is it?

I find your posts ill informed and that you post crap, not just a bit, a lot of crap, and you do it lots of times.

And a lot of times, it’s big SUVs that are doing this, and their drivers are clearly lacking driving skills, yet they wouldn’t buy a smaller car...?

Yes, they are former bike riders, with no experience of driving cars. They have a 'big SUV' (this is why they are 'Kings of the Road') on HP which they will take the rest of their life to pay for and yet they live in a 'shack'.

  7. Happens to me a lot as part of the access to my house is a 50m narrow road. If I'm over half way I sit there until they go back to allow me to pass, if I've not got to halfway I reverse and let them through.

A bigger concern on Samui for me is the amount of people driving cars with no concept of the width of the car and hence driving down the middle of the road, most of them expect you to move out of their way! As well as that they brake to a stop when a car is passing the other way.

I agree with you about lack of public transport on Samui, but no doubt the "taxi mafia" are influential in that.

Just today I saw an accident after a guy had been doing wheelies outside Seacon Mall in BKK.  He was probably drunk.  I think that wasn't very smart, but I fully support his right to do wheelies on a soaking wet 3-lane highway at 90kmph whilst drunk.  He is a fine example of a truly liberated person and I respect his country for allowing him that freedom.

Allegedly I'm an intelligent person, but still I'm struggling to understand, you're taking the piss right?

Most people banging on about how bad and dangerous riding is in Pattaya don't ride, often never have so have little experience, just frightened rabbits really trying to pass their fears to everyone else

I do ride, have done for quite a few years, have a full licence and find the roads in Pattaya dangerous and unsafe, just like most roads in Thailand but particularly on Samui (KPG & K Tao) and in Pattaya.

So no, I'm no frightened rabbit, I've ridden around Europe many times and never encountered anything during those tours like the shameful behaviour and conditions that we see in Thailand.

Also this a Samui thread, a minor thing, maybe, but you do start your post with 'Most people banging on about how bad and dangerous riding is in Pattaya'

In all the years that I rode a motorbike on Samui I never so much as skidded so you could well have a point. I flogged it several years ago and haven't ridden one since.

You were lucky and it is no coincidence that you haven't ridden since, you will 'live long and prosper' as a result

Is Samui worse than Pattaya? If so why? Personally i find riding in and around Pattaya fine. Farang are the worse riders, usually tourists with mickey mouse helmets

    Did you Read this?

A sadistic, filthy water-ice-and-powder throwing war, radiating from the bar areas, in which for 9 days drunken mobs of farang and Thai hooligans have legal license to cause maximum injury to whomever they encounter.

Showed your true character with that stupid post

Maybe, my downfall is that I'm completely honest and my post was based on experience. You demonstrated your ignorance though, based on 'riding around Pattaya being fine' as opposed to my opinion and that of say thousands of TVF members and JSixpack  in the link above. As I said 'Who gives a flying <deleted> what you think, what an idiot'

Sorry if I am being dumb....but which 10% don't you agree with?

I wouldn't say I feel 'safer" on a motorbike, but I feel I am less likely to have an accident because it is easier to avoid the idiots (by taking evasive action) whilst driving my bike than driving my car.

The Full Moon Party that feeds Koh Tao isn't Glastonbury and it's time everyone realised it.

I haven't been to either island in years, but the FMP used to be a Koh Phangan feature.

In the interest of accuracy, somewhat lacking in this thread.

You stated that the poster evadgib was wrong, you just didn't understand the message. You are stating the Full Moon Party is on Koh PG which is correct but you misunderstood the post. Tourists often go to Koh Tao before and after the full moon party.... hence the full moon party feeds Koh Tao

People have been saying that on this forum since it started.

Yet Thailand has more tourists every year.

Grumpy expats might not like it - but Thailand is booming. The tourism trade is booming.

Whatever the authorities are doing - might make it less fun for aging sexpats but it's still working to bring in more tourists.

The main tourists are tight-arsed Chinese, Koreans and Russians generally. If you think that is 'working' you are delusional.
